For the longest time, I've been tearing my hair out trying to figure out why my CS4 FLAs were getting larger every time I did a Save and Compact. I finally tracked it down to the @#$% metadata. Every time you save an FLA, it appends a useles chunk of metadata to it, that looks something like this:
This can be viewed in Flash by going to File -> File Info... -> Raw Data.
On frequently-updated files, this junk can easily add dozens or hundreds of K to the size of an FLA. So my question is this: Is it possible to edit an FLA's metadata?
I'm a total computer newbie and kinda slow with these sort of things, but here goes.I made a website in flash and published it but haven't uploaded it to my website yet. If i do upload it, how do i edit it again, in Flash?I do have a webhost, but I can't edit it there because I made the website myself therefore I have to edit it from my programs and then publish it again, correct?
One day after I wrote a paragraph of text and saved itI am unable to edit it.a misalignment and consequently the left and right arrows are unreponsive. Also when I highlight the line of text I want to work with as soon as I place the text iconover that line and click the software creates another layer instead of remaining in the layerI've specified
i am new to Flash and am currently working with an XML based flash template. When i open the .fla file, none of the text or images show up. I understand this is b/c i have to edit the xml file in dreamweaver. However that is a very complicated way of doing it b/c then i have to keep going back and forth between several programs and saving, and updating, and never getting of "live view" of the chages i am making. My question is: Is there really no way for me to edit the whole xml flash template in Flash CS5? Meaning is there some sort of way to import or manipulate the files so that i can edit the text and images directly in flash pro cs5 and not having to keep going into dreamweaver?
I am a Java programmer and I can read and edit most anything I get my hands on. I don't work much with flash and when I do there is no reason to look at any sort of source.I received a file from someone to add to a project and the instructions were to open the .fla in CS5 and edit certain lines to pioint to directories . The file is and interactive app type.I have tried doing this but I am at a loss. I had thought that I would just be able to view some source in the file and edit those lines and export the ,swf, but I can see nothing like that.
how to trim /fade my sounds in Flash CS5 but it is a nightmare. So at frame 800 I want to start to fade the sound from 100% to 0% on frame 850, but whatever I try it just get's mucked up. Those little handles just keep duplicating when I try and drag them. Is there any way to delete the points and how do I get the left and right to be identical. Also, how do I fade the sound? I mean what is the best way to fade the sound so at frame 800 the sound starts to fade from 100% to 0% on frame 850?
I'm trying to edit a .fla file. It's actually a flash game, a dating sim game to be specific. Now, the game has dialogues where you have to press a "next button" so that the next dialogue will appear, but I've noticed that all the dialogues are gone, they're not appearing at all. It's just a blank space. At the same time, the game has dynamic texts like money, energy and name of the player but likewise it's just an empty space. I've noticed that when I exported the game as swf. The text appears but it's distorted. For example the dialogue "Where am I" would appear as "a aa ii". I've also noticed that when I opened the .fla, it says that there are fonts missing.. I dont know if that has something to do with this..
I'm actually relatively new to flash and actionscript but I could say I have fair knowledge about them. So anyway, I usually build flash websites the traditional way using timeline animation and scripting. Today I had a job interview and they said they're looking for someone who can develop any web design into a Flash CMS with a back-end office for the client to edit the content without having to edit the FLA file or any code.
Accordingly, I'd like to know where and how to start. What are the main concepts I should follow/adapt?
Sorry for lack of terminology but I want to create movie clips with moving graphics or objects and so want to see the boundaries of the stage. At present the whole area is filled with my stage colour. A setting somehwere?
I have a flash header on a client's site that was done and I'm trying to edit the links on the submenu for camps can't seem to find the code to edit the links and take away a link.
I created a short animation for the first time yesterday, and I ended up drawing a few frames ouside the parameters of the stage. Now I want to adjust the position of the whole composition so that it all fits on the stage. Is there a way, like in photoshop with seperate layers, to select every frame and move them all simultaneously?
I'm using an open-source Flash mp3 player. In comes in two swf versions. One plays a list of songs and displays the album cover(s). The other version just plays one song. The problem is that the single-song version loads some default text that I want to change (I was able to do this in the other version via the external playlist file). I'm a Flash newbie, and when I open the fla file the player's author provides, I can't find where this default text is located. (The playlist version works fine; its default text relates to what the user will get when they click on the file titles.) Playlist version that works OK - [URL] Single song version with wrong default text - [URL]
I'm doing an app for the next st valentin's day and I'm using the Facebook API. The idea is that the user will be able to take a picture with it's own webcam and then edit that photo for to send it to a friend from facebook. But I can't find a tutorial about to edit an image (a bitmap) in the application. Can you tell me how can I do it? I want to edit the bitmap on the same app, like add a frame around the picture and maybe add a message too.
I have just put together my first flash menu and have put in the url's or links to the various pages such as contact us etc that are in my Dream Weaver site that is, as yet still sitting on my computer. The links works fine. My question is: When I upload the site do I have to re-edit the links or will, if the SWF file stays in the same folder, the links still work?
P.S. Is anyone finding that the new (beta) version of Firefox 4 having problems with flash - jerky, disappears and sticks etc
I need to create or edit which ever is easier the preloader for a flash banner which someone else created. I have searched for days (well hours) for an answer to my requirement on line and have gotten exactly nowhere. I mean if I just wanted a black box with a 100% loading rectangle I'd be sorted by now but that's NOT what I need so I'm pining my hopes on the expertise within this forum.
What I need is a preloader with a single static graphic and 100% counter which stops running and displays a black rectangle before the main fla file kicks in. I have tried every which way to achieve this and the closest I got was a single static graphic with a static loading sign which was viewable at every transition in my main fla file as the graphics were changing?
I am about to buy a website flash template. Before I buy the template I want to make sure, that I am good enough to edit to my needs. I downloaded a free flash template and I tried to edit it in my Flash CS5.I have had a lot of trouble editing it and I can't even figure out how I change the pictures or the text. [URL]..
In Flash CS4, I have a graphic of a long filmstrip with 24 pix in it. I need to edit the symbol in photoshop (to put all new pix in), and then replace the current filmstrip with the new filmstrip. How? This is CS4, not CS5.
I was given a flash project to edit. I have to edit one image in Photoshop, but when I right click on it and choose Edit with -Photoshop, an error message comes up saying "The file G:Web-02Sitefilm120902.gif does not exist, unable to launch external editor". I don't understand how Flash can list the image and display the image when I click on it, yet it doesn't exist. I tried to copy the image and paste it in photoshop but it only pastes a very low resolution version of it. What do I do?
I'm trying to change an image, but I noticed that the image is in a symbol/movie clip type.. I also found out that the image itself (jpg/gif/png format) is not in the library. So what to do? How to change it? Also, when importing image files to the library, how do I import it automatically to a certain folder in the library?
I have a video which my client wants me to cut in pieces. I see that I can set up starting and ending points in Media Encoder, i.e. cut out the part from beginning and end. Is there an option to cut out parts in the middle?
I am familiar with After Effects but my client doesn't want to invest in this program. Are there any smaller/cheaper programs which allow more video editing that AME if AME indeed can not do it?
I know how to use Instance_name_here but what I can't work out is that in the example code snippets sometimes you can click on a link or image location that's in blue text and change it to what you want. How do I set this up myself when Creating a code snippet? Currently all my links and image locations appear in unclickable grey text instead of blue
new to flash, using windows vista 64 bit and cs4. I would like to take flv movie clips and edit them to use in flash. Is there a program in cs4 I can do that with? or should I use something else.

I'm trying to edit a flash file embedded in Dreamweaver CS4. I can't open the file the only thing it will do is play. Can FL CS4 open and edit FL CS3 files?
I have created a line on the stage with the Line tool, and then want to edit the Stroke and Style in the Properties panel. However, after creating the line these options are greyed out and not available to me. Even if I then select the Line with the Selection tool, I cannot edit the Stroke or the Style.
I'm building a site that was bought from a template house that has a flash piece in the header. I have Win CS4 and have been able to swap out the images and replace the text but I am having a hard time finding where I can edit where/how the text aligns/ends up. Here's the test location: FertilityTestSite
Originally there was text of varying lengths that slides in below each image aligning right to the play/stop button. I tried to get them to give me text of a similar length but they just want the phone number. So now the phone number slides in but because the original text was longer (except for the one that had a ph#) they stop at different locations where the original 1st character came allowing to align right.
So my question is how/where do I edit this action? Would this be [in] the ActionScript? I am a complete noob and have only gotten to where I am through trial and error. I was able to find and replace the text in Essentials workspace and I was able to swap images (update) by right clicking them in the library view and I see a text export in there too that I have a high suspicion is what I need to edit but don't know how to access it.
Created a new file & new layer with 300 frames.Only used 150 frames for the animation. How do I edit (trim) the scene / project down to JUST the frames I need (ie 300 to 150) prior to export as swf?
i inherited a slideshow type of movie at work and there is one part of the movie that takes up 37 slides (all duplicates). i need to edit the text on them all. can i do this easily or do i have to go through and change them all manually?
I'm doing some masking with the brush tool. Each keyframe I'm drawing a bit more of the mask. My problem is if I go back to the first keyframe and paint something it doesn't appear on the other keyframes.I thought I found the solution with Edit Multiple Frames, but it doesn't seem to work with the brush tool.
When creating an animation with a classic tween sometimes I'd have to adjust all frames based on changing stage size and what have you. I'd usually park animations in mc's but even then I'd have to on occasion move the whole animation as whole, using the Edit Multiple Frames button on the Timeline. This is also needed when repurposing Flash ads for different sizes. Sometimes I have to adjust a few layers and leave some layers alone, again for Flash ads and alike.
When using a Motion or 3D tween I wanted to know if this was possible, not because I have a particular scenario but I wanted to see if I could do this in the event of needing to do so one day. I tried this feature and I was unable to move the whole animation as I would with a Classic Tween. The only thing I could do to achieve this was to park the Motion/3D tween into it's own mc and then drop that mc on the stage and move the mc as a whole. Is there any way to select all frames of the Motion Tween and move it as a whole without resorting to putting it in a mc (even though I get that it should always exist in a mc)?
