ActionScript 3.0 :: Preloader Using Mask To Slowly Reveal Target Object
Nov 25, 2008
I have a preloader using a mask, set to slowly reveal the target object from the bottom up as the movie loads. But there is something off with the code and I'm not a programmer.
Code: for (i=0; i<200; i++) { circle.duplicateMovieClip("circle"+i, this.getNextHighestDepth()); randX = Math.floor(random(Stage.width)); randY = Math.floor(random(Stage.height)); this.banner.setMask(this["circle"+i]); this["circle"+i]._x = randX; this["circle"+i]._y = randY; } Circle is a movieclip that has a circle starting at 2px by 2px and expands to 100 by 100. Banner is just a movieclip, but I would like these expanding circles to act as a mask to reveal the banner. This should work, but isn't, I know I am overlooking something.
I have plenty of ways of creating falling snow like effects, but a client has just comitted me to an effect as a test of my ability without talking to me first, that I am a little stumped by. use AS2 or AS3 for this project because of the filters and tween effects available to me.I need to have a top down falling snow effect (its actually supposed to be flour falling from a sieve but hey...). All the snow effects I know, fall down sideways on, from top to bottom, and then they disappear off the page (the flakes).I need the particles (movieclips) to fall downwards from a birds eye view, and 90% of them to disappear, but the remaining 10% to gradually (over about 5 seconds) build up a white logo (shape) in the middle of the screen.So I am guessing that I am going to have to be clever with dynamic masks to get the shape appearing a little bit at a time, and then I also need some random motion, and scaling as the particles fall downwards (and away) from the eye.
I have a question, and I find it hard to find resources on it. I have two layers, and another layer with an image of a broom on it. I want to use the broom to move over layer2, and reveal the layer beneath it. Kind of making a sweeping game. Frankly my search efforts on google have only come up with alot of masking, but I am sure you need actionscript to make the broom move with the mouse.

Before I jump in at the deep end, has anyone got any ideas on this, even just part of it (the falling particles or the revealing dynamic mask part) would be a great help.Please let me know if you can help with ideas and input in anyway, and I'll give you credit on the final project when complete, as well as much help as I can with game related scripting and deisgn/URL...
I'm trying to create a preloaded that reveals an image. Example of what I mean is: when 10% is loaded 10% of the image is visible when 50% is loaded 50% is visible.
I am trying to create a simple interactive flash video, where the user moves the mouse over the image to reveal an image underneigth (almost like a rubbing-out effect).
I want to create a simple script in AS2 that can reveal and un-reveal some text upon clicking (and any additional graphic), preferably with a simple transition (likely a tween). How would I go about achieving this?
I just started working on a preloader screen that includes a preloader mask over a logo and a percentage dynamic text. I can get either or to work but not both at the same time. I notice that if I remove stop(); I can get the percentage to work but not the preloader image. With the stop(); embedded the image preloader works but the percentage doesn't.
I have an object that points in the direction of another object (i.e. it rotates to the direction that the second objects x and y coordinates are at) below is the code I use.
var distx = target.x - x; var disty = target.y - y; var angle:Number = Math.atan2(disty, distx);
[code]....
as you can see. Not only does it rotate towards the target object, but it also moves towards it too. When I play the movie, the object instantly points to the targeted object and moves towards it. I would like for it to slowly turn towards the object instead of instantly turning towards it.
I want to modify an object's x position slowly (e.g. 4 pixels per frame) from actionscript. How do I go about doing this? It would be simple if AS3 had Sleep() and DoEvents() functions - are there equivalents?
how to create a mask like this with ActionSript.It looks like a curtain opener and i would like to do this completely programmaticly if its possible.I am using TweenLite as my Tweening Framework.[URL]
How do I do mask preloader? I've created a 100 frame preloader but I do not know how to write the mask preloader. I've successfully created a width preloader which is start from left to the end of right. but is not masking. Here is my 100 frame preloader [URL].
I am building a preloader that features an animated character (a movieclip named 'dogLoad'). As the preloader progresses I would like the movieclip to be told to advance further along its timeline. I managed to get it to work once but deleted the code by mistake...
I have followed a tutorial for creating a preloader and it works perfectly - until I try to move the MovieClip to a mask layer. I'd like to use the mask layer to incrementally expose an underlying MovieClip, but when I change the progress bar layer to a mask layer, it fails. The following line produces a #1010 error:
progBar is the MovieClip in question. Preloader is in the root. As long as the layer is not a mask layer, it works - just not like I want it to. How does the code have to change to recognize the object in a mask layer?
So I've made a circular preloader made with some shapes and masks. Everything like this works. What I want to do now is add a movieclip of animations to the stage and make it look like this movie clip is in the progress circle of the preloader. So what I did is create a movieclip container to hold all of the shapes that animate on loading. I then used that movieclip container to mask the movieclip of animations.What happens when published is the movieclip of animations (the particles) loads over the shapes, but all of their masks are gone. So it's as if when I applied the mask to the container, all of it's children and their masks stopped working. Is there a way to correctly do this?
I'm trying to make a preloader with a mask effect. preloader.zip I need the animation to follow the path the right way - from point 1 to point 2. Of course this is wrong now because the mask effect isnt well done.
Code: var sCale:Number = 100; var mcMyClip:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader(); var myListener:Object = new Object(); mcMyClip.addListener(myListener);
[code]....
when the preloader load everything it goes to 10 frame, and all content will show, so it works very fine, but.but except the "TITLE.swf" and it will show up after while, because it was still downloading.I have found out in Flash in "Test Movie", when I test the preloader.How do I target the Title.swf into the preloader?, so it preloads together with main movie. It doesn't look good when everything shows up and the title after few seconds later.
I have a as3 class that loads a number of images from a given location, they are all loaded dynamically with imageloader. However I'm trying to make a Xray screen for all of them, so when I click and drag the Xray screen around, it will reveal the images loaded under each picture, creating a sort of Xray effect.I tried using masks, however since the images are all loaded dynamically they are its own class with its own layers, I'm trying to make a mask that will work for all of them (I load 2 picture for each image, example car.jpg and carb.jpg, b.jpg being the inside image).so I have my stage ---> [MyXray Box, and my Images
I have a preloader that is being served from a CDN, and I want it to load the target SWF also from the CDN but when it uses loaderInfo, it returns the hostname of the html file.[code]Is there some way that I can get the URL that the preloader was served from which is the CDN?
I'm just learning to load a swf into location/target and on my swf to be loaded in i made a preloader bar. It works in test but when it is loaded through the original swf file the bar doesnt move, though the swf loads ok. I've looked at this a lot but cant see what's up...so
i found out when i add a dynamic mask to my preloader progress bar (for transition out) its not scaling correct. I think its because my bar isnt tweening to the correct "stageWidth" during progress until it completes. I setted it up like that:
Somehow it looks like 100% of the loading progress doesnt represent the entire stageWidth so my bar animation finishes some pixels before reaching stageWidth end. NowJust noticed it now after adding a dynamic mask to my preloaders progress bar.
I have a looped sound and some components in my main movie (scroll bar) which for some reason is really bogging down my swf and causing the preloader bar not to show up until like 46% or something ridiculous.So I am trying to solve the problem by having a preloader swf as suggested by Kode in this thread. However, now all my targeting is messed up in my main movie. Everything that was _root has to change but I can't tell what to load it into. I tried using _parent, _parent._parent, _root.container_mc (which is a blank movie clip created in the preloader swf that main is loaded into after the preloader is 100%) and others but nothing works. Even the simple looped sound which was originally just _root.backsound.start(0,999) can't be targeted.how to target things on my main stage based on the preloader swf?
I want a mask to go over some words in relation to the percentage of the file loaded. Below it I want text that says 1%, 2%, 3%, etc. (also in relation to the percentage loaded). But when I test it and click "simulate download," the screen stays white for about 10 seconds then goes to frame 2 where my content starts.?! I get no errors, either. PS: on Flash CS5, is TLF text the same as Dynamic? For "percentage," the only two options are Classic and TLF...
I have a problem which I can't resolve. The problem is that if I apply a mask to object, it shows up deformed in swf.Here is what I see in Flash CS5 (sorry for large images): And this is what I get when I compile it and run swf (or run it embedded in html):
It looks a little bit rotated and skewed to the left. If I copy and paste the movieclip with mask to a new flash document, the problem dissaperas, so I guess it has something to do with Flash settings. I tried to compile for Flash 10 and Flash 9, but the deformation remains. The problem is that creating a new flash document and copying all images to new one is not an option, because the project is ~80MB.Here are my publish settings.
I tried to mask a 3D Display object using some code from the AS3 reference but was unsuccessful:
var square:Sprite = new Sprite(); square.graphics.beginFill(0xFF0000); square.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, 40, 40); addChild(square); myDisplayObject.mask = square;
Is it possible to mask a 3D Display Object? (Can I draw a 3D Display Object through the Flash UI or must it be done via AS3? My guess is no, otherwise more people would be doing 3D in Flash without great travail.)
