ActionScript 2.0 :: Button Going To RANDOM Frames?

So i have a website, made in AS2. its very simple- the only AS on the whole site is a few stop commands. and some
" on (release) {

commands.. now i have some buttons that all have the above script on them,the only difference being the "1100" number. they all work fine except 1 of them. If you go to the site and click on this problem button it will go to where you tell it , but if you go to this site and click on any other button first and THEN the problem button it will go to a random frame. it usually has about 10 particular frames it goes to but they are never in any order. The real kicker ... is that it will only do this once, after the button has taken you to the correct frame once it will keep taking you to the correct frame, until you refresh the page.

In my movie I have a movie clip that I want to circulate between a random selection of 12 frames automatically. Basically I want the movie clip to load like this.

I don't mean exactly this order, I just want it to cycle randomly through the 12 frames. How should I go about doing this?

I recently came across this script which I believe I have used before. However, I can seem to recall how to use it right as I can't get it to work. It is suppose to play the frames at random and not repeat any. Once that takes place I want it continue that cycle over and over. [code]...

created a (what I thought was simple) gallery.I have all the large images on a timeline layer were each image fades in over the course of half a second then stops. I created navigation buttons, next and previous on each frame that are supposed to navigate to the next image. The action script for the nav buttons is different depending on which image (frames) you are on. However, when I publish the swf the next and previous buttons don't go to the frames I prescribe for them in Actionscript, but just go to random frames in the timeline. Also, I have a series of thumbnails that have actionscript that navigates to pictures/frames when clicked so I don't know if they are interacting badly. Does anyone have any idea whats going on?Here's an example of the AS for the previous and next buttons (instance names prev_btn and next_btn):

I'm trying to make a series of 16 short movies loop infinitely in a random order. I have a master movie clip called "random_mov" that has 17 frames. In frame one is an action:gotoAndStop(1 + Math.floor(Math.random() * 17));Frames 2 - 17 are my individual movies (movie1, movie2, movie3, etc...), one per frame. The code above does seem to work, but it only works once, looping a randomly selected frame forever. I need it to go back to frame one after each movie is complete so it can select another random frame

So I have a movie with 20 frames...on each frame...there is a question...so I want the user to access that pool of questions...when it pops up...it will randomly choose a Frame to go to...Now...how do I go about...when that Frame is chosen...take it out of the pool of the random questions...so it doesn't land on that frame again...I'm thinking with variables maybe...but I actually don't know how to even begin to write the code for that.

I need to tell a button to go to a random frame of 6 frames. Lets say these frames are 20 to 25.
Now I think I understand most of this except one thing. How do I change this script to pick a number from 20 to 25, rather than 1 to 10?

I ve recently done an animation that shows 4 different images when any of 4 corresponding buttons are clicked. This part works ok, but Im currently stuck on how to go about creating a function that scrolls through each of these 4 images in sequence from 1 - 4 without clicking any of the 4 buttons.This is the actionscript code so far:

how to literally describe what I want to achieve. But I believe it is an easy achievement for someone who is a little familiar with Actionscript (2).
I have a movieclip with backgrounds that fades in and out as the timeline within the movieclip plays. What I wanna do I place an actionscript at frame 1, before any of the background plays, that randomizes a gotoAndPlay function that jumps to a decided frames out of frame 2, 77, 152, 227, 302, 377 etc.
It should be a problem to use the same actionscript after each background has been shown? If it is, its no problem, doesnt matter too much. As long as the first background that is getting randomized is different each time you visit the website.

I have a short movie which consists of 6 MCs. What I would like to be able to do is to start the movie on a random clip and then proceed as usual playing each consecutive MC. The movie then loops back round to frame 2 thus avoiding the random selector code which sits on the first frame of the movie.I have tried three different solutions of AS, two of which I got from a 2008 posting on this site from CBadger and although all versions work in Safari and v1 & 3 work in Google Chrome on the Mac. None of them work in Firefox on a Mac (the 1st version displays but doesn't randomise and v2 & v3 don't display at all) and I have not yet tested them on a PC.Here is the code that I have used for each version on the first frame in the root:

I have a movie with various movie clips on certain frames. What I want is the playhead to randomly jump to different frames I specify within the movie after each Movie clip has played. So at the end of each movie clip there would be a random script forcing the playhead to play another movie clip randomly. My movie has 100 frames but I only want the random sequence to occur on the following frames 10, 13, 25, 86, 75, 56. Or If I labelled the frames how would I label them?? Would they all have to have the same label, or each label different?

I guess its some kind of random array.. but i dont know how to form it, need it for game(dont want same frames repeat its stupid ) And only specific frame numbers(i have motions between specific frame numbers).

I am building sort of a slideshow that features a counter. Everytime the countdown gets to 0 it should go to another frame RANDOMLY and start itself again. So far, I was successful at that using a Math function [i.e. gotoAndStop(Math.round(Math.random() * 5)+1);]. However, i needed the random function to include UNIQUE instances, so that it would not go twice to a same frame. Everywhere I looked for I was told that the way of doing that was creating an Array.
However, it all worked with the Math function and now that I have an array not only it doesnt work but I get a runtime error, an ArgumentError: Error #2109: Frame label 0,2,3,1 not found in scene Scene 1. It's like it cannot find the source of the randomiser function. How did this happen and, how can I make it work and still obtain a unique randomised order?

Ok- so the idea is that when you click a button it plays the movies assigned to the variables gallery & button to the frames mentioned. Then the variables are changed and then when another buttons is clicked it does the same - 'except it doesn't - it does it once then sits there I have to use variables because there's a lot more buttons..but i don't understand why it doesn't work - it seems such a simple and obvious thing to try and do - why is it so HARD???

I have a MC, which i would like to act as a button, controlled by AS. So,inside the MC is a simple animation (the button just goes left for ten frames (preferred rollOver action) and then back for another ten (preferred rollOut action).On the MC actions I put:

What happens is the following: on mouse over the mc goes left, on mouse out the mc goes back to its original place.It works exactly as it is supposed to. Exactly until you try again... if you move the mouse away from the mc (onRollOut), before the animation reaches the end, it goes bezerk.what happens and also how the animation can be done using only AS (with some for loop or function or something and chaning _x property)?

I'm using flash for the first time to create my graphic design portfolio and I'm having trouble keeping the file size small, and can reduce it by (hopefully) doing the following:
My resume has a lot of classic tweens with alpha channels (to create fadein/fadeout effects) and as of right now, I need to create a separate layer of fadein, fadeout for each transition. IE: My resume to portfolio page needs one 20-frame transition, my portfolio page to resume needs a 20-frame transition, my 2nd page of my portfolio page to my biography needs a 20-frame transition, etc. It's getting out of hand.
I could easily remedy this by using a lot of separate fadeins fadeouts and then coding buttons to navigate from, say, frames 120-130 (resume fadeout) then go to frame 160-170 (biography fadein), then navigate to a static page. I'm not sure if this is possible, as my buttons would have to change functions each frame.
Another possible way is that currently for each button I have different layers in order to direct the button to different frames, and have placing hem in the same spot. I'm wondering if there's any way to have buttons go to separate frames on different frames, if you get what I mean (on frame 120 it'll go to 130, on frame 150 it'll go to 160 but still be the same button". Right now each button is coded with on release gotoandplay <frame>.

Say I have a button called a_btn on frame 1
I have a function attached to this button of the sort:
a_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, funca);
Say I have the same button (a_btn) on frame 2
If I attach a new function to a button like:
a_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, funcb);
I get an error.
How can I have the button now respond to the new function in frame 2 of my movie?

I wane use my button to play a set of frames, let say from scene "apple" to scene "orange" , i used
gotoAndPlay("apple")
and then immideatly
gotoAndStop("orange")
but obviously it doesn't work, because it skip the transition in-between. I am not a pro in AS3 guys they question may sound funny,

I have a movie that I have been working on.There is a simple animation/intro and then a main frame with several buttons set up to jump ahead to other frames.There are 4 buttons and they all work just fine and go to the respective frame with no problems.
My problem is in trying to add a button to one of those frames. I can't get any button to work on any of those frames at all. I tried to add a "home" button that jumps back to the main frame, but that wouldn't work. So, I tried to copy the main frame and move it ahead on the time line but that didn't work either. I tried to add buttons for the other frames as well and no button would work (regardless of where it was referenced) on those other frames.Here is the error message I keep getting:
Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

Here's the code for my first frame. There's a next button that when clicked, goes to the next frame.

The second frame is blank. The third frame has an exact copy of the next_btn on the stage.... Yet when I click it, it does not take me to the next frame. It does nothing. What gives?
To be clear, the actionscript timeline stretches throughout the whole flash.

It seems like no matter where I check, there isn't a clear answer to this particular issue.Rather than blabber on about the code, I think it is important for me to address that I may just not be setting up my document correctly. At present, I created several layers, some in folders, for a basic portfolio website. I have my problems with my main buttons, in my "Sections" folder, where each button is a distinctive layer so it can be animated when it is pressed.I have a button called 'architecture' that is pressed, but instead of just statically moving the frame to the desired content, I want to play 5-7 frames that I tweened for a small transition (sometimes opacity, sometimes sliding mask) that occurs right before the content. All my transitions and everything is just on this one main timeline.
Basically, I sort of want to have the best of both worlds, where I can goToAndPlay, but then stop it at the end of that segment, as to not run into my next frames of content.My first solution was to simply place a stop(); at the end of the transition, but then the menu just locks and stops. Of course this was on my top layer named 'actions.'I then tried applying each event listener to it's buttons' layers, but that resulted in the button simply not working.I segmented up the actions layer into keyframes, but then realized that it didn't call on the event listeners if I did that.
