ActionScript 2.0 :: Delay The Execution Of A Group Of Actions For A Few Seconds?
Aug 29, 2004
I just need a simple way for flash to delay the execution of a group of actions for a few seconds.
Here is the code I need delayed:
_root.randomnumber=(random(20))
if (_root.randomnumber<=8){_root.commentbox="Hit!"}
if (_root.randomnumber<=8){_root.enemyhp-=15, nextFrame()
}
else {_root.commentbox="Miss!"
}
I'm querying Rotten Tomatoes' API for movies listed in an XML document. The problem I'm having is, whist iterating through and querying for each movie I'm hitting RT's API limit which, in turn, is throwing an IO error. Is there a way I can delay execution in a loop for about a second or so, to avoid this?
I am trying to find a way to delay code placed on a button. The code is executed when a learner presses it and makes a specific movie clip appear. At the same time, this code checks to see if the other movies have been viewed (which is required) and if so, goes to the finished keyframe. The problem with this is, the last movie clip goes too quickly because the code immediately executes sending the learner to the last "Finished" frame. I am trying to find a way to either use a setInterval or something else to delay the execution of this last bit of code allowing the learner time to view it. Here is what I have placed on each of the movieclips:
I have some code here for some falling leaves. I was wondering how it can be altered so there is a delay between a group of leaves falling and the next group falling? also to slow down at the end of the fall? [code]
I am trying to delay the execution of the code within a function. But it is not working. I would like content of the doTour() function execute 25 seconds of interval.
The following code is on a movieclip being used as a button.The code is pretty simple. Originally the code was just the code after the gap. This code loaded up a movieclip (filtermc) off-stage that runs through an xml file and preloads a form. This takes a second or two, and when finished that newly loaded movie tweens into position. The tween code is on a frame in the 'filtermc' movieclip.
The problem is that in the second or two that it takes for this movie to load, people could click the button a second time which messes up the form/movieclip (everything on it is unresponsive, I think because two movieclips having the same name)
Anyway, I decided to solve this problem by loading a transparent blocker movieclilp in front of this button to keep it from being double clicked. This blocker clip is just a movie that has an empty onRelease function in it so that the button below it cannot receive any new clicks. Also, the button goes to another frame where it says "loading..." to provide feedback to the user.
The Problem When I click this button, there is a delay of about 2 seconds before the semitransparent (for testing) blocker appears. In fact it appears just as the filtermc clip has started it's tween into place.
It is almost like this code is running out of order. The traces come back in the correct order so I know it is not running out of order, but why the 2 second delay before the blocker movie gets loaded up? The button also takes 2 seconds to show the "loading" frame. The traces also have the same 2 second delay.
If I comment out the second half of the code (the filtermc part) then the blocker movieclip pops up instantly and the button changes frame instantly.
PHP Code:
on (release) { //problems occur if button is pressed twice before filtermc scrolls into view //this button must be disabled until the filtermc finishes loading
although I do come from a OOP background. I have been asked to trial Flash and Actionscript 3 in particular - so I do come with a few preconceptions on how I expect actionscript to behave and I'm getting the impression that this is causing me problems.One issue I have is when I create a new instance of the class and assign it to a variable, subsequent background changes to that instance of the class are not 'picked-up' when referenced through the variable. I would expect that given instance of class could be assigned to many different variables and any background updates using one variable would accessible using any of the other variables. This doesn't seem to be the case.I have a test class, XMLDataLoader, which is coded as follows:
package { public class XMLDataLoader { import flash.events.*;
I am using a while() loop which does its job as soon as I fetch CDATA content from XML. The while() loop basically contains text conversions using replaceText()... Depending on the number of user defined XML nodes, the while loop executes. I see that the flash application hangs for 3 or 4 seconds when this execution happens.
I looked at the Timer function but I guess I am not using it right. I have something like this: var mytimer:Timer = new Timer(1000, 1); addChild(blah); mytimer.Start(); addChild(blah2); I was hoping I'd see a 1 second delay between the first and 2nd movieclips being added, but I'm not. How do I insert a delay between actions?
I need a second or less in between 2 consecutive actions. I need a function.. like delayfor(seconds) which I have to insert between 2 actions. I tried something with getTimer.. but the computer then works slow because it checks the time very often.
This is my buttons code: on(release) { for (p=0;p<10;p++) { // I need here a second to stop/pause/delay/to do nothing but wait (*) line.lineTo(.......); }} So I need a second delay between every action in that "for".
how to add a delay to the attack button of the character. Right now you are able to leave the button pressed and the character stays on the attacking animation and you can simply do that to destroy everything, so at least having to press again to make the attack animation happen again would also be perfect.
If I have some actions for a button and I want them executed 4 seconds (or a specific time interval) after the button is clicked is there a function that will do this?
I am wondering if when the user clicks, is there any way to delay this action from occurring for a few seconds? For example, if the user clicks, this action won't happen for 2 seconds. Is there any code I can add before or around it to make this happen?
i have a very simple animation in flash CS4. My image travels from point X to point Y over 90 frames.I would like the image to stop at frame 45 for a few seconds, before continuing.
I'm using tweenMax and I want a tween to start after the mouse has been hovering over the button for about 2 seconds.
Now, I have figured out the 'delay' function but that is not that useful because it just registers the fact that the mouse is over the button and starts the tween 2 seconds later, regardless of where the mouse is on the screen.I basically want the button to become active after the mouse has been over it for 2 seconds.
I have 40 frames on a timeline, each frame has an tweening script below: import fl.transitions.*; import fl.transitions.easing.*; TransitionManager.start(week_2,{type:Fade, direction:Transition.IN, duration: 12, easing:Strong.easeOut}) And on the main timeline for the functions and buttons play/pause/next/previous is working good except, I want to delay every frame for like 10 seconds.
I've a site where consumer can take a live meeting with the beauty consultant. The problem I'm facing is during the video chat. Basically there is a delay of 5 seconds between Video and Audio when I access the site from out of my network but when I access it within my network (VPN) then it's work fine.
I've build a simple video chat application. The problem is that there is a delay of seconds between video display i.e. user1 video motion change displayed bit late at the user2 window. I'm using FMS 3.5 and FLEX.. IS THIS PROBLEM RELATED TO THE BANDWIDTH. My FMS bandwidth is 256kbps.
How can I make an image appear (a button) after a delay of say 15 seconds?
I need the image to display after 15 seconds, and then stay. I have read to use gettimer or setInterval, but I'm not sure how to do it in my particular case. In very rough terms, I need something like this:
onEnterFrame: setInterval to 15000 and then _root.button.gotoAndPlay(2); (this will display my image) clearInterval
I'm building a continous move in flash, and I'm displaying some text and images and want to hold the timeline for about 20 seconds and then resume play again. I'm trying to write a simple timer in AS to keep from having to create 10000 frame long movie clips. Here's what I have so far:
stop(); this.onEnterFrame { time = getTimer(); if (time == 20) { play(); }}
Unfortunately, this isn't working for me, and 'm unsure why. I suspect two things, A: my "time" var takes only a snapshot value of the timer and not a continuous value, so the timer never reaches the value of 20. Or, B: I have somesort of syntax wrong and the if never gets a chance to load.
my normal work day involves screen sharing with a programmer while we engineer the software.We are currently working on a site that involves flash .as3(created with flash CS3) talking with an .asmx web service (created in Visual Web Developer 2005) that talks to a sql (2008)database.When can push or pull data from the database successfully, but we are experiencing a 15 second delay if more than one request from the database is made at the same time. i.e. two customers login at the same time, or one customer logs in and another submits changes to their account.
The second request will not be instant until 15 seconds have elapsed In other words, if someone sends logs in and another person logs in 10 seconds later, the wait will be 5 seconds.Of course, the delay is cumulative...so if 3 people log in simultaneously, there is a 30 second wait. Gross.This only occurs when we are trying to access the database...flash and the web service seem to talk great together otherwise.
Basically I want to recreate a sound installation that I made a couple of months ago which used Logic Express and a Tape Delay effect to take ambient sound captured by a mic, delay its output by 3 seconds, and then play it into the headphones. All without recording anything and in realtime.I've basically got this far, which lets me hear the mic input through my headphones loud and clear. Now all I want to do is apply a 3 second delay to the input before it outputs. Do I have to send the audio to a buffer where it can be constantly stored and rewritten?
Code: //Create a new Microphone var mic:Microphone = Microphone.getMicrophone();
I'm experiencing an annoying issue with a movie clip button. The movie clip is linked to a class which adds a rollover and rollout effect. The issue I'm having is that, even though the button is in frame 1, the button doesn't react to the mouse for some seconds into the movie. The only thing I can think is that it's the class itself, but I'm not certain. Here's the class:-
i have a slideshow with a delay of for example 3 seconds, and a preloader which is a line with a 100px final length.i start preloading next image.now if the time until next image loads is longer than slideshow delay, i will show next image as soon as it loads.if the time until next image loads is shorter that than slideshow delay, i want to wait additional time until delay and then show the image.the problem is how do i represent smooth line width grow (being enter frame or tween) by calculating/comparing 2 values together (delay and loader percent, which goes from 0 - 100) ?if my line growth represent just a slideshow delay, then when it gets to an end, if next image still hasnt loaded, then it wont look good if line has come to an end, but i still have to wait.
I was wondering how I can delay (2 seconds) a video to play in a Flash Video Player? I know one way is for me to add blank frames but I would like to know some other options.
I've got some MC's in my library that have radiobuttons in them -- all of this created at design time -- and pull them onto the stage dynamically. My question is how do I get the selectedData from the group? The setup is like this: In a MC called pageOne, I have a group of buttons with a group name of Q1, Q2, etc. I pull the MC onto the stage like this:
[Code]...
Do I need instance names on each of the buttons and add listeners to all of them?
