ActionScript 2.0 :: Auto-Redirect Timer With Mouse Interrupt?
Jan 28, 2009
Does someone know a script to redirect to a different swf from another one after a certain amount of time without action?
The setting is: overview.swf links 1.swf until 13.swf via LoadMovieNum(link, 0). After 5 minutes without click (the applications runs on a touch screen). I'd like to redirect to 1.swf from whereever the user went inthe meantime. It's no big deal putting a script into each of the files.

new to AS3 and starting with an ambitious project for my father in law's website. I don't want anyone to write the code for me, but I was hoping to explain what I'm trying to do and have some more experienced coders drop some keywords, pointers on how they would code it.I want to have a movie clip of a gunsight/scope thingy moving around a map, pausing once in a while. When it pauses, some text will come up that says "Searching...Found" and then a picture of a car will appear for a couple seconds.Now, I can animate all this in the timeline easily. But, here's where I'm getting held up: Across the top of the map, there will be a menu. On each button, when you hover over it, I want the gunsight to stop what it's doing, move to the center of the map and expand to show a picture that is related to the specific menu button. When the mouse rolls off, the animation reverses and the gunsight returns to the original looping animation (either starting over at the beginning or returning to where it was before the roll over).Is this going to be really complicated? Do I need to code the original looping animation to for actionscript to pull the gunsight from where ever it is on the map and smoothly move it to the center, or is there a way to pull it away from it's current location?

Am trying to see if anyone has any links or resources where I can learn to setup a flash video file where it automatically redirects to another URL such as a sales page at the conclusion of the video. I also would like to find out how to have a link/overlay at the end of the video where a viewer can click to go to another URL such as a sales page.
I am not a prgrammer by profession but do work in Flash and I am willing to try this given the right learning resources. Not sure if both or either of these tasks is done in the flash file or in some type of java script on the html page. I have seen this done by this company [URL] but you have to subscribe to their service using their control panel and they limit the number of players you can create.
I have Flash 8, Flash CS3 and Flash CS4 if needed for this project.

Is there some other simple method to redirect mouse/keyboard input from one object to an object behind it. I have used mouseEnabled = false where the object in front is only a UIComponent and it works. However mouseEnabled,mouseChildren=false is not working for an SWFLoader.

I'm building a flash application (actually four of them) that pull a simple RSS feed from a site, display's the contents and gives the user options on what it wants to do with the updates. However, currently the refreshing is manual (e.g. client does it on their own digression). I like making modules / widgets mostly for myself at the moment to learn more. I had previous experience making a C# XMLSocket server for a flash application that ripped information off of windows media player in my home network which ran on my old archos 7 device. I could control my music on my desktop PC from anywhere in my apartment! Pretty cool stuff and it really got me reeled in.
I understand on making flash auto-check for the latest rss items, and could possibly do away with the manual "refresh" button. What I'd love to figure out, is there a way to have flash automatically update displayed contents out of a feed the second the RSS feed updates, or will it only be on a timer? Secondly, let's say I get some new items in my RSS feed, how would one kick back a) the amount of updated items b) the time in which the rss update was caught and c) kick some sort of message back to the user e.g. => "5 new entries, updated x minutes ago". Lastly some sort of caching locally would be awesome to store older xml entries. I have many questions to understand this fully but this is the ice breaker. Essentially this is my holy grail of questions on things I'd like to do with my flash project. My last step in this understanding process will be getting this into adobe AIR and having actionscript fire off a Toast notification. However, I'm taking the baby steps (Yes, I know I posted this in the Actionscript 2 forum) however this will allow me to better understand this on how to do it. Later on I will learn by myself how to port this over to AS3 and get that jiving with AIR.

I have created a map using flash and I converted each region from the map into a symbol.Also I implemented on flash level the up, over and down "events" for each region in part.After that, I try to implement the event for "hit" (I guess that it is similar with onClick event).The thing what I want to happen is to redirect me at specific page of that region.How can I implement the click method on a part of whole image?

HI've created a loader/container that houses 5 banner SWFs. The first banner loads as a default and using preview thumbnails which appear after hoving over the lower section of the container, you can jump to the banner of your choosing. ie. after banner 1 loads you hover over the bottom of the container, 5 previews appear, you click on let's say the second preview and the container unloads banner 1 and then loads banner 2 etc. See link below for the banner I created.The container is empty and loads the banner SWFs from an external server to save file size.My issue is I would like, for the banners to automatically loop 1-5 until you choose a preview which pauses the looping. To see the rest of the banners you would either continue clicking on the previews or press play.
Code attached for the container FLA file.
container codeimport com.greensock.*;
import com.greensock.easing.*;

Im looking for a quick solution (if its out there) using the autohide feature using the FLV Playback Component.
Current situation: Using ActionScript 2. The FLV component fills the stage. Autohide is set to true.
It looks to me that since the video fills the stage, the skin will not hide. What I would like to do is have the skin fade out if the mouse doesnt move for a certain period of time.

I'm trying to create a vertical auto scroll. The idea is to move up or down the image gallery when the user passes the mouse over a mask movie clip. Problem is I'm not sure how to determine the right coordenates form this movie clip. Let me explain, I can imaginary divide this movie clip in half. Top half let me move the gallery to the bottom and bottom half let me move the gallery to the top. It will be great if some easing could be added in the process.

Let's say function foo() is executing. Suppose that an external event occurs, for which you have a handler. Will function foo() be interrupted so that the event handler can be executed? What is the order of execution in this situation?

The simplified code:
//triggered on MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN
private function beginDrag(e:MouseEvent):void {
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, drag);
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, endDrag);
stage.addEventListener(Event.DEACTIVATE, endDrag);
[Code] .....
I am using some click-and-drag techniques within my flash code, and I've noticed some loopholes with the MOUSE_UP event:
-It wont be triggered if a context menu is activated while the mouse is still held down.
-It wont be triggered if the window is deactivated (alt+tab or similar)
What other events can possibly interrupt the MOUSE_UP event and lead to unexpected behavior? Additionally is there a way to generically catch ContextMenuEvent.MENU_SELECT for all context menus without having to manually add/remove the listeners to each context menu?

I'm just curious about the implementation of timers as flash is single threaded.If a timer event should fire, does it interrupt the current executing code, fire the event and then go back, or does it do something else?

I've been working on a flash project which needs to load external images for a web.The web will need to display an image one at a time, and so if i click on a thumbnail, an image will start to load. If the user decides to click on another thumbnail to open another images, it must interrupt or pause the loading, so another loader can load the new image, so the previous image is not displayed.The problem is, when i tried to interrupt the loader, the first loader didn't stop loading the image, instead it loads the image together with the second preloader.I've tried using loader. close(), but it does not stop the loading.Also tried using loader.unloadAndStop(), but in my understanding is that loader wont unload its content BEFORE it completes loading.Is there any other way to stop the loader from completing and replace it with the new loading process?

how to change this script to play automatically without the onMouseDown function. I have given it a shot but had no luck.I have been altering the code in the area marked in red but not sure if that's right???tage.scaleMode = 'noScale';var speedfactor = 3; // integer (runs through speedfactor frames of brush animation each frame)// the smaller speedfactor is, the more efficient the transition, however, you may need// to increase the speed of the brush animation if you want to cover all the area of the// image as well as allow the transition to play at a reasonable (fast) speedvar images = ["cardirty3", "car"]; // linkage ID list for bitmaps to transition to and from

I need to figure out if there is a way to code something so that we can have our map zoomed in, so it is only showing a section of the map in the veiwport at a time, but when the mouse reaches the edge of the screen I want it to automatically scroll with it, up, down, over, etc.

I would like a 'MouseOver' event to trigger a timer. then once the designated time is up the code will instruct to 'GotoAndPlay' the 2nd part of the MC. (so the MC will play from a designated frame - no probs there.) I know almost nothing about timer events and believe this is probably extremely easy to do; it's just that I don't know the code required.
I also know that a simple, but long way round, way of doing it would be to simply add a set of 'still' frames amounting to a certain amount of time. I am very curious about using timers though.

Ok I have this 100% width/height Flash embedded and when the user moves the mouse I want to display a panel, which disappears after x seconds if there is no more mouse movement.
I think I need an addEventListener, but I am not sure MOUSE_MOVE is the correct one. When the mouse stops moving I need to start x seconds to hide the panel, so I think with a timer?

I'm making an interactive film. At certain points within the film, the viewer has the ability to select from a few options that will direct them to an external video clip (they are flashback scenes). The main story pauses when the user selects a flashback scene and I'm clear on how to achieve this.
However, my issue is that once the flashback scene ends and the external video closes, I'm not sure how the main story will resume. Is it possible for it to auto-play (resume) in some way? My last resort would be to have the viewer select a play button - this is only because I do not want a break in the narrative and want to limit the amount of clicks the viewer has to make.

I am working on a very simple game in Flash. I want to make all the animations framerate agnostic, so that I can change the framerate without affecting the flow and speed of the game.I read somewhere that if you want to do that, you simply create a Timer object and attach an event listener to this timer.
What if I have many objects that have to listen to the same timer? See the code to understand what I am trying to do. At this stage nothing breaks, but the event does not fire.Here is the Main class, the one that runs on swf execution:
public class Main extends MovieClip {
private static var _stage:Stage;
private static var _timer:Timer;

so today my question is how can we have 1 function triggered by both a Timer event and a Mouse event? 'm trying to avoid having to re-write/re-name a function just because I also have a Mouse event that triggers it and not just a Timer event.
Issue:
I have a addThis bubble fade in with icons on a button rollover, the addThis bubble will fade out after the timer is finished, but I also have a close button in that bubble which needs to use the same function that the timer uses. (want to avoid writing 2 exactly alike functions)
I'm hoping this there is an easy workaround for this like event:null or something.[code]./...

What is the difference between Timer.stop() and Timer.reset() functions because it seems that the 2 functions do the same thing? I image Timer.stop() to stop the timer and when Timer.start() is called the timer starts from where it stopped. For example, if I have a 3 sec. timer (3000 ms). If I stop the timer after 2.5 sec. and start the timer again, I would expect the timer to expire/trip within .5 sec.

I have a ActionScript 3.0 project and I have a timer that is running on 1000 millisecond intervals. I would like to delay this timer for 1500 milliseconds perform an action and start the timer again after the delay. I thought I could do this easily, but I'm having trouble, would it be better to stop the timer and perform the action and then listen for the action to be completed to start the timer again?

In my case, the timer I make doesn't reduce its time whenever a function is called. What code will I change or add in order to reduce the time in my timer? [code]At this point the timer.start(); is placed on a frame so that the timer starts as it enters the frame.
