Flash :: Why Are Animations Sometimes Done Using Steps Based On The Amount Of Time That's Passed
Jan 5, 2010
I've noticed that some programmers animate objects based on the difference in time. I am not sure why or even if this is logical. Does anyone know the significance? Below is a snippet of code that explains what I mean:
I have a flash movie on my index page but as the user navigates through the site and then goes back to the home page, I don't want the intro to replay. I have fixed that using shared object so that if it has already played, it skips to the end of the animation...here is my code:
function VisitCheck() { var myLocalSO = sharedobject.getLocal("visitRecord"); if (myLocalSO.data.visited == null) { myLocalSO.data.visited = 1; gotoAndPlay(3); trace("visit 1"); } else { gotoAndPlay(2); trace("visit2"); }} VisitCheck();
Works great, except now, the intro animation on the index page NEVER plays again; I would rather have the cookie expire after the user closes the window or a certain amount of time has passed (say 30 minutes).
I recently got back into animating and I need some help with my latest project. I have a number of different animations that I would like to be played on the inside of a tv, however I would like for these animations to play at certain times. For example, at 9:00 pm (real time) the tv displays the animation of the character sleeping. I'm not sure how to do this, and I'm not sure if I need an internal clock.
I have a bit of Flash experience, did a full featured movie player, other stuff in AS3 and got plenty of programming skills in other languages, BUT now I need to create a multi paged website. Quite easy, a few pages, some animations here and there, nothing fancy, got all the graphics.
But time is short on this one, so I need some advice about good practices (pack everything into one main MC or make separate swfs and load them in, etc.), where to begin, or what kind of book should I grab to make the job pretty.
is it possible in flash that from an xml, a hexadecimal value of a certain color is passed to flash and be displayed as a background or text color.This colors are set by the users and it's just that the colors are passed into flash and i will display it in my movie as a background color or text color?is that possible in flash?if yes, how would i do this? please give me some samples or sites where i could see some samples.If not, is there any workaround for this? -- i'm thinkin by css but that's too troublesome..
how do i make so that when i press a button instead of juz moving from point A to B, it will move from point A to B then C then D then E. and then i will click again and it will go 5 more steps and so on..? because i tried to write it astargetIndex += 5;but obviously it won't work coz instead of going thru 2, 3, 4, 5... it jumps straight from 1 to 5
How would you go about creating a timeline animation for an iPhone or iPad application? I'm looking for something like a timeline animation in Flash. I don't need a technical explanation on how to program it, though.So here are some general questions:
- I read something about UIView for PNG sequences, but aren't these kind of animations resource intensive? And what about filesize? PNG can't be compressed like jpeg.
- What about vector-like animations? These would save a lot of kb's.
- Are there animation frameworks like TweenLite/TweenMax/Tweener/... (some well known frameworks for animations in ActionScript)?
We're currently building a fairly big dynamic website, and I was wondering if there was a way to have an animation that updates and move in real time as there's action on the site. Ex. red bulbs light up each time a user posts something on the forum or whatever. It'd be all related to the mysql database.
And behind the scene what it is asking that you instantiate a class as such: new Source("blooper", new Exp(4), new Erlang(4,6); The problem lies in the fact that you don't know what class you will need to processing, and you will be sent a list of these class definitions with instructions on how they can be linked to each other. I've heard that using a BeanFactoryPostProcessor might be helpful, or a property editor/convertor. However I am at a loss as to how best to use them to solve my problem.
trying to create an animated preloader.how to do a basic bar preloader but what I want is to fill a swirl shape (attached) based on the amount loaded.I can easily enough create the movie clip where the full outline is there and then it fills up but I have no idea how to turn that into a preloaded and have it fill based on the percent loaded. Am I correct in assuming I can't use a mask because of the irregular shape?
I am preparing a presentation DVD... DVD will contain wmv video, user manual and another flash exe file... So DVD interface will contain three elements; user manual, a flash exe file and video.. Flash video window will be short-time video, playing like 5-10 seconds then repeats itself... My question is, how could I accomplish to put video window playing certain amount of time then repeats itself, in main window? I need as3 fla example, which could be so useful for me..
I have a piece of code, and in that function i call to another function that has 3 parameters.now i've decided that i want that last function to be called after a couple of secs, instead of immedietly. I can't simply use a timer, and addEventlistener, because then i cant give parameters.
Because on some connections this can take quite some time, I want a link to appear after a specififc amount of time, say 10 seconds? Kind of like a, "loading too slow? Click here for whatever."
how to accomplish this within this loading code and frame?
I've got a movieclip animation which is added to the stage at the start of the .swf.Its an introduction to the game, and the user is encouraged to click on the movieclip to start the animation.Once the animation is finished I'd like the movieclip to be removed from the stage.Do I need to setup some sort of event handler which listens out if the movieclip has finished then start a function once its finished to remove it from the stage? Which methods look out for movieclips finishing?
When I click a button, it opens a window with buttons in it..My aim is, after an amount of time, I want it to dissappear...I want to accomplish it by setting a counter ...for example... When I click to a button 1
{ when click "button1" jump to "scene1"; set counter=0;

If you press a button within a certain amount of time, you are taken to lets say frame 2, if the time expires, you are taken to frame 3.I have used up all of my "i'm still a newbie at flash", so I'm just gonna tell you the truth and say that I haven't done any AS (or flash for that matter) in quite some time, so I guess I have to get busy and learning actionscript.
I was wondering, how do I display text for like 2 seconds or something, then make it disappear?Another question is, how do I set a timer that prevents a function from running within a time limit (2 seconds again) after it ran? Like if a function is triggered by a Key_DOWN, what would a code be to prevent it from running again until that 2 seconds is up? This question is for a 'reload' in a shooter. Is there any other way to approach this?
I have a movie clip loaded using action script 3 at the start of my animation, I want ito to end at the 120th frame. But I can't use the stop(); command because it will also stop the rest of my animations from the 121st frame onwards. how can I stop the movie clip without stopping the rest of my animations?

Right then I'm sure you guys can sort this out very simply. Basically I have this code that creates duplicate instances of a movie clip and puts them on stage with a few random settings where ever the mouse goes.This is cool but I want the duplicates to disappear after a certain amount of time (2-3 seconds or so) - or disappear when a certain amount of them have been placed on the stage.I have played around with the getTimer() function with no joy but I am not even sure if this is the right thing to use.
var num:Number = 0; _root.onMouseMove=function() { var temp = _root.attachMovie("flower","flower"+num++,_root.ge tNextHighestDepth());
