ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Attach Variable To MovieClip Using Class
Apr 29, 2011
I want to "attach" a variable to a movieclip, do I need to create the movieclip in the class file? What I have is a movieclip in the library that is placed on stage multiple times. What I would like to do is have a class that when one of the movieclips is clicked, will add a variable to that particular instance of the movieclip.
I know it is possible to attach a class to a movieclip that exists in the library by checking 'Export for ActionScript' and specifying an 'AS 2.0 class' for that symbol.
I would really like to know if it's also possible to attach a class to a movieclip that was created by using the 'createEmptyMovieClip' method.

I believe this should be a very simple fix, but I cannot for the life of me get this working, and i've been playing with it all day. Basically I am trying to start working with classes, I want to attach a movieclip to a flash movie, from my class [its for a card game style thing]. But when I attach a movie clip, it does not appear on the screen,. It exists, I can trace its .x position etc.
Code: Select allpackage arrayTrial{ import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.Event; import flash.display.MovieClip; public class Deck extends MovieClip{ private var totalCards = -1; [Code] .....

I have a document with main class.I also have some movieclips which have their own class and functions.I am trying to pass a variable from my main class to one of these MovieClips.I tried some stuff, nothing worked.
I need to pass a variable value contained within a MovieClip to my class file. The MovieClip is my preloader, to which my code will show that upon the initial launch of the SWF. Until the variable is sent, my code assumes the preloader is still running and therefore will not progress. Originally, it was working when I had my class file extend MovieClip and then used this code in the preloader MC:
I have a class definition as file. In it a variable gets passed to into a function (parameters). Then I want to use the name of this function to swapDepths with another movieclip.
Code: private function alphaZero(clipToSwap) { trace(clipToSwap+"+clipToSwap");
I'm not an experienced Actionscript user so I'm not sure what the normal way to associate a custom class with a movieclip that has been designed in the Flash IDE is. I made a class called Window to control a movieclip called TestWindow. There are some buttons in the movieclip whose functionality I would like to assign the instance of class Window. How is this supposed to be done? Here's a representation of what I mean. I hope it is sort of clear. My actual problem is that the local variables are outside the scope of the onPress function but I also think there must be some other way of associating classes with movieclips that have been designed in the IDE.
I am making a site and have a component on the stage that is put there dynamicly through AS 2.0. When I F5 or Ctrl F5 it seems that the actionscript is read allover again?Only the script that is situated in the specific label. What if I have script in that label that creates a news reader. I f12 and the news reader is there I jump to another label with the menu. when i jump back to the home label the news reader does not appear on the stage. after a f5 or ctrl f5 it does.Do I have to attach the movieClip in each label to assure a the dynm-movieClip script is on stage for the ctrl f5 issue?
Im trying to create an inventory where when you click an object it will automaticly go into your inventory, the inventory is embedded in other movieclips.I have quite a few spaces(movieclips) in the inventory box when it is open but I just need it so when you click an object it attaches to a movieclip in the inventory.I also need it so that if you click a different item it attaches to the next space in the inventory rather than overlapping an item you have clicked before. I would only have only about 15 (or something similar) spaces so if I have clicked 16 items the 16th item cannot go into the inventory.
A can't seem to get this creating movieclip thing, or attach movieclip. What I want is when a certain button is pressed, a MC in the library is created on the work area, at the mouse location and will continue to follow the mouse untill it is clicked. Once clicked, it stops dragging, but if clicked again, another MC on the screen will gotoAndStop(2); and so on. I have most of the script idea down. But I can't seem to get the create new MC to work.
I have a movieClip named MC, and it's enabled with action script, with the class name MC_Rectangle and a Stage.I override the MC_Rectangle class file in a mc_rectangle.as external file.here is the code:
1. how can i access the variable "sequence" in "mc_rect"
2. how can i pass parametre from main stage to mc_rect via function setSequence(data:int)?
3. how can i call the function in addSequence() in mc_rect.
in asp.net, i usually use mc_rect.sequenct,mc_rect.setSequence(data), mc_rect.addSequence() to achieve my goals......btw, can function in mc_rect return out result to main stage?
All I need to know is how to set the idName to attach in attachMovie to the value of a variable?The linkages are fine, the problem is just being able to specify a different clip to load depending on what a certain variable is set to.I don't have the FLA with me right now..OK, say I have a variable with the string, '00'. When this code runs, I want it to load the clip with the linkage, '00'. Say the variable's string changes to '-10'. Then when the code runs, it should load the clip with the linkage '-10'.If this isn't possible, or there is a better way...I'm working on a game. I want it to attach a different level to the stage depending on what value a 2 variables are, but I keep getting Type Mismatch, or it doesn't work.[code]The current linkages are 00 (0x, 0y), and -10 (-1x, 0y). They are comprised of 2 variables, the first one is xmap, and the second is ymap. I want to be able to combine the 2 variables and then attach the clip with that linkage to the stage..
I'm trying to use attachMovie to attach a movieclip to another movieclip. Both the movieclips are set up as buttons (ie. they have _up, _over, _down, _hit states). The problem is if I define event handlers for both mcs, only the event handler on the parent clip works.
How do I attach a Movieclip to another movieclip then use it as a hitzone?
I want to attach mEnemyIdle to a movieclip from a class which I am call this. I want the movieclip to update its _x _y _rotation based of its parent and I want to use it as a hitzone for this.
I have a mc (changeColorMc) and three movieclips. The three movieclips are created on the fly (so there could be more movieclips) and filled with a color from an Array. This works fine.
Now I want to add an eventlistener for each movieclip, so when someone push one of the movieclips the movieclip with the name "changeColorMc" gets that same color from the colorArray.
My question is: How can I pass the color value from the colorArray to the buttonPressed function? Is this possible?
I was also thinking that I had to create three buttonPressed functions ie. buttonPressed1, buttonPressed2 and buttonPressed3 and attach these to the created movieclips.. but how? Because I don't know up front how many movieclips there will be..
how to atach my duplicated movieclip into another movieclip?
example, i have this cart and i'm going to buy an item. i can duplicate the item and put it in the cart. if i move the cart, the item is still insdie the cart...
I have built this small tail type graphic to follow a motion path. Its slowing down after a while, I think im cleaning up things but it stats to chug.I loop round and take a draw snapshot so im not duplicating clips, there should only ever be 10 sprites at a time in the display object container. I have attached the package if anyone fancies a challenge,Unable to upload the package so I attach the main class.[code]we have frame x in the bitmap capture - we want to make sure it only has one frame of a dot insode the capture so it needs hiding before we take another frame.[code]
I'm working on a background music class and found that you cannot use the Sound class in a class file. Specifically, initiating and attaching the sound. Starting, stopping, getting the duration and such seem acceptable (though I haven't tested this yet). I've done a few searches and haven't found any work arounds other than when the class is called, hand it the sound object with the sound already attached, like this:
ActionScript Code: import bgMusicClass; var bgSnd:Sound = new Sound(this); bgSnd.attachSnd("newWave.mp3"); var bgMusic = new bgMusicClass(bgSnd);
