ActionScript 2.0 :: OnPress, OnMouseDown, OnRelease - RollOut Animations Are Not Played?
May 28, 2007
Have you ever noticed that problems arise when you use movie clips as buttons, script their functions with AS and then, rather than simply clicking on one of them, you click and hold down. The main problem is that rollOut animations are not played.
For example lets say you have 2 buttons next to each other and you click one and hold down on your mouse, then move to the next button, you'll see that both buttons now display the rollOver state.
Is there any way around this? I test this on almost every flash site I visit and only a small few seem to be able to get around it. Usually I don't mind so much because users will rarely click and hold imo, but for the site I am building at the moment I really want to finally know how to get around it. I've noticed it does the same thing no matter what event handler I use.
I have a Red Cup which is a MC and I want the Red Cup to go UP when clicked on and goes back down when you release the mouse click. I know the coding is On(press) { and On(release) { But I do not know the details.
Try to simulate the OnPress/OnRelease aspect of earlier versions. It is working so far, but when I press the space bar, it goes around once, then stops. If you check the output, it is looping back to the enter aspect, so it looks like it is not working, but it just keeps restarting. I need to make the enter frame event not work since the keypress is already down, and only work on the first time I press it.
var spacebarKeyDown:Boolean = false; stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, moveChar); function moveChar(event:Event):void{ stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, checkKeysDown); function checkKeysDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void{ [Code] .....
my code is listed below. basically, i wrote this code to generate a rectangle that surrounds the movie clip called 'SELECTED' along with a small square that appears at the bottom left corner of the new rectangle.this new rectangle + tiny square are supposed to act as resizing tool for the movie clip 'SELECTED'. hence, if i press and drag the small square, the mc SELECTED should get resized accordingly. that is happening to some extent, except that when i release the mouse button, neither the onRelease nor onReleaseOutside function gets called.
I have some script for a sliding gallery and buttons to move the images. how to change the function from onPress to onRelease so I can animate the button.
I have an mc with a button nested inside and on this button I have AS for the rollOver and rollOut to play certain frames of the mc. The problem is when I use this mc (called 'mybutton_mc') in a menu system and I want to add AS to it to navigate to different areas, ie adding onPress to this mc, it kill's the AS on the rollOver and rollOut functions of the button within.
Lets say I have attached a movieclip from the library according to an array.length and I want to assign an onPress or onRelease on these movieclips attached lets say the length of the array was 4 .. so if I want to assign onRelease to this movieclips how do I do that?
the stage I have created a button, and inside that button I have created a movie clip with 15 still frames of an animation I want played when mouse rolls over the button. As you'd expect it plays fine when the mouse does roll over and it stops on the last frame as I have typed the stop(); command.How do I get that same animation to reverse, and play backward when I roll out?
I have a set of 5 text buttons that I want to alter slightly with actionscript. An OnClip event moves the 5 text buttons onto the screen, then each button has a stop action as well as an OnPress/OnRelease that rotates it from black text to blue text and rolls back to black text again. I just need it to be black text to blue and stop when the viewer clicks the link to go to an HTML page.
How would you code it so that the text button rolls from black to blue and stays BLUE for the selected HTML page as long as the user is on it, letting them know where they are in the site's navigation. The sample code from button 1 is below:
i have some script that i am using to play an mc timeline on rollover and rewind the mc on rollout, but my problem is that i want to add an onRelease action that takes the mc to an specific frame within the mc. thing is that the onRollout action cancels out the onRelease action and rewinds the mc regardless. this is the script that i have on the first frame of the mc
I have a movieclip that shows an animation onRollOver and an animation on RollOut but onRelease the animation enlarge itselfs but now when I'll roll out when the animation isn't open (so i didn't release) the animation plays the animation for the minimizing of the animation. Here's my code (I know its a bit amateuristic but I'm not a programmer )
I need some help figuring out why my rollout is not working on this menu:I put some little close buttons at the bottom just to link them closed for now.Rollout isn't working.My code for each link is a movie clip with two frames for example links on "mens"Frame 1:
First, click on the Abaco island shape on the map. You'll see on rollOver there is a glow around the island. Now click on that island and the glow remains for the zoomed-in detailed view. When you return to map and zoom back out, the glow is removed.
Now, compare this with clicking on the island name "Abaco" from the list on the right, instead of clicking directly on the island from the map. It zooms in and shows the details fine, but the glow that should be there is not.
The reason this problem is very perplexing for me, is that the onPress action of the list button in the right column calls the onPress function of the map button. So, theoretically they should do the EXACT same thing when pushed. But clearly they don't.
Here is the code for the button from the list on the right panel:
There is more code, for example rollOver, rollOut, and Press actions for the other island buttons, but they are all of the exact same format as the Abaco island button and they all have the same problem.
So, to recap, the problem is that the list button in the right panel do not function properly onPress, even though they are calling the onPress function of the island buttons directly, and the island button onPress function works perfectly. Strangely, all but one little thing works. So it's obviously getting to the correct functions and going through the code as planned, yet that one part about the glow is being ignored or otherwise messed up.
I'm trying to make a notepad - when you hold the mouse down you can draw like a pen and when you release the mouse it stops drawing. At the moment I can just get it to update after every click.

I am playing a movie clip onMouseDown event. There are total 10 movieclips in array. I want to disable onMouseDown event while movie is playing.PHP Code:
onMouseDown = roll2; function roll2(){ shimArray = new Array("ani1", "ani2", "ani3","ani4","ani6", "ani7", "ani8","ani9","an
I'm creating an animated menu that I'd like to 'stow away' when the user clicks anywhere but the Menu button.I know this involves adding a mouse listener for an onMouseDown event, but I'm not sure what or how to define this...Is it possible to define an entire area (my site) minus a specific area (the menu button) for an onMouseDown event?
The issue is that I am making something that has many buttons, and rather making a variable that has it turn true onMouseOver (when I go over an interface object, the variable wont let the click register), making clicking not register, and then register onMouseOut (when I leave the interface object, clicking is registerable) for every single button, I rather have it auto recognize if I am actually hitting the root object like shown in my attachment.
I am trying to figure out how to make a bottom bar similar to the one seen ontions inside the bar- here's what I've got so far:as you can see I have a date/time MC inside the bar_mc which is working fine but whenever I try to have a new rollover/rollout movieclip (or button) inside the bar_mc it won't work/won't show rollover animation.
I know this question has been asked a thousand times already, but I simply can't get it to work. I've looked at various other threads posts, but none of them seem to work. Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a button (Instance name: "go") and a MC (instance name: "fader"). Now, I want the MC to fade in on rollOut and fade out on rollOut. Currently, I have this code: In frame 1 of my movie: (taken from this thread)
I've got this really weird problem. I have the following code:
[Code]....
The thing is, after I setup the onMouseDown, Anywhere I click on the screen run that function, not only the listMask movieclip! The movieclip is just a plain rectangle that was drawn by code, nothing special, no hidden graphics. Even if I don't draw anything in the movieclip, the whole screen is still clickable (as well as areas outside the screen, if we maximize the player window). This movieclip was created with .createEmptyMovieClip
The idea is that the function 'startDrawing' only has to execute when I click on the mc 'myMC' which contains a (filled) square, a sort of a drawingboard. However, it also executes when I click anywhere else in my movie.
I've got a very simple movie clip that is supposed to load an external .swf into an empty clip that gets created when you click on one of the clip instances on the stage.
[Code]....
The empty movie clip gets created (I assume), and the .swf gets loaded in, but when you click anywhere on the stage, this code gets executed, basically loading the .swf back in. It's only supposed to execute when you click on "about_mc" . What am I missing, besides a brain?
I am having problems with attaching multiple instances of the same mc, and tring to get an onMouseDown event for each of them.
The problem is that if I mousedown on one of the attached mc's, then all the attached mc's will trigger the onMouseDown event instead of only the one I clicked on.
the trace returns "onMouseDown called on 1" ...."n" instead of a single trace statement.
code:
function createSlideIcons(num){ var targetMC:MovieClip = this.form1.slideNav.slider; var spacer = 5;
