ActionScript 3.0 :: Stop Mouse Events In Lower Sprites?

Aug 7, 2009

When I put a sprite over top of another sprite, the lower sprite still gets the mouse events.

I'm sure there must just be a method that I don't know about. How do I tell AS to only raise events for the top sprites?

Flash At Lower Z Level Masks Mouse Events?

Sep 14, 2009

I have a web site with an intro movie playing in the page's header.

The SWF playing the FLV with sound is in a division that is placed at a lower Z level. On top of the SWF, at a higher Z level, is a png image of my header containing an oval transparent window. This image acts as a skin sitting on top of my movie. The movie and sound play inside the oval window fine. I have other reasons for this approach as opposed to integrating the whole header image into the SWF.

The issue is I have no mouse control over the SWF because it is at a lower Z level. The mouse events are blocked by the transparent image window that sits on top.

I want to add a sound volume control to my movie. The control can sit either inside the oval area, or outside somewhere else on the page.

I would prefer to control the volume using another SWF that sits at the normal Z level where the mouse can work. Can one SWF control another?

Other alternatives might be to use Javascript, or even HTML image tags to control my SWF.

Actionscript 3 :: Receiving Mouse Events For Lower Indexed And Partially Covered Display Objects?

Mar 9, 2010

i have 2 sprites on stage. bottomSprite is added to the display list first, followed by topSprite. topSprite partially covers bottomSprite.i've added an event listener to bottomSprite for MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVED notifications to simply trace the mouseX and mouseY coordinates. however, the notification doesn't work for the parts of bottomSprite that are covered by topSprite.

var bottomSprite:Sprite = new Sprite();
bottomSprite.graphics.beginFill(0x666666, 0.5);
bottomSprite.graphics.drawRect(150,150, 150, 150);
bottomSprite.graphics.endFill();

Actionscript 3 :: No Hand Cursor Or Mouse Events On Sprites In Flash Player 10?

Jan 11, 2012

My movie targets flash player 10, and I compile it with FlexSDK v 4.51. It compiles and plays with no errors. But if I view the swf in Flash Player 10, some sprites that are set to buttonmode do not show a hand cursor or dispatch MouseEvents. In fact, if I play it in the Flash Player 10 debug player, I get an error:

"VerifyError: Error #1053: Illegal override of z in mx.core.BitmapAsset."

So to fix this, I can switch to using an older SDK, version 4.1. Now the error message is gone, but the mouseover problem persists - now for Flash Player version 10 and 11.

There are no flash 11 specific features used. It should be targetable using flash player 10.

I have determined that the mouse event and the override error are not related. The mouse event error seems to being caused by using filters. and I have found a workaround, by applying the filter to a child object, instead of the parent.

The error thrown above, is getting caused by an embedded bitmap. And it seems like a fix to that is to use flex SDK 4.1. Any reason not to just use the 4.1 SDK? Any way to make 4.5 sdk compatible with Flash player 10?

The map.swf turns your mouse to a hand cursor so you can pan when you zoom in on it.Eveb though the map file is behind my nav file,when I roll over my nav file, the mouse is still turning to a hand cursor. Is there any way around this? The only time it turns to an actually pointer is when it rolls over the actual buttons on the nav file, so the mouse flickers back and forth between the hand and the pointer.How can I get the lower .swf to not effect the .swf on top?

By the way am using actionscript3 to implement the app.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Mixing Stage Mouse Events And Children Events?

Sep 30, 2009

I have an animation that I want to start when clicking on the flash window. However, I've also have some buttons on the stage. If I add an event listener for MouseEvent.CLICK on the stage, then it 'eats up' the events and the buttons don't work.

I've tried some tricks, by adding some invisible buttons on top of the real ones, and use the MOUSE_OVER event to selectively enable/disable the mouseEnabled flag for the stage, but didn't work because it complains that the property or method doesn't exist (which I find odd).

ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Stop Blending / Smoothing On Edges Of Sprites

Nov 21, 2011

When I draw a perfectly rectangular sprite, where all the corners land on perfect integer locations, then there is no problem. However when my sprite as an irregular shape ( with diagonal lines ), or it does not land on perfect integer locations, then Flash does some kind of blending / smoothing around the edges. This is bad.

Here is an example:
ActionScript Code:
var s:Shape;
s= new Shape();
s.graphics.beginFill(0x0000ff, 1);
s.graphics.moveTo(0, 0);
[Code] .....

And here is an image of what the above produces:
From the code, I drew a green rectangle and blue one, both with a slight skew. So the only 2 colors I want to see are blue and green. But you can see from the image, that along the diagonal of the shapes, there is some kind of blending going on. Flash is using a light green, and a light blue in certain places. Presumably this makes things look better, but I need to prevent this. I need each pixel to be either green or blue or nothing (white). How can I stop Flash from blending the pixels like its doing?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flickering Sprites On Mouse Over?

Sep 9, 2011

I wanted to pass on an experience that I had in the hopes that nobody else will have a late night like I had last night. I'm working on a flex app and in part of it I have a loader that loads a SWF vector image and adds it as a child to a sprite. No event listeners were added to either the sprite or the loader, but other children at the same level as the sprite and nowhere near the location of the sprite had event listeners. No big deal, right?

I started to notice that if I loaded the image from my local drive, it was fine but as soon as I loaded it from a remote source, it would flicker as soon as my mouse hovered over it.Again, no event listeners were applied to either of these two items.I figured out that even though there were no event listeners, the loader was stealing the MOUSE_OVER which was causing a seemingly unrelated event listener to fire, thus moving sprites and causing the flickering.The solution that I found was to forcibly add a mouseChildren = false to the parent sprite and POOF! No more flickering.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Mouse Events Fail To Trigger If Mouse Move Too Fast?

Nov 18, 2009

It has been awhile since I have worked in flash.Right now I am working on something where I would like a panel to disappear when someone mouses off the stage.stage.addEventListener(Event.MOUSE_LEAVE, leaveHandler); It usually works fine but if I move my mouse really fast it doesn't fire. I have also tried the same thing using a custom invisible button that surounds the perimeter of the stage and I have tried ROLL_OVER and MOUSE_OVERand again, if I do it too fast my event doesn't fire (I am using trace)I can't find anything on the net about this - is this typical of flash that if you move your mouse too fast you break it? Do I need to increase my frame rate (I would really rather not because I have perfectly timed animations - I am at 30 frames per second)

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamic Sprites With Perspective Lose Mouse Event Functionality?

Oct 20, 2009

I really don't need happening after spending a week figuring out why some code didn't work, only to rewrite it and have it suddenly start working. I guess it's the classic case of running into more, more serious problems right after making an extremely good breakthrough!.Anyways, my problem is that my dynamically drawn sprites with the PerspectiveProjection property set on each, all of which are contained in a movieclip (which is at stage-level), no longer have MouseEvent functionality - at this point, I think anything past regular Events no longer work, but my stack of important issues eats up all time I have to test.

Before I started having issues, I was using just a scale effect to simulate the 3D-ness of the movie. After figuring out why past attempts at using Z axis on these sprites failed, I decided to add the perspective part to the transforming of each of these sprites. Ever since then, Mouse functionality just simply does not work. No errors are thrown, no runtime errors are displayed, yet the trace function does NOT work within the functions (meaning it isn't the content of the function not working) - simply does not want to do anything!Other animations and such work perfectly fine - i.e. tweening the X, and Y values, etc

Actionscript 3 :: Android - Attach Mouse Event Listeners To The Stage Or To Individual Sprites?

Aug 16, 2011

In AS3 on Android is it bad from a performance perspective to attach mouse event listeners to individual sprites rather than to the stage? I am writing an app for an Android phone using AS3 in Flash Builder. The app has multiple screens that respond to user touch. The screens are arranged in a hierarchy and show list data so that when you click on an item in a list you are presented with a new screen with a new sub list on it.

I have been using an event listener to detect mouse / touch input and based on something I read that indicated that performance is much better if you keep the number of objects you are listening to to a minimum I have attached the mouse listeners from each screen to the stage object.

This all works fine but I am finding that as I move between screens (and they get popped or pushed onto the dislay stack) I have to keep track of alot of adding and removing listeners to the stage object. If I don't then windows higher up the hierarchy than the current screen keep receiving mouse events.

If I used listeners attached to sprites in each window then when the window was removed from the display even though it is kept in memory (ready to be popped back when a child window is closed) it won't receive any mouse events....

Performance doesn't seem to be impacted using listeners directly on sprites when using my HTC phone to test with, however I obviously don't know what it will be like on other phones. Does anyone have any experience either way or a view on the best approach?
