View 3 RepliesI have a counting movie which displays numbers from 1 to 1000 (action scripts) in a dynamic text box. First 1 and then 2 and so on. It works very well. I convert this movie to a movie clip and drag this new movie clip to the main stage on frame 1, but anything happens now.

View 14 RepliesI am currently taking a value from another source and splitting it into Thousands / Hundreds / Tens / Ones to drive MC's containing images of numbers. Originally I was using this external value to drive a dynamic text box and that was absolutely fine. When the external value went below zero the dynamic text box reflected this and started counting downwards ie 0 -1, -2, -3 ......-100 etc etc. However with the system I am now trying to implement when the external value goes below zero my counters show 9999 and count down towards zero.
For example the actual value of the external value = -32 but my counter system is showing 968. Always the sum of the actual value and my counter value = 1000. So again maybe actual value is -160 but my counter shows 840.Below is the section of the script splitting the external value (roundelevation) into 1000/100/10/1's
Code:
roundelevation = Math.round(scaledelevationMils);
EliThous = Math.floor(roundelevation / 1000);
EliHund = Math.floor(roundelevation / 100) - 10 * EliThous;
EliTen = Math.floor(roundelevation / 10) - 100 * EliThous - 10 * EliHund;
EliOne = Math.floor(roundelevation) - 1000 * EliThous - 100 * EliHund - 10 * EliTen;
I am using these variables (EliThous / Elihund) etc to move to different frames of mc's inside the Mc's each frame is an image of a number.It works absolutely perfectly when the external value is above zero and my counter is counting upwards / downwards. However as soon as it begins having to deal with the external value being a negative number it begins counting down from 9999 instead of beginning at -0001 and counting -0002.how to make this work when dealing with a negative input value and I really don't want to have to go back to using the font and dynamic text box approach.
how to do this and not found much, so here goes:
I want to generate a variable number of random numbers less than 16 with no duplicate numbers
Ive posted the fla, and what i'm doing is generating a random number and putting it into an array then using a for loop to cycle through the array for each new random number to check if its already there. if it is, then i want to regenerate that number.
if you test the fla you'll see that all i get in my array is some lovely zero's and i sort of know why this is, but don't know how to stop it.
I am making a flash game for a school project, and I decided to make a stick fighting game.once the enemy attacks the player their health just drains. The only way I can fix it is if I have a decimal instead of a whole number, but I have the variable of the health in a text box to display the players current health and it doesn't look to good with a decimal number.So, I am wondering if there is a way to make the health decrease by a decimal, but show a whole number in the textbox.[code]
View 2 Repliesi want to loop throught the xml for the same number and counting each of them, after the count put it into an array
[Code]..
I'm using a PHP Script to create XML. Which pulls through the data from a Database. I have an video list, which pulls through X amount of videos. But I want to show them 5 at a time. I want to hide a button once it reaches the amount of videos in the XML.Hope there's enough detail in this question. My script is as follows.....
// Event Handler
protected function videoRetrieval_resultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void {
var videoData:ArrayCollection = event.result.videos.video;
[code].....
In the first frame you have to input numbers in three input text fields. And then in next frame when you press "1" "2" and "3" the same numbers appears in three dynamic text fields. I've done all that, but what I cannot figure out is how to make this numbers appear with counting up (e.g. by 50 [0, 50, 100, 150,...]).
I saw already this old thread showthread.php3?t=116768&page=2 (sorry, not allowed to post links) and I tried to manage the code from user "sunlis" to work, but not successfully. And his code is written in ActionScript 1 or 2, I'm not sure, but I need ActionScript 3.0 code.
how to write a function that will count how many characters you can enter to text field i.e: we have a text field with max char = 60, and when you type text we see that number going down
View 1 RepliesIs there anyway to count the number of occurrences of an element in an array? E.g.
array = (a, a, c, h, a, h, g, j, j, j)
//Number of times each element appears in the array
a=3
c=1
h=2
g=1
j=3
I made a .fla file that uses an "include" to pull in a bunch of variables from a .as file. I would like to be able to count the number of variables in this file so that I can make the thing more "automatic" so that if someone else in my office adds more variables to the .as file it updates itself. Similar to the way you can count children using an XML file.
View 4 RepliesI am creating a simple image viewer using AS3 and getting image URLs from flashVars in the HTML. I want to use an if argument to have it perform one function if there is only one flashVar and another if there are more. I have it reading the flashVars fine and can write if statements all day long, the trouble I am having is counting the number of flashVars being passed from the HTML.
var numberOfVars:Number = 0; // to store the number of flashVars
var paramObj:Object = LoaderInfo(this.root.loaderInfo).parameters; //get the flashVars
for each (paramObj in LoaderInfo(this.root.loaderInfo).parameters){
numberOfVars + 1;
} var tf:TextField = new TextField();
addChild(tf);

Given this XML code:[code]I can count the total number of game elements in the XML.game with:[code]Is there please some way to print the number of all game elements having the exact number of 3 user children? And also count all such elements with less than 3 user children?[code]The backgound is, that I have a Flex game, where up to 3 players can sit at a playing table and I'm trying to display the number of All, Vacant and Full playing tables there (the top left row with RadioButtons, sorry for the non-English language):I'm reading the XMLList doc, but don't see how to do it with one-liners, I only can see how to do it with loops...
View 1 RepliesI want the classic odometer styled counter but i want to put in some information for it to run with.. A start date, a end date and a number (e.g. meters) which needs to be reached in the given time spanThe odometer should hereafter show the current progress and increased accordingly.So i figured out how to get the time span traced out in seconds and thereby the meter increase every second (dividing: meters/seconds)Now the tricky part is to put these numbers in the odometer: The current progress and the increasement.

is it possible to count the number of lines in a dynamic textfield?
View 1 RepliesI need to count the number of lines that exists in a txt file, from which I load some content. I think I need to escape the content of the txt to be able to read the "/n", to count them and to have them displayed as variable (for example t_linenumber=...?)
View 5 RepliesI'm trying to build a functionality into a Flash app, which would calculate the number of days that have passed since a defined date.
The idea is that a start date would be defined in the script (in whatever format) and the application would count and return the number of days since that date. According to that number the app would determine the availability of a set of links listed in the style of a calendar. I'm gonna be using a date variable from my servers to determine the current date.
How should I proceed with this? How should the varying number of days in months be handled? What about leap year?
I have attached a copy of what I am trying to do and basically everything works. Except my button in the loaded movie....I am trying to load a movie in a holder and have a button that had if else statement based on the movie being clicked. I have attempted this buy setting up a count on a movieClip but this seems to disable the buttons in the loading movie?

View 1 RepliesHow I can format numbers in Flash so that it will show two decimal places regardless of the number itself?
View 7 RepliesI'm trying to show some data that's integers but the BarChart is using fractional values on the axis which makes no sense in this scenario. Is there any way to force the chart to only use integer values on the axis? I don't know the range so it could be anything from 1 to 10000000, so I can't just explicitly set up everything.
View 4 RepliesHow can i check if a number is between two other numbers like:
pseudocode:
var = 458;
if (var is between 0 and 1000) give positive.
if (var is between 1001 and 2000) give negative.
if (var is between 2001 and 3000) give negative.
I'm designing in AS2 - because for some reason, i thought this tutorial was made for AS2 - is this AS3 code and is that the problem??The Problem. The game runs fine, but the score keepers (both for hit and missed balloons) only show the numbers 1 and 5. so if i pop one balloon, it says 1. then for a score of 2, 3, and 4, it is blank. until i pop that 5th balloon, then it says 5, then back to blank for a score of 6.Even stranger (to me) is that the game has a count-down timer that counts backwards from 60. it also only shows then the time has a 1 or a 5 in it. same as the scores.
View 4 RepliesI can't seem to find anything that would let me to easily show a Number in a label, textinput, etc. with comma separation.
like in a label, show number 123456.78 as 123,456.78
[Bindable]
private var num:Number = 123456.78;
<mx:Label text={num} />
Obviously I could just create a function, but is there a more simple way?
how would i get a random number between 1-5 but excluding one of those numbers?
like i want to generate
1,3,4,or5
or
1,2,4,or5 etc,etc
I am trying to make a script that will count up to the designated number...if the set number was 50 then you would see all the numbers 0 through 50...and to make things even more fun I also need it to be for currency so I need a decimile point i.e.. $50.00
View 1 Replieswhat I need to do is take a value (angle) and round it to the nearest number from a pre-determined set of values (e.g - [0, 45, 90, 180...]. The purpose of this is to restrict the angle to vertical, horizontal or diagonal movement (it's for a word search).
