I'm trying to call a function that will slowly move/fade an object and it doesn't seem to want to work.

I've gotten this code from another tutorial site but trying to modify it so I can apply it to my other flash movies. Firstly what this does is it moves the object around 300 x 300 document in random coordinates. But what I want it to do is make it transparent as it decelerates or have it's alpha go down to 0 as it nears the destination. And when it gets a new destination it's alpha resets back to 100 again to repeat the process.

I have a function on root:

This causes a mc to fade in and out on rollover/rollout. But what I wanna make is a box that fades in when pressed on the button and fade out when pressed for the second time. But if I say
on (press){
_root.fade = true;
}
the mc fades in, but I cant do another on (press) to fade out. Is this too confusing?

I wrote these functions to fade 3 movieClips in and out. There are three buttons- 1, 2, and 3, and each fade in and out their relative movieclip.
The problem is that when I click through the buttons, sometimes one might fade in, but one of the others doesn't fade out. Or sometimes the one that is supposed to fade out does, but it is delayed.

I have an AS3 program that calls a function multiple times. The function must return multiple variables, so I created a class for the function to declare an object containing all of these variables. For example, here's my class:

Let's say the calling program calls the function, which returns the variables into data_set1 (where data_set1 depends on input variables arg1, arg2, arg3) using:
var data_set1:PER = function_name(arg1, arg2, arg3);
The calling program does some stuff, then calls the function again, but returns the variables into a new variable name, data_set2:
var data_set2:PER = function_name(arg4, arg5, arg6);
My intention is that data_set1 and data_set2 are different (e.g. not linked together).
My question is, given that arrays are passed by reference, will data_set1 be modified to agree with data_set2 upon the 2nd function call? Why or why not?

ok you know when on a button it may "move up" or somthing and then you get off the button and it pops righ back into place.. how do u make it move slowly and fluently back to the position.. like if you have 4 different boxes, and you click it and the arrows move to next box, but if the first box is clicked again, it will moved up to previous box smoothly back to the first box, what code do i need for this...?

I have a swf that should be able to load another swf in runtime. Then I would like the loaded swf to call a method of the parent, loader swf, like this:

But when I compile it, it throws this error:
1119: Access of possibly undefined property closeForm through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObjectContainer.
I've tried:

I am trying to call a Jscript function from a flash object. I want the function to be called when the animation ends.

I have an object that points in the direction of another object (i.e. it rotates to the direction that the second objects x and y coordinates are at) below is the code I use.
var distx = target.x - x;
var disty = target.y - y;
var angle:Number = Math.atan2(disty, distx);

as you can see. Not only does it rotate towards the target object, but it also moves towards it too. When I play the movie, the object instantly points to the targeted object and moves towards it. I would like for it to slowly turn towards the object instead of instantly turning towards it.

i have some actionscript that makes a
ExternalInterface.call('someFunction');
call.is it possible to reference the html object that made the call to someFunction directly using the ExternalInterface.call call?
Assume that the object that makes the call also has some Callbacks (via ExternalInterface.addCallback) that are accessible via javascript.

I would like to fade in and out and object with the colorTransform-method. When I apply the colorTransform to my object it does fade out the thing but not fade in. At first I set the alpha of the bitmapData to 0 (for the fade in-effect). After applying the colorTransform it does nothing. No fade in. Otherwise when I set the alpha of the bitmapData to 100 and let it fade out it works.

I'm working on a function that replaces an existing movie clip with a symbol from the library and then designates an "updater" function for the new instance. I have the first part working as intended, but I'm not sure how to approach creating the "updater" function.I've considered using event listeners, but I'm not sure if that is my best option.The following is a excerpt from my code.
