The following is my codes. This is still work in progress; so, you will see some functions with empty contents. Plus, this is my first Flex application; please bear with me. This is a quiz application that gets the questions and answers to each questions from a ColdFusion web service. There are three types of questions, True or False, Multiple Choice with single selection, and Multiple Choice with multiple selections. So, based upon the question type, the application would dynamically generate the appropriate amount of radio buttons or check boxes for the users to select. I got these working. The problem that I am having is, I am not sure how to check what the users have actually selected. In some other forums and posts on other web site, it said that I can use event.currentTarget.selectedValue to get the user selection. But when I actually do it, I got a run-time error saying, "Property selectedValue not found on mx.controls.FormItem and there is no default value." My question is, what do I need to do to capture the user selections?

Here's what I have in my design:
- There's an update function in the main loop that updates position of the game objects, check whether it's alive/out of bound for deletion.
- I have certain frames/keyframes section of an object that denotes what kind of animation that object is playing (idling, exploding, death animation, etc)
For now, I only have 1 frame for the target object idling on frame 1, and 1 animation when the target object explodes from frame 2 to frame 25. Naturally, I'd like to stop the movie clip from playing it repeatedly from frame 1->25. But when I do so (putting this.stop() on frame 1). Every instances in the scene are stopped. (the player idling animation has 4 keyframes, and it stuck on frame 1).

I have been reading these forums for like 2 months, thus i never felt like being able to post something as a valuable answer to someone's problem, since i've been AS3ing for like 3 months now. I have a small problem here on a game that i am trying to create. I am trying to make a shooter game . Like the ones u kill enemies and then the the level advances ( imagine the pseydomovement depth feel of the background giving the player the taste of further movement of the field , yes like old airplane games ). Ok to the point.
1) created a main .as where all the code is running. The movement of the player is written there also. no problem with that. 2) created a bullet class where i assign the bullet speed and i check for the collisions with enemies. the problem occurs somewhere here i have created a statement where every some time ( like 0,5 secs ) an enemy appears and takes a random road till the stageHeight . here is the code .

So when all 5 mikros are out i start firing them . BUT only the last child of mikros seems to follow the hittestobject procedure of my code. Which means that if all of the 5 mikros are on stage the one with the smallest .y value will disappear when hit by "sfera". I know it is huge but this pains my head for like 1 week and i cannot think anything . Tried some staff. but i do not know if this is proper thinking or if my programming is proper for this and i must redo all.

if there is a way to check if the mouse is over an instance of an mc?
something like:

Unfortunately standard MOUSE_OVER and MOUSE_OUT event listeners won't do in this case. I have 2 mc's next to each other. I have a MOUSE_OUT function for mc 1, but I only want it to execute if the mouse does not roll over mc2 which is situated directly next to it.

I'm attaching as many instances of a MC as my xml child nodes length.So basically never know how many of them would be on the stage.Each MC receive actions to perform, nothing fancy and it basically works.But what I want to do is to know when the user has clicked once on any mc so this latter gets 'not enabled' until another MC instance gets clicked. (so my previous MC instance gets enabled, it acts like radio buttons )The point is I know how to do it when the total of instances is defined.I also know the basics of a loop , but I cannot figure how to set up a "toggle" to gets this 'radio button group behaviour

i created lil bit complex button (for me ) and i want to use that button lets say 6 times, but what i want is every other button have different text.i tried everything and i failed, ill attach my .FLA a quick explanation:i have master mc_homeContainer,when u enter there is a label called btn text,when u enter in that button text u r now in sprite 58.in that sprite i want to but 6 keframes and each to contain different text. lets say keyframe 1 is home, keyframe 2 is about us etc.and then how can i call that text when i put 6 instances of mc_homecontainer to main stage.WOW i complicated all

One of the things that I love about AS 1/2 is with scrpt assist on, the ability to click a box and assign an action to a button (over, rollout, rollover, click, etc.). With action script 3, at least in CS4 that interaction isn't there and you have to write the code.I'm wondering if in CS5 there is that ability with AS3? Am I the only designer who misses this function.

I have three buttons on my stage, each with an instance name of USA_btn, Canada_btn, and Mexico_btn. I also have corresponding text with instances names of USA_txt, Canada_txt, and Mexico_txt. When file opens, you see all three buttons on stage and USA_txt. When the user clicks Canada_btn, the USA_txt should fade out, and Canada_txt should fade in. I need to accomplish this with action script as I will eventually have 10 combinations.
I can determine the instance name when a button is clicked with event.CurrentTarget.name. How can I use the instance name to:
1) Fade out old text?
2) Fade in new text?
I assume I will set opacity=0 but I keep getting error #1056: Cannot create property alpha on String.

I am pulling data and attempting to assign it to multiple buttons on the _root of my project. Currently, the buttons are positioning themselves really nicely in the proper position, all with the EXACT SAME value.
Here is the script... OMG I am going nuts trying to get this to work.. I mostly do PHP, so AS is... well, different.

Does creating a new instance of an Object that uses an identical name to an older instance, delete the previous instance? Or should the original instance be deleted first? The code uses a ridiculous amount of XML vars. Isn't it less memory intensive to parse the XML and save the properties to an Object, and then delete the XML Object, rather than keep the XML Object around and reference it's child nodes directly? Is it better form to break up a huge XML file (>600lines/3200vars) into smaller chunks?

there seems to be no accepted method of playing multiple flv using buttons. My latest attempt has me putting multiple instances of the flvPlayback component in different frames and using buttons to navigate to those frames. It works but nothing anyone has posted anywhere will result in removing the flv when you go to a different frame and instance. This was simple in AS2. Load movie to a traget and each time you load a new movie the other one goes away. REALLY goes away.

I have a mc with simple btns inside. the mc is on every frame except one,in which I swapped a similar mc (different colors).I have tried leaving the instance name for the mc the same and also changing the instance name to something else but anytime I navigate to that frame, the buttons quit working.I have tried changing both the buttons and mc instance names to no avail.This is on my main timeline:

See [URL] Now there is a button called Answera, which when clicked should have a symbol (movie clip) called Check appear at the cordinated specified. Check exists in the libary (but does not have an instance name) and no where else on the stage. when I run this code I get: 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method Check. -> var rightCheck = new Check(); How is it undefinded if it exists in the libary?
