ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Preloader Works But Will Not Run The Rest Of My Flash File?
Aug 6, 2010
My Preloader works fine when I preview in Download mode BUT only loads the first frame of animation.I have attached my file- just a simple image fade ( it has a lot more images but no space here!)Here is the code in the Actions layer:
Basically I have imported .flv videos into my flash website. The actual .flv videos have been uploaded to my website so the player skin is the only thing on each page and each skin is linked to the url of the video location. Hope its making sense so far. My problem is that the first video works fine but the other 3 videos do not play...the video player skin does not even turn up. I have also uploaded the "ClearOverPlaySeekMute.swf" video skin file onto my website but still does not work..Heres the flash website (its my own portfolio). If you go onto the "Projects" page and click on Solar System and go through the pages then you will see what I mean.URL...
How do I know that my preloader is loading the rest of my file? I put a preloader on the first frame The rest of my web site is on the second frame If that takes too long to load up, I want the preloader to load. How do I know it is actually loading up the rest of the site? Or, is that not what a preloader actually does?
I made a preloader for a flash slideshow with different announcements in AS 3.0.When I export the movie to preview it everything works fine. The loading rectangle fills up and then you see the slideshow. The problem comes after I embed it in HTML. Instead of the Preloader to show all i get is a white rectangle the size of the SWF and then the slideshow begins. It's as if it was ignoring the preloader completely. I don't understand why it works when I export it but not on the actual site.
Heres my preloader script:
Code: stop(); addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, loadingInfo); function loadingInfo(e:Event):void {
I just discovered a strange thing : I have a preloader in all my swfs. All work great online and when I test the swf or the preview in html exepted 1 : the first swf to be loaded called homepage.Here is the schema of the site : HTML page is linked ( with a enter btn)to the 1st swf called Homepage. No preloader gets visible and so, the swf takes a long time to load after clicking the enter button of the html page.Note : the html page is visible until the swf is totally loaded....
I have a preloader that is about 150kB in size and it doesn't load completely until about half of my 6MB movie (yet to be optimized) loads. So by the time my preloader progress graphics come up, 50% of the whole 6MB movie is already loaded. Moreover, it's blank until 50% of the movie is loaded (the preloader just seems to wait until that point before it's graphics and actions begin)?
I have the pre-Loader in the first frame of the movie and the movie begins in the second frame. I tried using separate scenes (a preloader scene preceding a scene for the rest of the movie) and that exhibited identical behavior.
Question: Is there any way I can force my preloader to completely load and run--load progress graphics and all--before the rest of the movie starts loading?
(see code below just in case).
Also - I'm using greensock tweenlite in the preloader, would that make a difference?
PS: When I say movie, it's actually a website
PSS: I'm using MovieClip(root).loaderInfo.bytesLoaded and bytesTotal etc...
I'm in the middle of optimising a site, to which end I've constructed a preloader / welcome screen. My problem is that although the preloader apparently works (as in the bar moves and a numerical "percentage loaded" value is displayed), it only appears once the rest of the site is 80-90% loaded, i.e defeating its purpose.....?
I have a .fla file, that works with Socket class. There is a server(written in Delphi XE, but it does not matter). I connect to it from my .fla. When i execute my .fla from within Flash Professional CS5 everything works fine. But when i tried to execute resulting .swf from Explorer(Win 7, Flash Player 10) i got an error:
SecurityError: Error #2010: Local-with-filesystem SWF files are not permitted to use sockets. at flash.net::Socket/internalConnect() at flash.net::Socket/connect() at payterminal::TLogger() at
[Code].....
After all this, my .swf is still open in Flash Player with no errors, but the socket connection is not happening. I tried different crossdomain-files, but all my attempts led me to same result.
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but I've created a flash project that works fine on my computer locally. When I take it to another computer(I've tried 3-4), my keyboard events are not working. I used Actionscript 3 to create the file. I've checked to see that the other computers had the latest version of Flash player, but it's still not working on those computers. Does anyone know why my file may not be working? Is there a specific plugin/download I need to have to make my files work?
I have an activex display that is custom-built and displays video from an IP camera. However it doesnt show on all browsers. I was then adviced to use flash/actionscript to stream a jpeg that the camera drops on a remote server with ip address (just example) 80.247.23.12/container/live.jpg.
However the file name is constant. how can i use flash to stream this live jpeg and make it appear like a streaming movie. I don't know how to go about this at all.
I want to create a preloader that plays a certain amount of frames as it loads the rest of the frames. So, I have labels on the frames basically and need a preloader to play the "loading" frames as it is loading the "content" frames. Does that make sense? I have no idea how to even start this one... p.s. I am using AS 2.0, but if it can be done in 3.0 easier, I can switch over its no biggie
So I have a movie clip associated with an external class in the linkage dialog. I put that movie clip on the stage. I have another external class that contains some code (not for the movie clip but for the stage). When I access the custom properties of the class in the actual flash file (not the external code) everything works fine.For example.myMovieClip.explodeTheCode = true;works in the main movie. However, it doesn't work in the external flash file when I have a reference to that movie clip.myRefToCustomMovieclip.explodeTheCode = true fails!It throws an error. In java, I'd just import the custom class the movie clip is linked to and then I can call all the extra custom methods on the movie clip in the external class I want. However, this does nothing. I still can't access any properties.So my question is, how do I access the custom features of a movie clip (that is linked to a custom class) from an external code file. It works in the movie, but not in the external source code.
I'm doing a FB app with the Graph API in Flash. I've got everything working which consists in uploading some images created by the user in the app. The only part that I'm missing is how to tag these photos as with the Graph API it is not possible.
So I was wondering if it's possible to call a method of the REST API even though I'm using the Graph API.
I have to get Dow Jones Index using rest API in Flash. I found YahooApi, it works well on other indexes, but returns nothing on DJI. I have tested it here:[URL]Nether ^DJI nor ^DJIA returns Dow Jones index. ^NDX works well. How can I get this index too?
I am working on school project for a beginner Flash class. The code I was given in class for the preloader does not for my particular flash movie. Q #1: can you create the pre-loader within the same file as the movie (ie separate scenes)?Q #2: if yes, why wouldn't it wouldn't work for me? i was told that it doesn't for all files, but i would like to know why?Q #3: is there a way to do it through two different files with coding (the preloader file pulling up the movie file)?
I've got a Flash AS3 animation that is completely coded in an .as file. The only thing on the timeline is the background image. All of the movieclips are Exported for ActionScript in frame1. How would I go about adding a preloader into the .as file? I have tried a couple that I've found through Google but they don't seem to work as the .as file seems to be loaded instantly.
The system is a Flex application communicating with a WCF REST web service. I am trying to upload a file from the Flex application to the server and am running into some issues. I'm using a FileReference in the Flex app to browse and upload the file as defined here: [URL]. I am then receiving the file as a Stream (shows as System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher.StreamFormatter.MessageBodyStream in the debugger) in the WCF REST web service (using project type of WCF 4 REST Service)
[WebInvoke(Method = "POST", UriTemplate = "_test/upload")] public void UploadImage(Stream data) { // TODO: just hardcode filename for now var filepath = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath(@"~\_testfile.txt"); using (Stream file = File.OpenWrite(filepath)){ [Code] .....
I know how to setup a preloader and I have that working. But when I debug the flash application and simulate a download, it has a blank background until a few seconds have passed. I know it is "downloading" the swf file and I'm wondering if I can show a progress bar for that, or do I need to have the swf file as small as possible and pre load everything needed and have all assets as a separate file I fetch? I found something with ProgressEvent.PROGRESS but this only loads after the flash file is finished downloading.
i have an index.fla page and will be about 10 .swf files to load into it, they will be large videos witch need pre loading. I have read lots of threads all over the place and have tryed lots of ways.The simplest way i have found so far works but gives me the error :
TypeError: Error #1006: value is not a function. at MethodInfo-8()
after i have loaded the 1st vid intro witch then using a dispatchEvent(new Event("allDone", true));realays the info to the index file and loads the movie but the percent timer stops working and gives the error above. I have the following code
I have another preloader question to go on pile with all the others.I have various preloader scripts that I have used in the past, but for some reason with the flash file I'm working on, they don't work. sort of.Basically I have a flash file that dynamically creates a majority of the movieClips through AS (not sure if this makes a difference). Then images are pulled out of the library and into the movieClips. This makes my swf size approximately 4.9mb. So I need a preloader.When I go to simulate the download, I don't see the preloader. The preloader shows up for a second after the loading is done and the movie starts.
I have a preloader.swf that loads another swf (main.swf). It all works fine, however I would like the loading bar to stay on 100 (once it gets there) for 2-3 seconds before the main.swf opens, currently as expected from the code below, as soon as it gets to 100% it flicks straight over to the main.swf.
I am using tweener, and I could achieve this easily using the onComplete code to call this.addChild(loader);, however, the problem is, both my preloader and my main swf are liquid layouts, and if I were to call the this.addChild(loader); at the end in its own function, then it throws a
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
. The only way to get around this error is to put the this.addChild(loader); so that it loads upfront. After a bit of google research, i found this error occurs due to the stage properties already been set in the preloader.swf (from liquid layout)then once the main.swf loads it tries to set them again...So is there another way i can cause a delay for 2-3 seconds once my preloader hits 100?
Below is my preloader code with liquid layout settings
1. using my tweener onComplete method and fixing the error caused by preexisting stage properties
2. Thinking of an alternate way to delay the main.swf from opening straight away (keeping in mind that this.addChild(loader); would need to stay where it is...
PS - here is a link to a person who was getting the #1009 error with preloader and liquid layout, their solution works, but won't allow me to use a tweener delay...[URL]
And I'm using the multipart parser from here: http://antscode.blogspot.com/2009/11/parsing-multipart-form-data-in-wcf.html.My issue is that the above works great for some files (.bat, .txt, .cs, .doc) - I see in Fiddler all the good signs including the 200 (OK) status. When I try to upload other files (.xls, .vsd), it fails with a 400 (Bad Request) status. I'm very surprised that a .doc would work and a .xls and .vsd would fail.
It is consistent as well. I've uploaded several .doc files successfully without any failures. I've also tried to upload several .xls files - some succeed, some fail (the successes are consistent over and over, the failures are consistent over and over). As I write this and test more and more files, there is a .pdf file that consistently produces a 504 (Fiddler - Receive Failure) error.
FYI, I am using Flex on the client and using the FileReference class to do the uploads. The Flex code is as standard as they come - using this code with the only change being the WCF REST URL: http:[url].....
I have two Flash files: pre-loader and application.
Pre-loader: (D:ProjectsFlashAppsddedd.fla) is doing basically this: var mRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://localhost/flash/dd.swf"); mLoader.load(mRequest); }
Application file: (D:ProjectsFlashAppsdddd.fla) is the real application and among other things is doing this:
The application must be loaded by the pre-loader, it won't start when called directly. But apparently, the security settings are preventing such duo from being possible to debug. Normally when it is on a remote server, it is working ok.
What I have done so far to resolve it:
Added crossdomain.xml to my local i:xampphtdocs folder:
> <?xml version="1.0"?> > <!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM "http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
[Code]....
Set File > Publish Settings -> Local Playback Security -> "Use local files only" in both files. It didn't work, so I set it to "Use network only" Also didn't work.
What else can be done to be able to debug these Flash files locally?
I have an AS3 .fla that loads an external XML file of image names, and then iteratively loads the images into the .fla. All this works great. What I want is to create a preloader that is aware of the size of all these external images. As far as I can tell there's no way to do this, but I'm hoping someone here is smarter than I am.
I tried Lee Brimelow's method of having a separate SWF whose only job is to load another SWF in its place. This doesn't work because the preloader's call to .bytesTotal only reads the bytes of the main SWF, not of the external XML or JPGs that are dynamically loaded into it. So the result is the preloader reaches 100% when the main SWF is loaded, but that happens really quickly and the bulk of the load time comes after the 100% mark, when the main SWF starts loading in images.
The more I think about this, the more it seems that you can never access the .bytesTotal property until you've already instantiated the loader and called the .load() method. Am I wrong? Is there a way to fetch just the SIZE of an external file without actually initiating the act of loading the file into memory?
I have a function that uses the ... rest argument as follows:
public function dispatchActions(... actions):void { var params:Object = new Object(); params.actions = actions; // I also tried casting ie. = (actions as Array) this.target.dispatchEvent(new ActionEvent(ActionEvent.dispatchActions, params)); }
I call it using myActionObject.dispatchActions("all"); The problem is that when a listener receives the dispatched params object and try to access the actions array, it does nothing. If I try to trace evt.params.actions it traces blank and if I try to trace evt.params.actions[0] it traces undefined.
ex:
function actionsListener(evt:ActionEvent):void { var actions:Array = (evt.params.actions) as Array; // I also tried without casting trace("actions", actions, "actions 0", actions[0], "action 1", actions[1]); }
This is the output: actions actions 0 undefined actions 1 undefinedI don't understand why I can't pass the ... rest argument through an object as an event parameter. How can I make this work?
