I'm using Flex's Advanced Datagrid for a project and need inline comments, in a similar style to Excel spreadsheet comments.A little visual indicator should indicate if a field is associated with a comment, and on clicking on the element should open or trigger an action for displaying that particular comment.

View 1 RepliesI'm new to Flex and am having trouble understanding Events. I think Events are what I want to use for my situation. I have 2 components, addUser.mxml and listUsers.mxml. I access these from a ViewStack in my main application. When I load listUsers.mxml it shows a list of current users in a datagrid via a HTTPService call. When I add a user using the form on addUser.mxml I would like the datagrid in listUsers.mxml to refresh when I return to that view to show the new user. I've tried several different things with addEventListener and dispatchEvent but can't seem to get it working. Can someone help me with this logic?

I am running into issues displaying Thai characters in Flex components that make use of the Flash Text Engine (FTE), specifically on Mac OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.Here's a blurb of my compiler font managers in flex-config.xml:

Thai characters render correctly in mx components such as TextField so far. However, FTE components such as TextLine show those crappy-looking boxes as a substitution. My initial guess was that somehow one of the compiler font managers declared in flex-config.xml was not finding the right system font to fallback to for Thai characters. So, I ensured the system font was installed by going to System Preferences > Language and Text > Edit List. Then I changed fontFamily to Arial, Ayuthaya.Still was seeing the boxes of evil.
Next I figured that perhaps the Arial font might be assigning a box for each unicode value corresponding to a Thai character. So it was effectively overriding the Ayuthaya system font. So I changed fontFamily once more to just Ayuthaya and this worked with one issue - Ayuthaya looks inherently different from Arial for non-thai characters.is there a less invasive way to support Thai in FTE components such that the appearance of the text is closer to the Arial font? I would rather not embed a font because I'm constrained on SWF size.

What is not done with this project? It needs an accept friendship button where new friends rerquest was sent. It needs to read any new request from any new friends. it needs a decline button where the new friend request was sent if your does not wish to have this friend. It needs a comment delete button where this username and this comment. set only for the user who posted the comment. so not just any one can delete anyones comment.

I will be creating an animation with a jpeg image as the background. The animation will consist of moving lines.
When I place my curser over the animation box, and have the lines animate. When I place my curser off the aniamtion box, I would like the animation to stop playing.
The curser placement would be the trigger for the animation.
Imagine a projection in a public place with a flash animation running on it, which includes a QRcode, when the QRcode is decoded on a smart phone, it will take you to a url, when you reach the url, you are asked to fill in a web form, after you submit, this triggers an animation in the projection you got the QRcode from.
So the question is, how do I trigger the animation (which could be running from a web page if need be) based on the submission of the form.
Also is it easy to use info submitted in the form in said flash animation, ie " thankyou instert customer name here"

Is it able to create a SWF with for example 800x650px and to define some 'containers' within it for other SWF-files? I want to create a container for navigation at the right and when clicking on a navi element,changing the content of anorher container availalble, perhaps like'headAnimation'.

I've been having some trouble with tweens. Here's a description of my usage:
I have a system where a textbox is the child of a movieclip. When you click the "Next" button, the movieclip fades to 0-alpha and upon completion, the text in the textbox is changed (to the next index in an array) and it tweens back in to 100-alpha. This makes a nice transition through the text.
My issue is that sometimes it doesn't tween back in, only out, leaving the user with an empty box where text should be.
However, I'd asked this question previously with the thought that it was "Timing out". Now, after significant testing I realised that it only happens if I click or select some of the text on the text box. Could it have something to do with this text selection intefering with the changeText function below... (it's the same text box, just the text changes).

So here's what I'm trying to do: When the user clicks on the corner of the browser and resizes the stage, I dont want the Resize actions to occur until the user RELEASES the mouse or until the resize is complete. So, as long as they're dragging the mouse around and resizing nothing would happen, but then as soon as the mouse as released it kicks in. I tried:

I want to be able to link an Action Script event to clicking text within a text box.The only thing I can see is to just create a basic Hyper Link, but not apply any action:I have been messing around for over an hour but just can't see a way to apply actionscript and all the tutorials on the internet seem to target ActionScript 3 or not do exactly what I want.The reason for this is that there is background music to the site and when YouTube is launched, it needs to be muted. I know the code to mute and have done this on custom objects before, but I can't see any way to apply script to a textbox hyperlink.Whilst I would ideally like to do it this way, I am happy to consider any solution resulting in opening a page and muting the site.To be honest, I tried doing a quick switch to AS3, but as there are so many problems that would need addressing, I would rather spend the time converting the site to HTML/Jquery or even Silverlight.

I have reinstelled them with components exchange and apparently they are successfully installed , but once I enter Flash CS4 there are not.

I can easily do this for the script portion, but I end up with a ton of ugly "This property can be used as the source for data binding." messages for each element I declared in Flex. Is there any way to embed a comment into a flex element so that it can be read by ASDoc? I have tried using the standard

notation, but that didn't seem to work.
