ActionScript 3.0 :: Buttons And Events - Only Recognizing The Code When The Clip Is On The First Frame?

have button listener code on main timeline: Code: endPanel.playAgain.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playAgain); which lets my button within a clip call a function (function is on main timeline as well) later, that clip advances through its frames and the button seems to be losing it's listener code. the button still has the same instance name and is persistent throughout the clip. why is it only recognizing the code when the clip is on the first frame? You would assume that an instance name would retain it's listener code throughout the timeline no?
i've tried placing the code in the actions pnel of the mc; on the mc at the main time line and in various other unspeakable places... but i always get the same error warning me that this code can only be used in movieclip instances and that my stupidity levels are reaching dangerous levels. (error: 'Symbol=stage_mc, Layer=actions, Frame=1: Line 5: Clip events are permitted only for movie clip instances

i fear somebody will reply to this with:'the code goes on the movieclip instance'...at which point i will take up a career in knitting (i knew i shouldn't have given up the course in the first place)
Now I'm working on a Website which contains a XML Carousel Gallery, with the coding below.Now this all happens on the homepage. I would like to stop the xml on other frames though. Is there any coding I can use on my Buttons, to stop the XML working while going to another frame?

I have three animated buttonMc's with code like this on them..

Currently If I want to add five more buttons the code must be duplicated for each buttonMC and this seems really inefficient. This is the only way I have been able to make everything work though.
I have built a couple of sites in Flash, however, I have a problem with a current site I'm working on. My client wants various photos to fade out in a "checkerboard" fashion, which I am doing via its own movie clip and adding in the appropriate area on the main timeline. However, when I add a blank keyframe on the following page to add a new movie clip (with the next set of pictures, the timeline starts playing through the entire website, not recognizing stop actions or frame labels.
have 1 button inbeded in a movie clip named mcintroclp that is on frame 1 of my main timeline, Frame 2 is labeled port_btn on the main timeline. In the timeline of the movie clip mcintroclp I've put the code:

I'm trying to loop back to the first frame of a movie clip using buttons. The movie clip is on a single frame on the main timeline. The buttons control the animation within the movie clip. The movie clip has three frames, and when I get to the last frame, I don't know how to write the code to go back to frame one, on the forth press of the next button. The code I'm using is below:

how I access variables in a frame on the stage with code from a frame within a movieclip?(basically passing variables from a stage frame to a movieclip frame)
I have this code that's repeating for 40 different instance names that play 40 different movieclip names.
Is it possible not to repeat all this code for every instance name? For example creating a function that catch the instance name that is pressed and plays the correct moviclip name?
i have As code with functions on frame 1-6 i want on frame 7 to have a clear code that will remove all the functions from frame 6. I need only the AS code to be cleared on frame 6 no where else... so the functions that are there no longer work in the rest of the animation.
I am All Programmer when it comes to anything including flash. I got into making games not to long ago and some people use frames to navigate from the main menu to the game screen and so on (which I have no idea how to do). and some people encapsulate the game inside of a class and call it from the document class and add and remove it when please
I have a timeline with a bunch of frames. At the beginning of my timeline (frame 2) I have actionscript that makes movieclips that are transparent (alpha 0) visible, and also some rollover and link/button code using a tween class. On frame 3 I have other movies that are visible etc. Frame 3 has stop code, and a frame anchor named "page2". For instance for the moviedclip "page_1" I have this code:
I want to make a movieclip invisible initially but i dont want to set it manually within the properties in flash because i cant then see it on the scene.i could add some code like so:
MC Frame one.
this.onClipEvent(load) { this._alpha = 0; }
but I cannot. How can i set the MC _alpha to 0 for all instances without adding it manually to each instance or setting it in the properties?
edit: or creating a class for it just to set the alpha.

I have a movie clip with 15 frames. Each frame has buttons on it (mc's)... I was going to put the actions on the main timeline/stage and navigate within the MC from the main timeline. Is that possible? I can get the buttons on the first frame of the MC to work, but I can't seem to figure out how to target/make the buttons on the other frames work? I was thinking I could identify the path of the MC with the frame labels, but that doesn't seem to work. like: _root.RMChanger.(frame label).buttonOnFrame = function
I have to move a text box in and out over the MC backgrounds on the main stage... which is why I was thinking to do it this way? I've been switching back and forth bwtween AS2.0 and 3.0
I am creating a navigation bar in Flash (which will then be used in Dreamweaver). When you mouse over each topic in menu (ex. Products), i want it play a movie clip (so it shoots out a sub-menu underneath). so far so good, but the only thing is, the sub-menu won't stay open in order for me to click on buttons in it. For each button, I assigned it the Behavior to go to a url. Also, I tested the buttons within the mc and they don't seem to direct me to url. do you think maybe it's because it's nested within the movie clip?? Is there an easier way to go about this?
Just finally making the transition from AS2 to AS3.All i need to do at this point is make two buttons which will control the movie to goto next frame and previous frame. I have gotten how to make the buttons go to a specified frame number and also a button to go to a specified external url but no success in making a simple next/previous pair of buttons.
