ActionScript 3.0 :: Trigger Animation And Playhead By Rollover?
Sep 8, 2011
I have 2 simple MCs I am trying to control via rolling over the actual animation itself, not a separate button.
Here's the catch though: In one MC the animation is up and down, the other, left to right. I need the user to be able to not only trigger the animation by rolling over it, BUT, control the up and down/left to right action.
When they move the cursor up and down, the animation follows... you get the idea.
Can this be done with an invisible button covering and on top of the animation?

I am in the final stages of building my new web site: http:[url]....On most of the pages in the portfolio there is a video "Commentary" link (top right corner).Each of the commentaries are flv called up by f.ex:
myMCL.loadClip("http:url.....);
Once the video is done playing, it fades to black.I would really like the flv to trigger an event to send the playhead to another frame and load another swf.I could use a pause command and let the main time line pause so many milliseconds and then proceed, but it is probably not consistent how long it takes each viewer to download the video and watch it.

Okay, now things are getting a little complicated. I need to build a Flash object that can sit over the corner of an image to serve extra content. It's way beyond my Flash skill level, my work is usually limited to print work in Photoshop and Illustrator so please excuse me if any of the following isn't clear. I am trying to learn though, So this is how it's all supposed to work, along with my issues; When the image & Flash item load a small looping animation will play to draw the eye/show the item as interactive.
When the user rolls over this the corner will peelback. I have a working peelback animation for the rollover, that reacts to mouse over/mouse off, and a looping animation for the initial, but I cannot work out how to make the initial loop until mouseover, then play the peelback when the mouse is over. And go back to the initial animation loop if the user rolls off. (Each of these animations is stored as a movie clip in the Library)
Then it gets more complicated... if the user stays on the corner until it is fully peeled back I need to make a small countdown (sort of a 3, 2, 1 situation) show, before launching a lightbox (would this have to be jQuery, or could it be done in Flash?) in the browser to serve the content.

I want to rollover a button and have it trigger the rollover state of another button. The buttons overlap. The one on top is transparent and smaller than the bottom button. So far I think I have the AS3 to handle the rollover of the top button, but I don't know how to trigger the other button's rollover state.

workcatagoryall_mc.buttonMode = true;

A friend of mine asked me to build a web site. Since I am a graphic illustrator and that I know a lot of After Effects, he tought that that would be easy for me building his site.Well, here I am, stuck with this flash problem (I am a nuke in actionScript). The guy wants an interactive map of the best country in the world, that is, Canada.When the users mouse hovers a province, a little rollover/rollout animation plays. Actually, it took me about three weeks to make it work, but it works.Now, this is wheretrying to figure out how to trigger a movieclip with a rollover/rollout button. When the users mouse hovers an important city (in this example, Ottawa, Ontario), on rollover, it should play the movieclip box_mc up to frame 40 and on rollout, play the rest of the movieclip

I am using the Button component (the one shipped with CS3) inmany places in my AS3 project. I am coding in .as files, not on thetimeline.I have skinned the Button to use the colors I like. Now Iwish to "skin" it so that all instances generate a rollOver sound,and I'll be darned if I can figure out how.I know I can listen for ROLL_OVER events in each Buttoninstance. But I have many many Buttons and it seems kludgy to addthat same code to every class I have which tracks a Button. I amhoping there is some way I can make *all* instances of Buttonrespond to rollOver the same way. I am hoping it is likesetComponentStyle or changing the skin for the Button; I can do itin one place and it works everywhere.I guess I can listen on the Stage level for bubble-ups ofROLL_OVER, trap those that come from Button instances, and handleit from there, but stagewide listeners also seem a tad kludgy

I created a button that has a movieclip in the rollover state. When you rollover the mouse, the movieclip will animate to appear as if the button will scale from a small to a large button even though it is the movieclip that is playing and not the button itself. But I also want to add a keyboard code to play the rollover instead of the mouse. I learned to write actionscript to play different scenes with the code below, but I'm not sure if I can play a button rollover with the same code.
stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, key_pressed);
function key_pressed(event:KeyboardEvent):void {
if (event.charCode==49) {
gotoAndPlay(1,"scene");
}

A website I am developing will have a small animation (say 5-10 seconds minor effect) on the logo at the top of the screen. The logo looks static but when you hover your mouse over it, the animation is played. (This is achieved using the 'button' symbol as the animation within flash).
The client now wants the website's plain text navigation, when hovered over, to trigger the animation to play again. I am a very BASIC user as flash but I believe it is possible to send a javascript call to the swf (i.e. each navigation link will include a "onmouseover=' restartFlashAnimation()'"where I need to define that js function) ...and the swf will recognise the function call and then replay the animation.

I have a 13 frame animation that I am loading in a hidden <div>. Does anyone know how I can trigger it to start playing when the div is made visible and then hide the div when its finished playing? Currently it loops in the background, which is no good as I want to use it as a page transition. Play once, hide, new page shown.

I have a virtual keyboard on screen, with SimpleButtons for each of the keyboard keys. In addition to using the on-screen keyboard, I want to allow for physical keyboard input as well.
Everything works, but I am looking for a way to trigger the rollover/down/up animation of the SimpleButton if the user uses the keyboard. Is this possible? I'm already capturing the keystroke info and matching it against the SimpleButton, but I don't know how to get the button to play.

I have a bunch of buttons each one with a roll over on it that trigger an animation. So far no problem. The problem is that as I would like to add to the buttons a behaviour like this: if you roll over the button more than 200ms the animation happens else nothing happen.
Here is my code:
tab01_mc.buttonMode = true;
tab01_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, rollOverTab, false, 0, true); //this is one of the buttons
function rollOverTab (event:MouseEvent):void{
getTimer();
var delayTime:int = getTimer();
trace(delayTime);
if (delayTime >= 200){
event.target.gotoAndPlay("Over"); // over is the animation of the button
}}
But this isn't working because what getTimer actually does is return the time since the whole movie started not since the function star running. So my question is: is the a way to tell AS to start counting from 0 so that I can use the elapsed time as my condition to trigger the animation?

I have a cube and the buttons are meant to trigger an animation to view the different sides of the cube. For optimising and swf hosting sake I want to use one animation on the frames of the timeline but for multiple buttons. e.g. button 1 goes to the start of the animation, then at the end, the action goes to the frame 2. if button 2 was pressed to go to the start of the same animation then at the end, the action goes to frame 3 etc. Does anyone have any thoughts on how this should be done?

I have a sliding menu at the bottom of my screen. When you mouse over the menu it pops up and as it does it triggers an animation of a moving object. The moving object starts "off screen", comes sliding in and comes to a rest in the middle of the menu. The object has buttons on it. What I'd like to do is when a user clicks the button it loads content onto the main stage. Then either after clicking the button or mousing off the menu the object animation will continue on it's merry way out of view (off the menu).
Everything works great except I can't get the button to work! I'm thinking it's a path issue since I've done lots of buttons. So the button is now here:
_root.slidingNav.animationMC.object.button
And I've got the AS on the button:
on (release) {
_root.slidingNav.animation.gotoAndPlay(31);}
Is the button so buried that it's clicking options aren't available?

im making a button and on the rollover animation I want to have it splatter paint, only thing is I dont know how to get an image into flash that doesnt look crappy. I know that I need a vector image, but im not familiar with vectors as I usually use photoshop. I tried using a photoshop brush image, a simple paint splatter in which I was just going to tween to a larger splatter but like I said the image looks blurred because itsa bitmap.
another newbie question, but when you make an animated button, is the background included in the animation? Like lets say I import a button, give it an animation to glow on rollover or something, if i went to use that .swf would the background that it was placed on show? or would it just be the animation that shows on the default web browser background.

This is a project I am working on for my job's website. When you rollover the red dots I want the wave animation to play but I also want words to come up in the blue bar describing the location of that specific dot (e.g. Singapore), but I dont want the wave animation itself to have rollover because that causes problems. Right now the "dot" button has a "hit" area that plays the wave movieclip so the wave doesnt have a rollover property. I tried just adding another rollover property to the whole "dot" movieclip that would display the descriptions, but that made it where the wave mc wouldnt play on rollover. I also want the wave to play out in its entirety, not disappear as soon as you rollout.

I am a complete novice in Flash and action scripting, but i'm trying to create a button for a website that simply fades in on roll over and fades out on roll off. I've successfully managed to make the roll over effect work, but i'm struggling to figure out how to reverse the animation on roll off.

I created a little news viewer, that when you roll over a button it plays an animation. The problem I am having is:if the mouse moves over the button (the animation starts)
then if the mouse moves off the button and then back over the button before the animation is over the animation snaps back to the first frame.Is there a way to tell flash to ignore this Double rollover until the animation is finished?
