I'm having a hard time building a Cairngorm Flex3 app that connects to a rails app. I'm used to rails DRY approad, and the Convention over Configuration thing too.. and Cairngorm in awful at these.
How do you keep you flex code as DRY as possible? I've implemented a generic delegate to avoid a delegate for each command, at least.
I'm trying to make a preloader for a little flash project that involves re-assembling a load of rectangles to make up a pattern.Idea is that instead of the usual load bar i wanted to make use of this pattern that is relevant to the project and have it rebuild it self with these rectangles flying in from the side. So far I have got the tweening sorted using the tween class and staggered the 42 (yes took a little while, probably an easier way so let me know on that also) rectangles using 'setTimeout' so it releases each 100milliseconds after the one one before it. This probably the wrong way to do it but i wanted to check how it looked and this was the one way i knew how to do it.
I want to make it so that these rectangles fly in a complete the pattern once the loading has finished, but on a fast connection I don't want it to rush the animation but for a slow connection I obviously want it to adjust the release time and maybe even the travel speed to compensate.
I had an idea of maybe working out the percentage loaded divided by 42 and then run an if statement to see if that percentage for that segment had been reached before 100millseconds had passed, if 100 had passed then release the rectangle, if not then hold the rectangle until 100 m/s had passed. Not sure if that is the best way to do but that's why I'm looking for some suggestions from more experienced developers.

I have a movie clip on Scene1 called "movieclip1." Inside "movieclip1" there is a label of "fadein," which underneath the label has the movie clip fadeing in. Then I have a label called "fadeout," which has the movie clip fading out. What I want to do is get the coding or action script to make it so when I click on "portfolios_btn" (on scene1) it runs what is under my label "fadein" inside the movie clip "movieclip1."
Then, when I roll off the movie clip I want it to go and play whats under the "fadeout" label. This "movieclip1" is a drop down menu that fades in when I click on the portfolios_btn and fades out when I roll off the movieclip.
Just trying to make a flash photo gallery that displays all the image files in a certain directory with the usual photo gallery functionality.
View 1 RepliesIm starting to learn about how RTMFP works in Flash, and I want to know what do I need to make this happen. I got this game, flash game, and I'd like to use RTMFP so other players can play versus/coop with each other.
Think of a RTS (Starcraft), I build units, some other guy do the same, and units fights with each other.
If I understand correctly, Cirrus is enough to make this happen, but I also heard some guys saying that FMS (Flash Media Server) is required for this, wich is, if Im correct, quite expensive at least for my low budget.
So, let say, I got N players, and they can connect with each other like in a regular RTS online game, is Cirrus enough for this?, or do I need to pay for FMS? I'd also want to record some data after the match is over, so I can give some points/gold/etc to each player

I figured that I could make a loop to cycle through the galleries, then nest another loop inside it to cycle through the pics, captions and thumbs. While I wrote, I constantly tested the output with trace commands, but when I tried nesting the loop I lost all output.. I have recently created a flash website and on the contact page i wanted to put a form that would send the information the put in directly to email. After creating the form and coding the flash code which is below i coded the php file and loaded it to my webserver to see if it worked (the webserver supports php scripts) I am not recieving any emails from the form can any one look over my code and tell me my problem.

Hi, I am brand new to Flash and I come from other development environments so I have a question about a possibility. I am aware that you can have a symbol (like a MovieClip) use a custom class to handle how it responds to the world, but I was wondering if it's possible to be able to set some values via flash without having to touch code. For example, I create a MovieClip called Crate, which has a class that lets it be destroyed, but then the designer wants to specify that certain crates have contents inside of them. Is there any way to do that in flash without having to create a new class for the crate?
In other words: the designer puts a Crate in the world and then sets a propery (for example: contents = TennisBall) and the Crate class handles the rest. Will this work? Also, am I right to understand that instances of symbols are all the exact same? So I can't have the designer create a new instance of Crate and then change it to be a little different (like draw a sticker on the Crate), but still have it be the same as all the other Crates?
I hope these questions make sense and I apologize if I asked this in the wrong forum. I'm very interested in developing games for flash, especially after the news that CS5 will let you export to the iPhone, but I'd like to keep the code away from the designer as much as possible,
I'm in the process of learning Flex, but I learn best by example. Where can I find open source examples of Flex applets? In particular, I'm trying to reproduce the functionality of the JavaScript based Simile timeline, so a timeline example would be sweet.
