Stop MovieClip.prototype.play2 = Function?
Jan 25, 2009
Code: Select allMovieClip.prototype.play2 = function(direction, playback, begin, end, callback, clips) {
var o = this;
playback = (playback == undefined) ? (1000/24) : playback;
[Code].....
I have tried the same commands for onClipEvent (mouseUp) aswell!
Do I need to add something in the MovieClip.prototype.play2 = function???, or what is the correct approach.

The function is called on release of a movieclip. I'm making a drag a drop navigation and there are two content windows .. "h1" and "h3".
I don't think there's anything(much) wrong with my code itself, I'm just having trouble with calling anything within h_ins.onEnterFrame. Is there a fundamental issue that I'm not aware of? Below are all the details if you're interested.

I'm writing a player that switches to videos of different resolutions. I was able to get this to work before by closing the netstream connection and opening a new one with the new file address.I now want to try using the play2() function instead, but after setting the transition variable to "NetstreamPlayTransitions.SWITCH" and the oldStream and streamName properties to the old and new file addresses,respectively, nothing happens. The current stream keeps playing. I know that the file addresses are correct because if play each one individually using the RESUME transition, it works fine.

I have this prototype function:
[AS]
MovieClip.prototype.moveRight = function() {
// when it enters the frame
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
oldx = newx;
// if timelineMC._x less than or equal to howFarRight
if (timeline._x<=howFarRight) {
[Code] .....
Which works great except that it scrolls the whole thing all at once. Is it possible to put some kind of increment in there so that on a key press it only moves a certain amount of pixels?

I found a cool prototype function here in the forums that plays a movieclip backwards:[code]I have the protoype defined on the main timeline of my main file. I call the function on press of a button from an external movieclip after it's loaded into main.When testing it in flash it works beautifully. When I test it online it doesn't work at all. Other code on the button being called at the same time does work (like unloading a movieclip on the main timeline).

I'm trying to create a function that will help me fade in sounds with the help of setInterval. I'm almost there! Here is the code so far:
// Begin
melodyhalf1 = new Sound("melodyhalf1_mc");
melodyhalf1.attachSound("melodyhalf1");
melodyhalf1.start(0, 99);
[Code]....
I placed a comment in the Sound.prototype.fadeIn to test if it was being called, as well as to see if the melodyhalf1 variable (object?) was being passed.
The results are that the fadeIn function *is* being called, but the trace(this) comes back with 'undefined'.

I'm having issues with something wanted to accomplish involving qued amations that i can reuse in various situations throughout an application...
Basically, what I'm trying to get is a prototype or function that will allows for multiple instances on that stage that start at a specific x/y and size, animate to a specific x/y size and end at a specific x/y and size... the x/y and size information is defined for each of the instances in the function.
A good place for this would be with buttons... check the sloppy diagram attached.

In a ActionScript 2 code sample it uses some MovieClip.prototype's functions, as MovieClip.prototype.setModel;I'm trying to write this example using an ActionScrip 3 class, but the MoviewClip.prototype does not exists, where can I get it from? Does it exists in ActionScrip 3?
--update as you are asking, here goes, this code works just fine as an actionscript included on frame1, but I want to make a ActionScript 3 class with this same code:
//package

// public class asteroids extends MovieClip

I built a custom designed checkBox. The movieclip is in the libary and dragged onto the timeline of my .swf. I'm using CS4 & AS3. I'm using procedural AS3 instead of OO AS3.The checkbox movieclip has a child movieclip inside of it so I can apply a drop shadow filter to some of the graphics .When I put an eventlistener on the custom checkbox it works fine but when I try to reference the checkbox movieclip inside the eventlistener function, the event.target.name is referring to the child movieclip (just a graphic with a drop shadow filter).From my reading it looks like the function propogates down to the child movieclip but I don't want it to do that.How do I reference the parent movieclip? or
B. stop the eventlistener from propogating down to the child movieclip?
I tried using stopPropagation(); but it didn't stop the function event.target.name from trickling down to the child movieclip.Here's what AS3 looks like.The trace statement displays "step3_mc.cbEmail_mc.instance25"instead of what I need "step3_mc.cbEmail_mc"
step3_mc.cbEmail_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fnc_cbClick);step3_mc.cbAgree_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fnc_cbClick);
function fnc_cbClick(event:MouseEvent):void {[code]....

I have an org chart that looks like this:
click to see
Anyway, there are 130 little boxes on that graphic, each one a movie clip. Because I want the same thing to happen on rollover of each movie clip I have put the following on my main timeline:
Code:
MovieClip.prototype.scale = function(w,h){
this.onEnterFrame = function(){
this._width = w-(w-this._width)/1.2
[Code]....
*edit* Another small problem - since the movie clips aren't all the same size the code MAKES them all the same size if you roll over them in quick succession. How can I prevent this? Is there a better way of capturing a particular movieclip's starting width and height, double it on rollover, and then returning to that on rollout?

I'm still finding my way around even the simplest things in Actionscript. I have a movieclip named 'leaf9' in which I'm using as a button (which happens to be within another movieclip). I have the following actionscript on the frame which contains 'leaf9':
[AS]
leaf9.onRollOver = function(){
this.gotoAndPlay("rollover");[code].....
What I want is for all the other functions to go away once "shrink" has started to play, so that if the mouse goes over the button again, the clip doesn't start playing "rollover" etc etc. So how do I stop all the other functions from playing once the .onRelease function has started?

// This script is on a seperate layer frame:
// webnav, iden, adv, mult are instances of MCs
btns = [webnav, iden, adv, mult];
MovieClip.prototype.enableBtns = function(btns) {

The buttons disable but just don't enable again when other buttons are clicked.The button instances are on the path: _root.navbtns_mc.

I've tried a couple dozen things to try and stop this movie clip, even down to the bare bones basics and its not working.I have an imported TIFF sequence that i imported onto the stage of a movie clip. Its 73 frames long, i want it to stop on frame 73.So i add the usual stop(); command but it doesn't stop, it keeps looping.On the main layer i put this movieclip in i have an AS layer that also has stop(); and moviclip.stop();But it doesn't stop at all. it just keeps repeating.I put it down to this bare basic setup just to see if i could even stop it. But its not stopping.Layers -> and stuffScene 1Content - movieclipMCActionScript - stop(); movieclipMC.stop();Movieclip - keyframes consisting of image sequence 1-73. frame 73 has stop();

I have some bombs like this :
var sjunkBomb:Array = new Array;
for (var i:int = 0; i < sjunkBombMaxAntal; i++) {
var bomb = new sjunkbomb;[code]....
Each movieclip sjunkBomb contains an animated movieclip. When the bombs reach the bottom I want to stop the inside animation.I guess it's better to stop them so they affect the rest of the game if there are a lot of bombs. I know how to hide them with sjunkBomb[x] .visible = false; but if I want to stop them? sjunkBomb[x].stop(); doesn't work!?

ActionScript Code:
myFunct();
function myFunct()
{
[Code].....
Any way to get this to work without using much more code? This is for a function that checks to see if a user is still logged into a website. I need the check to happen every time the user causes certain functions to run, like create topic, submit new post, etc. I could put the code, which is only a two-liner if/else statement in every function, but it would be nice to just call a single function. But that function would have to be able to cause the function that's calling it to return to get it to cease.

i'm trying to get a movieclip within a movieclip to stop playing when it reaches its last frame. let me describe my problem: it should start playing when the user rolls over the movieclip that is containing it(i'll call this mc1, and the movieclip within it mc2). i've put a stop action in mc2's last frame but it won't stop and plays again and again. one thing i should point out is that there is a variable in mc1 that tells the movie whether it's ok to play the movie in reverse when the user rolls over mc1, if this is false, that means that it plays normally(not in reverse). i'm using "play()" to play mc1 when the user rolls over it and this is where i think the problem is; even though the last frame of mc2 has a stop action, it is somehow told to play again? anyways, this is just a guess, i haven't figured out why or how to fix it. i'm not sure if my explanation was too hard to understand so i'll try to clarify it if anyone wants me to.

I'm using this timer code for my game.
It should play 10 seconds and then go to the next scene.
PHP Code:
function timer(){
seconds=seconds-1;
if (seconds < 0) {
[Code].....
Well that works, but when I click on the play-again-button in the next scene, it won't play for 10 seconds (but less). I think the timer goes on without stopping. How can I stop the timer function when I move to the next scene?
