View 1 RepliesSo I'll be honest, I am very new to Flash. I have CS5.5 and I am trying to animate some images that I made in Photoshop in Flash. I would like to use tools such as the Bone tool on them but I have gotten almost every error feedback such as "cannot be applied to stroke" and "cannot link bitmap" and "cannot link group objects". I have been messing around with it quite a bit. My file is .swf and I do ungroup it but now when I use the bone tool on it, the entire image turns white.
Previously I have had problems where the picture would not disappear but my drawing would move back a bit and I could only see it through the movable window given by the bone tool in the shape of my picture. Another problem was when I used the Bone tool, the image would split into four flipped sections and not stay together. I assume this had to do with when I tried to "break apart" my image, but something similar happened on an unbroken non-bitmap image.
I am trying to use the bone tool on a jpeg image I edited in photoshop. When I import it I have to "break-apart" the image to use the bone tool on it and all seems fine. but when the pose is set, the image vanishes during the motion.

I can't seem to add more than one bone to a "Symbol" but I need to. For example I have the "body" symbol and I need to start the bone at the neck and then drag it to the waist/hip area, but when I drag the bone from the neck area to the waist it won't let me attach the boneto the waist hip area of the same symbol. Why is this? I've seen this done in a tutorial but I don't know how to do it.
How can I rig the character in the image so the legs are attached to a wiast or hip area?
1st bone - Start a bone at the head, then drag to the neck.
2nd bone - Drag the bone from the neck to the waist.
3rd bone - From the waist to the hip.
4th bone - From the hips to the legs.
How can I use the bone tool on a regular image off the internet? I've tried creating it into a symbol but nothing seems to work.
View 1 RepliesI'm having trouble with the Flash CS5 Bone Tool, Everytime I create 2 sets of objects whether its legs or arms, when I duplicate them. break them apart and make a second set of arms and legs, the two characters I assign them to, swap around when I saved them. So one has arms instead of legs and legs instead of arms, but the other character is completely unaffected. I move the bones within the symbols and they return to normal but then it affects the other character and vice versa.
View 1 RepliesI watched a tutorial where they added bones to a "Symbol" but when I try it it doesn't work. What I did was I imported a bitmap image and converted it to a "Symbol" but it wouldn't take the bone tool. How do I do this?
View 1 RepliesI am creating a ragdoll game without gravity and with constraints, I want to use the bone tool in flash as3.Is it possible to embedded in a bone tool in Actionscript 3?
View 1 RepliesSo I'm working with a character file I created in Illustrator. I import to stage, then set the bone tool on a leg to get it to move. But when I start moving the bone tool, it only moves the color fill layer, and leaves the outline behind.
View 2 RepliesI would like to edit the shape that the bone structure is manipulating and i can't for the life of me figure out how. Double clicking does nothing, right clicking offers no useful menu to get into my shape and edit. Looking back I wonder if I should have turned my shape into a movie clip before adding the bones? But Flash didn't stop me and I assumed I could go back and edit later on.
View 1 RepliesI have recently been experimenting with animation in Flash, but now I've run into a problem-- whenever I try to add bones to a bitmap image I want to animate, I get a message saying that I "cannot link bitmap objects." Does this mean that bones can't be applied at all to raster graphics? I also tried converting the image to vectors via the Trace Bitmap function, but when I attempt to add bones to the result it complains that "the image is too complex. Please optimize or convert to a movie clip." I followed its directions, but it continued to complain that the image was too complex. As a sanity check, I drew a simple X on the frame with the pencil tool and received the same 'too complex' message from Flash when I tried to add bones to it.
View 1 RepliesI'm teaching a bunch of kids to use flash at school using CS4. One of the kids is having problems with the image that he is moving with the bone tool. After about eighty frames the image disappears but the bones stay. How do we get the image to stay?
View 1 RepliesI'm creating a Flash animation using the bone tool to animate arms and legs. I created my characters in Illustrator and copy/paste the individual elements (such as the arms/legs/body etc) into Flash, then convert them to symbols. From there, I use Modify>Break Apart to get the symbol into its most primitive state and the use the bone tool to create joints. I did a small bit of animation, and now whenever I make any modifications (like adding more library items or more poses) whenever I save then re-open the file, the bones are still there, but the image is gone. So right now I have what is supposed to be a girl jumping up and down, but her arms and legs have disappeared so she just looks like a floating body. I've re-created this file multiple times, and this continues to happen, but at different points during the animation so I cannot pinpoint one certain thing that could be causing this.
View 6 RepliesI've made a character, and used the bone tool to make it move in runtime. This works fine, but now I want to add gravity/physics, so I can throw my character and it lands on the ground like a real ragdoll. How do I do this in actionscript 3 ? And is it possible to do this within the fla (no class file).
View 1 Repliesit is possible to move an object that has a bone attached to it that will follow the movieclip you are moving with script? For example if I have movieclip "arm" connected using a bone to movieclip "hand" and I use the script
hand.x = hand.x + 20
the arm doesn't follow the hand though like it does if I were to drag the hand in flash manually.
I have a few linked armatures on stage and was needing to be able to move them around with AS3. Is there a way I can state the angle that I want an armature at, and the rest of the armatures below it will follow, but the ones above it will remain in place?
View 1 RepliesIn Flash, when you rotate a movieclip in the IDE, thenrelease, the movieclip will often (80% of the time) lose .1-.2% ofits scale. You can see the numbers changing in the transformwindow. It will continue to decrease the more you rotate/release,gradually shrinking. For an IK armature (using the bone tool), which is prettymuch all about rotations, this is a major issue. A simple animationof a human character waving can bring their forearm scale down from100% to 92% by the end. Aside from being visually noticeable (my arm is shrinking!)the Armature itself seems to react badly, losing joint connections, randomly displacing movieclips, and generally being unpredictable.I can't tell to what extent the Armature bugginess is directlycaused by the gradual scale-creep -- but it's certainly not.The Armature in the Bone Tool is uneditable- editing theposition of a bone relative to another bone causes the othermovieclips in the skeleton to start inching in random directions.
View 7 RepliesI normally draw all my cartoons in Illustrator (cs5 at the moment), but for a school project I have to animate these cartoons.I believe that I have done this before in Flash CS5 with the bone tool, but this time it doesn't work.I have read numerous of pages that try out the bone tool, but nothing works for me.making the body a movieclip and just import the other filesmaking every part a movieclip (head, arms, legs, tail, etc.)making every part a png or jpeg filegrouping and ungrouping of the vectorIt seems the only option left for me is to draw my cartoon in Flash. Which I'm not too fond of, because Flash ofcourse isn't a drawing programme like Illustrator.
View 2 RepliesI want to have shape tween animation with bone tool on bitmap image. Because shape tween animation supports only Shape data type, I converted the bitmap to that type (Bitmap -> Trace Bitmap). Problem is that trace command splits bitmap image into multiple shape fragments, so I can't use shape tween anymore.I tried to combine and group shape fragments, but it doesn't fix it.
View 1 RepliesI'm using Flash CS5 proefessional and trying to do a demonstration. The demonstrationincludes a rope-like lanyard that is quite long and needs to bend at many many points. After successfully applying the bone tool to the object, I tried moving it with Free Transform. However, when I do so, the lanyard suddenly disappears, besides a couple tiny pieces. I didn't delete the previous layer, and I had unioned everything before breaking it apart again to apply the Bone tool.
View 3 RepliesI thought I had a really simple task to do: Create an analog clock where student could set the time by moving the hours and minutes handles.Well, the whole thing works to a point... I have created a bone system to ensure that both handles bases stay put in the center of the clock while the handles get dragged about. The problem is that I cannot restrict the user movement within the "reach" of each handle (or is there?) and if the mouse happens to be OUTSIDE of the dragged handle at drop point, the MOUSE_UP event does not trigger.I have also looked for a MovieClipModified event which would work wonders in this case but I could not find it...
View 1 RepliesI'm looking to create an animation where a structure created with the bone tool follows my mouse around the stage.
I've tried startDrag but it breaks the bone structure apart.
The prblem that i have is that when i click the 'Bone Memory' game it load up fine. I can play the game and the 'Play Again' button work as well. The problem occurs when i use the 'Main Menu' button. It goes to the main screen, which is fine, but the 'duplicate' cards that were created for the game appear on this main screen when they shouldn't. This in turn causes problems with playing the game when the 'Bone Memory' button is selected for the second time. The cards are all in the wrong places.I am attching the file with the code. The main screen and game were created seperatly and i have tried to combine the in the file attched.
View 14 RepliesDoes anyone know the limit or extents of the limitations of the error message "The shape is to complex. Please optimize or convert to a movie clip" while using the bone tool on a single object which has been broken apart for the use of organic animation?
The bone tool in CS4 has great potential for organic looking animation. The only problem is it seems to be totally random as to whether or not it will accept me using the bone tool on my drawings. Sometimes it will work for images having up to 5 or 600 points other times less than 300. Also, I'm not talking about using the bone tool to link and animate individual movie clip symbols. So does anyone really understand the rules here, or perhaps know of a code or program setting I can use to change the complexity allowed with the bone rigging? My only current solution is using illustrator's more advanced optimizing features to lose less of my organic looking strokes but still this is not good enough.
Is there any way to control a character made with Adobe CS4 Bone Tool via keyboard buttons? Its limbs are linked up by IK chains built by Bone Tool.

I have a "person" so to speak, in flash, with a few different parts; head, pants, shirt and hat. There can be, for example, 10 different colors of shirts for the person. I've done a lot of the AS3 code behind it, but I'm awful in flash, and I've had a ton of trouble with this.
What I'm really trying got figure out (in vain) is how I can have basically a blank skeleton structure (i.e. I'm trying to have "blank" or "placeholder" symbols connected by Inverse Kinematics as bones) consisting of the pants, shirt, & head, and when I find out that shirt #6 needs to be on the person... put it in that placeholder. Does that make sense? That's the big problem. The other thing is that I've had nothing but trouble figuring out how to have, for example, one or two outlines of shirts, and when it sees shirt #6, it fills in that shirt with blue dynamically. But that might be for another question.
How I have it now: In AS3, each of the parts, the shirt, the pants, the head & hat, have their own custom classes behind movieclips, and for example, I've got it set up that the body contains the pants, shirt and head classes, and the head contains the hat class, etc.
I need to know how to add a stroke to an object after I have created it.
I guess the simple way of explaining is if I draw a circle without a stroke, how do I add one to the circle?
I have a short TEXT that I turned into a symbol, it is a MovieClip on the stage. I applied a preset motion of blur fly in to it and it does fly in but does not blur. I tried to use the motion editor to increase a blur to 255 but even when I add it on the initial keyframe, there is NO blur.
View 10 RepliesIs there a way to add a stroke to text in flash and if so could you explain how? I am still on flash 8.
View 2 RepliesWell i've used flash a bit but i never really messed with sounds. I want to make kind of a drum tool fun thing that can play sounds, so i need to know how to make a sound play when you press a letter or buton on keyboard
