View 5 Replieshow do you locate where a movie clip resides if you don't see it in the timeline!? I was handed a Flash file in which there is a movie clip of an antimated button (lets call it button A) that I must swap out with another button (button B), but in order to do that I have to find the instance in which button A is used in the banner animation.
Its been difficult since there are multiple layers and scrubbing through the animation doesn't even show when the instances of the button A reside! The only time I see it, is when I export it. Other than that, I have to scrub through and click on every layer and take a shot in the dark by locating the little movie clip circle - which 9 times out of 10 is not the one I was looking for.
Is there a way to know how many times a library item is being used in your Flash file?
View 6 Replies I have a large library that I am organizing of vector only files, some imported from Illustrator.
When I re-name some of the items other Movieclip items in the library lose their contents and all that is left is an empty symbol.
I repeated this several times and tried to find workarounds. Like duplicating the symbol. This worked for the one item but then it deleted another symbols contents.
I understand that I can see the usage count of a Library item easily. I have been assigned a task to edit someone else's Flash movie (I have been provided .fla source).The movies is extremely complex and I need to replace some images. How can I find out on which layer/frame does a Library Item appear on a Flash movie??
View 4 RepliesI've been quite frustrated over a very simple flash program I have, where I try to use code to add an item from the library to the stage. I've attached the .fla file. The errors I'm getting are: 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: playerShip. 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method playerShip.

View 1 RepliesI understand how to preload a loading SWF, and I understand how to preload from one frame then go to the next, so please don't post about doing those.My question is can you preload a symbol from the library and keep all code and content in one frame? I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find any tutorials to do this.
View 6 RepliesI am trying to write an AS3 flash app I made in AS2, and I can't figure out how to add an MC from the library onto the stage. In AS3 I would just give the MC a random class name and then use:[code]but in AS2 this throws the error: the class or interface 'class' could not be loaded.

Using Flash CS3 and AS3:
Where are the resources located? For instance I have checked out a few samples online and the Main.FLA is empty (with maybe a few movie clips).
There are a few .AS files along with the Main.FLA. Where are these .AS files referenced? There is no ActionScript in Main.FLA according to the Movie Explorer.
If I rename the .AS files, the Main.FLA no longer works, so obviously the names are referenced elsewhere.
Can't find the .AS files referenced in the Movie Explorer, and of the Movie Clips, the Library... where am I missing the references to the included .AS class files?
and i m using these code in my as file (this is not document class)it is working fine in my document class but i need to do this from setup class,

Is there a way to find the location a clip in the library is used?
View 0 RepliesI built a website for our company, but because my boss kept adding stuff as I was building, the navigation-function became a total mess. On top of that, the need has risen to make the site multi-lingual, and I would like to get the back-button and deep-linking to work properly.So, I decided to rewrite the navigation-function using the exanimo stateManager. The site structure basically has two levels: Six main sections (L1), most of which have subsections (L2). All these "pages" are library items that get attached to a holder MC (L0). So for instance, the first page is built by attaching "home_NL" to L0 and calling it L1, and then attaching "home_welkom_NL" to L1 and calling it L2.
This all works fine, until I've clicked Voices . If I click a section after that, the L0 gets faded out, but L1 is not removed. And since the function then tries to attach a new library item as L1 and will not continue until it is loaded, navigation simply hangs.
Unfortunately luister_NL, which is loaded when you click Voices, is a fairly complex movie clip (by my standards, at least). It allows the visitor to listen to samples of our voice-talents based on language, style and gender. These can also be selected and ordered through a form.Something in this movie clip is preventing Flash from removing it from the stage, but I cant figure out what.
Long time since i've done this and i'm a little rusty. How do I attach a library item to the Stage using AS2??
[AS]
Stage.attachMovie("myLogo", "myLogo", 1);
[/AS]
when I point my cs5.5 directory to a specific location with my AS files, it doesn't work. When I write code in a AS file it doesn't effect the fla. I've tried to put simple things such as:
var hug:int = 24;
trace(hug);
just to make sure. So help? I have everything pointed to my AS source files and stuff. Also my main class works but the other AS files don't affect on the fla.
how can i find (possibly with flash ) the listing of sub properties for events?i would not know if sub properties even exist for an event if i'd not done a tutorial stating so.for example.
var listenerObject:Object = new Object();
listenObject.cuePoint = function(evtObj){
trace(evtObj.info.name); //how do i find out if such sub properties exists for events?

The following script works perfectly, but I can't get the library item (which is a mc, class "helmet") to display. Do I need to import additional classes to display the mc?

I've created a movieclip in my library which has, among other things, a dynamic text field. This text field has an instance name of "txt".
I then attach this movieclip and want to set the txt instance, but I get an error:
Code:

Here's my code:
Code:

I have an item in the library that is exported for actionscript. Its class name is MoveArrow and in the document class I create an instance of it the following way[code]...
HOw do I access a library item from outside the documentClass?
I simply want to generate a list of the items in my library. (Then i want to read an external file and format the text in as3. All this bec I'm too lazy to learn CSS.)
View 2 Repliesis it possible to reference an item that is present in the library of an external SWF.Like use a attachMovie on a movieclip thats located in an SWF which is imported using loadMovie?
View 6 RepliesI have a class tied to a library item, but no matter what I do, if I access any of the children (added via the stage in the Flash IDE) in the constructor of the class, they always return null and give me #1009 errors.

I'm using AS3, and have one simple layer with 4 keyframes If I import it to another fla file as a library item, it keeps showing me all keyframes, I don't want that I want it to show me the whole animation.
Like, if I have an animation of me swinging a baseball bat, I don't want to see all the keyframes seperately imported into the library, but I want it to be all in one piece, so that when I click play it plays all keyframes.
Is there a way to extend the movieclip class without using a library item and attachMovie?
View 3 RepliesBasically looking for a way to get the instance created when I use this function I've made, it seems to me "libItem" will be a new instance and I would like to re-assign that back to the item passed into the function so I can access the instance later.
Here is the function I created to create library on the stage...
Code:
function objectPlacer( libItem, instance:Class ):void {
libItem = new instance( );
addChild( libItem );
}
So here is how I call the function
Code:
// Function( var name, library item class name, pos x, pos y )
objectPlacer( i_ranks, txt_Ranking );
My problem is, I try to access "i_ranks" later with the following code...
Code:
i_ranks.x = 100;
And I get the error:
TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
"i_ranks" is defined as a class member.
Also, if you know - what should types should I be assigning the parameters instance and libItem in the function?
