ActionScript 3.0 :: Targeting Dynamically Created Nested Movieclips?

I'm dynamically creating movieclips with dynamically created movieclips inside them and am having trouble with targeting them.

Below is a simplified example of what I'm trying to achieve, in the real file there are a lot more movieclips and I'm creating and naming them with a for loop.

This one is just one Sprite created inside another sprite. I can target the top level sprite named "testname". However when i try target the nested MC it throws an error.

The bottom couple of traces are just test MCs I've made to make sure i got the syntax right, on targeting nested movieclips.

PHP Code:

ActionScript 2.0 :: Targeting A Movie Clip Created With XML Information?

Jan 27, 2005

I am having trouble targeting a movie clip that was dynamically generated from information in an XML document. Basically, what I want to do is be able to manipulate the movie clip after it was generated by the initial function. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to properly target the clip even though I am pretty sure I have the proper title and location (tried both _root. and _level0.).[URL]the string at the bottom - "_level0.mc_image2" - is the name of the last movie clip (with an image inside) to the right.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Targeting Mess - Blank Movie Clip Created In The Preloader Swf

Jan 1, 2004

I have a looped sound and some components in my main movie (scroll bar) which for some reason is really bogging down my swf and causing the preloader bar not to show up until like 46% or something ridiculous.

So I am trying to solve the problem by having a preloader swf as suggested by Kode in this thread. However, now all my targeting is messed up in my main movie. Everything that was _root has to change but I can't tell what to load it into. I tried using _parent, _parent._parent, _root.container_mc (which is a blank movie clip created in the preloader swf that main is loaded into after the preloader is 100%) and others but nothing works. Even the simple looped sound which was originally just _root.backsound.start(0,999) can't be targeted. how to target things on my main stage based on the preloader swf?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Targeting Code Placed Movieclips?

Oct 14, 2010

I am still sorting out how things translate to AS3 so here it goes:

In the land of AS2:

Say you for looped 5 times and placed movieclips on the stage (attachMovieClip) each one having an mc inside called box_mc. You named them in the loop mc_1, mc_2, mc_3, mc_4, mc_5.Then later you wanted to rotate that box in them you could for loop again and target/rotate the box with a line like this:

this["mc_"+i].box_mc.rotation +=5;

Now in the land of AS3:I place 5 movieclips using addChild and the way I later target the box_mc inside them is to use two lines something like this:

[code]...

I know this method works, but is this the most efficient/correct way of doing this? I tried to get to the box_mc level when assigning the targetMc var, but never found a way that didn't error.Compounding question, how do you make an old line of AS2 work in the AS3 world like this:

this["mc_"+i]["child_mc_"+j].box_mc.rotation +=5;

ActionScript 3.0 :: Targeting Nested MovieClips Outside Of Scope

Oct 12, 2009

I have a movieclip added to the stage through a function.
ActionScript Code:
function myFunctionOne():void{
var myClipA:clipA = new clipA();
myClipA.name = "myClipA";
addChild(myClipA);
}

To access this item on the stage I have to use:
ActionScript Code:
getChildByName("myClipA");
I have some other movieclips INSIDE this clip that have also been dynamically added. If I want to reference one of those clips I have to reference them by name using getChildByName.
[Code].....
But is there a better way to reference movieclips if they are created inside a function, or is there a way to create them so they are always globally accessible?

ActionScript 3.0 :: How To RemoveChild Created MovieClips

Oct 10, 2011

Here is my code in creating the clips: box_type1 is a library movieclip. I already imported it to my document class. That is working.

ActionScript Code:
for(var i:uint=0; i<3; i++) {
var Boxes:MovieClip=new box_type1();
Boxes.x=i * 80;
Boxes.y=i * 50;
Boxes.width=27;
Boxes.height=27;
Boxes.name="Boxes"+i;
addChild(Boxes);
}

Now how could I removeChild a specific Boxes? Like the Boxes with a name of Boxes0? Or my creation of multiple moviclips is wrong? BTW That works. It creates 3movieclips.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Removing The Created Movieclips?

Jul 8, 2009

[URL]I've managed to get it all working though am having trouble extending it more. Basically I've got it set up so that when the used click on another button it loads another xml, basically going to another gallery.It works fine apart from the fact that when i change the gallery, if the previous one has more photos then they are left over in the thumbnails of the new one. So basically what i need to do is remove the created movie clips, when i click on a button then load the new xml file. I can get them using the following code, added onto the end of the tutorial:

Code:
image_mcl = new MovieClipLoader();
image_mcl.addListener(tlistener);
image_mcl.loadClip(thumbnails[k],"thumbnail_mc.t"+k);

[code]....

Obviously this isn't what I want as it removes them just after they are created, i was just trying to figure out how to remove them! I've made this function global etc and had buttons use the function but it still wont remove them!The Full path to the created clips is contentHold.content2.gallery.thumbnail_mc.t[i], where i is the numer of photos in the gallery.I created another movie clip within the thumbnail_mc clip and could manipulte that so i'm guessing it has something to do with them being created dynamically?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Created Vs Static Movieclips?

Feb 4, 2009

Movieclips created on the stage and instanced behave differently from dynamic movieclips in that they are destroyed when you go to the next frame (I have a stop on every frame). If I create that same movieclip dynamically then it will stay on the stage forever regardless if I go to the next frame or not. I understand that it needs to be removed from the display list but I can't find any event that is fired on a next frame basis. I could use onEnterFrame but at 30 fps, that's alot of overhead. The idea is to have all the code contained in my .as file.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Removing Movieclips Created At Runtime?

Mar 9, 2009

I'm trying to remove movieclips created at run time using "createEmptyMovieClip" but I'm having a problem calling the "removeMovieClip" function. The difficulty seems to be that the string that I assign as the instance name of the new movie clip doesn't actually refer to the created clip when I try to call"removeMovieClip".

So the "removeMovieClip" function doesn't work if the target name is pulled from the array. My guess is that this has something to do with the values of the array being strings...and it does when I manually type Apple.removeMovieClip(); in because Apple is the movieclip object name. How do call the "removeMovieClip"function using a var as the target?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing Dynamically Created Movieclips

Nov 21, 2008

I have an application that I am adding movieclips to a container movieclip through a for loop and repeatedly calling myClip.addChild(theNewClip). Now I have a dozen clips in my container and it seems like the only way to access the clip is to use the getChildByName() method and cast it into a temporary clip so I can get at the its properties.

Is this the best and/or only way to do this? Does the old AS2 myContainer["theName"].property not work with dynamically created movieclips? It doesn't seem to work for me anymore.
