See the .fla and try to replace an image in library with another one. It works fine with export to .swf, but try to save, close and reopen the .fla - all images in the library are same!

I am a pretty good programmer in as3 - but I don't know OOP. -- and I am not so good that I don't have a ton learn -- when I look at all the differnt script commands I know my knowledge is tiny. I am now at the point where I could look at a website and make a pretty good attempt at coppying it and most my programming is dynamic driven. View 6 RepliesI am working in two different applications, one to be compiled for desktop use (AIR) and one to be compiled for the web. They are part of the same project and use the same visual components, but they are completely different apps. When a visual component is changed in one application then it should also change in the other one. Is this a good situation to use a shared library fla? I am new to the concept of shared libraries and I am considering the options.
On one had I would not have to update 2 applications everytime I change something, on the other, I would always have to recompile the library folder when I do the smallest changes to a component.
i just wanted to mention, that on the tutorial at this location: [URL]..the actionscript that comes bundled in the file, and the script you're supposed to copy and paste is missing a capital "L" on the command "LoadVars" i spent the better part of two hours looking for the problem with my script, and couldnt figure it out, i downloaded the .fla... everything, to no avail... but as soon as i capitalized that letter, everything started working smoothly...
i dont know if it's just my computer, or if other complete newbies are going to have this problem, i just thought i'd bring it to your attention.feel free to delete this post if i'm just crazy and it's only a problem with my computer edit: if there isnt a problem, maybe someone could explain to me why i was having such a problem untill i capitalized that L?
All I want to do is create a flashing box to highlight an important piece of text on screen.How can I create a simple rectangle that will flash say between blue/ green for a few seconds stop flashing and box still be visible. Its literally just to highoight some text on screen I need to make sure everyone reads.

becoming a problem when we need to update media in the Library as the FLA can't find them. Is there a preference or system file that we need to change etc etc? I know we can manually locate the files but at present we are designing a JSFL that automatically updates, sizes our media within the FLA and the path issue is causing a problem.

View 6 RepliesI upgraded recently to Adobe CS5 from MM Flash 8 so that I could recover some newer Flash components that were developed in a newer version. This all seemed to go with out any issue. However, once in CS5, I noticed twice that an images switched to another image in the library. So I had two copies of the image and one image that went missing. I solved this by just updating the image that was corrupted.
I was on a crunch for this project and was working 16hr days, so I just left my computer on over night with CS5 open. I published the presentation and sent it for approval. Once everything was approved closed CS5.
When I reopened it many, (around 30ish) of my images have been corrupted the same way. I went back to my previous backups and the last 8hrs worth also have the corruption.
Is this something I can easily and permanently fix in this demo or as long as I use it will it keep on screwing up?Is this issue only with images or is my action script also likely to be corrupted?
When addressing nested movieclips like so: _root.movieclip.movieclip.variable they need to have an instance name set, otherwise they count as undefined. So I can set that in the properties no problem, but when deleting it from the stage and then readding (manually or by actionscript) the instance name is gone thus I can not address nested clips by action script.
I don't understand how this will work then, since every time I add a clip by code it will have no instance name. The only alternative for me so far was keeping the clip on the stage the whole time, just out of bounds or invisible so I can still do stuff like _root.movieclip.movieclip.variable or _root.movieclip.movieclip.gotoAndStop(2).
I have an .fla I created a while ago. In it is a movie clip in my library which I now want to use in a new .fla. This movie clip is reliant however on an image which is also in the library. I have tried selected both the image and movie clip, copy them, and paste them into my new library, but this doesnt work. I have tried cutting... I have tried duplicating and copying the duplicate. Nothing seems to work. Is there anyway of getting a symbol from one library into another?

View 5 RepliesI'm trying to change a Flash animation into a Quicktime movie to post to YouTube, which I've done with a much smaller file, but have had trouble with a larger 2.6M file. When testing Flash movie I get dialog box saying- Content will not stream... Change Runtime Shared Library Library > Advanced ActionScript 3.0 in Publish Settings. So I enter Publish Settings, on Formats I leave Flash and HTML checked. Select center tab for Flash, click on settings for ActionScript 3.0 in scripting box. In Advanced ActionScript Settings dialog at the bottom I've tried changing the Runtime Shared Library drop down to the Merged into Code option but it didn't help. The other option is the Preloader Method, where I think the problem is, but when it is changed form Preloader SWF to custom the Preloader SWF box at the very bottom empties and when the movie is published I get a warning of no Librarys linked and when movie is played int the Quicktime player some of the animations fragment and leave the fragment as remnants.

I have a mc call mcA which visible and invisible alternatively on stage. I want to attach 10 mc (mc1-mc10) in library with this mcA. When mcA is visible it will attach mc4 in library then it is invisible again. The next time it is visible, it attach let say mc7 and so on, we do not know which mc it will attach in the next session it is visible.

but I can't put all of them using for loop and addChild();
This has happened to me and other co-workers multiple times lately and it appears to have started around the time CS5.5 was loaded on our computers. What will happen is, we will have a file with multiple pngs/jpgs imported in and placed across the timeline. They will import fine and they swf will publish out fine. We will save the fla and close it. Then later we will open the fla back up and the images will all be gone from the library and obviously, in turn, removed from the timeline.

I have a question about a library one would create inside a Flash document. I have a bunch of pieces of graphics objects inside a library for a FLA file. I then drag these pieces onto stage to build a more complex object. I then select all those pieces and group them and convert this new object into a movie clip. From there I move it into the library for that FLA file. I notice there is both a graphic for this object plus the movie clip for that object. To me these are 2 separate objects. So when I delete the graphic of the object, it also deletes the movie clip I created of the object.

I would like to be able to see all my files grouped by type, but they are not in alphabetical order, which kind of defeats the purpose. Unless I am missing something shouldn't this be an issue for Adobe to fix?

View 1 RepliesWhen you import a PNG into the library, Flash creates a symbol as well. It doesn't do this for JPGs, so I'm wondering if there's a setting that I can change that. I don't want it to create a new symbol. If it can't be changed, can anyone tell me why it does it for PNG and not JPG?
View 4 RepliesI am using the CS4 version and when I click on the library item and drag it to the stage, there is nothing there. It is just a blank canvas and it's like the image(s) are hidden behind the stage or something. When I do a Publish Preview, I can see the .swf file with all the images, but in the .fla, there is nothing showing but the text files, and then that is even hidden in a newly created file. I am not sure if I accidently turned something on/off that is preventing my images from not showing on the stage or what. I really need to find a solution to this problem because I need to create a Flash file for a project I am working on in one of my classes. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have done Google searches and Forum searches to no avail unless I'm not using the right keywords in my search.
View 2 RepliesI need to import three pdf text files into my Flash CS4 for use in a project I am trying to complete but every time I try to import these pdf files to the library I get an error which reads "One or more files were not imported because there were problems reading them". I am using Adobe Reader X, which is the latest reader available, Flash CS4 and Windows Vista Home Premium and I cannot understand why I cannot import pdf files to Flash.
