Which is the default mouse event I can declare in a method signature ?
for example:

gives me this error:

VerifyError: Error #1102: Illegal default value for type MouseEvent.

I want to call the method from code and not from listener.

when extending a class, is it impossible to override a method without also matching the parameters?for example, i'd like to use the method's name, in this case it's a socket extension and the method i want to override is connect. however, i want to request additional parameters that the stock connect function does not request.
is the only alternative to create my own connect-like method with my own parameters, call super.connect from this function and override the stock connect function to throw an error if it's called?

create a method with different signature elegantly?For example, I want to create a getData() method which could take id or name. I can either do getData(arg:*):Object where I can guess what that arg is inside the getData method, or create getDataById(id:Number):Object and getDataById(name:String):Object to achieve this, but I am not really liking this much... I am basically stuck with those two options or is there any way to do what Java does where you can do getData(id:Number):Object and getData(name:String):Object?

Is there a way to set a default extension when saving an image using FileReference save method?
Code:
var fileReference:FileReference = new FileReference();
fileReference.save( pngData, "image.png" );
If windows is set to "hide known file extensions", only image without extension will be displayed in save dialog. File type is "*.*". Some of my users hat the great idea to add .jpg extension in filename, because they couldn't see one. So file was saved broken as image.jpg.

In flex, when I put the mouse over a field that is not valid, a red popup appears which indicate the error message. By default, it's rounded by red.
Is it possible to display the red popup by default without mouse over it? because sometimes the red box is not clear enough and we have impression that the program is stuk

I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I've looked all over here and other websites and can't find the answer. Here's the situation: I have a movieClip that has an animation inside of it. When the movieClip is hovered over, it changes to the hand (indicating it's clickable). What I need to be able to do is change the hand back to the default cursor. Every single article I've read is about how to change your cursor to something else (using mouse.hide() and replacing it with an image), which is not what I want.

Are there any good tutorials out there that go over the AS event model in detail.I am trying to figure out things such as what are the 'default behaviors' attached to different events.Supposedly the the default behavior for a text event is to type in a TextField (makes sense). Also that behavior is supposedly canelable.However I can not find listed in the AS documentation.Maybe I am just not looking in the correct place.
One thing I really liked about java was the documentation.Everything about the class structure was laid out very elegantly and documented.I could tell exactly what events a class listened to or broadcast a paticular event, and how they responded.Also I i could tell which section of the code was responsible for drawing / redrawing graphics.But maybe I have not spent enough time with AS.

Textfields currently do not dispatch paste events. When the user is using keyboard shortcuts to paste, there's a way to workaround that shortcoming by listening to various keyboard events in the textfield. Is there a way to detect the paste event when it is originated from a click on the ContextMenu?

I have a flash that has a background symbol that responds to CLICK event. On top of that symbol I have a sprite that contains a Bitmap with transparent pixels. Both of them are added to the stage, so they are not related directly.
I want clicks on the transparent pixels on the sprite to go straight through to the background. I have read about mouseEnabled / mouseChildren but have not been able to make these work. The symbol ignores the mouse events when I use them, but does not pass it along as if its transparent.
Is this possible to do with flash? Or will I have to re-route mouse events?

My stage has about 25 buttons on it. Each button when pressed to tweens the background to some random x/y coordinates and then loads an external swf file.This is all working, but the timing is off. How can I wait for the initial background tween to end before I make the loader call to the .swf file.Currently each button's behavior is called on the MouseEvent.CLICK event which calls a function that knows its unique filename.swf. I know you can add the MOTION_FINISH even to the tween event but then I would have to call a new function and lose track of the button that initially called it.

Basically I am dynamically calling product buttons, which on rollover invoke a child of a dropdown, which in turn invokes children which are squares filled with colour.What I need is for these squares to be clickable which will then colour something else using the colourMatrixFilter (I'll probably start another post for this problem at a later date).For some reason though adding the Square as a child to it's rightful parent - the dropdown makes the listeners completely useless. Add to the stage and the listeners work. I can't work out why either and have done loads of searching.[code] also if someone could show me in the right direction of pulling the XMLdata for the squares (which will be a name attribute).

This is a very basic question but I can't seem to find an answer. I have a mouse over event and have created the buttons with the mouse overs which is working great. I created the actionscript to go to a specific web page when a user clicks the button. Now, I need to add a label to the mouse over so when someone mouse's over any area of the button, it will show them a particular name for the button.

When game starts, the car runs automatically. Then we click the SPACE button, movement of car stops. And the door of structure near car is available to CLICK.
But in coding I got this error code:

I have a parent sprite that contains several child sprites. I have attached mouse click and mouse down event amongst others to the parent sprite. And in the listeners I check which child has been targeted using the "event.target" property. However It seems that the mouse click event does not trigger for some reason. Is it possible that the mouse down event is eating up the click event. Is this a know issue in as3 and is there a possible workaround?
