Actionscript 3 :: Skipping To Next Game Level?

I am in the process of building a game with around 20 levels. Now, as I was thinking of trying to add a "skip" option to the game with the space bar key. I have a little trouble, since holding down the spacebar invokes the KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN event multiple times.
The above scenario (Keydown and keyup) works just fine when I'm trying to move my player character on screen. The one main concern that is lingering in my mind is "Is this going wrong because the KeyboardEvent listeners do get removed and added when changing levels?"
P.S: Adding the skip option as a button works just fine, but I'd really like to use Spacebar for the ease of use.

i've got a simple demo for a spot the difference game,you click, find the differences, if you find all 5, the find count goes down to 0 and you get a win screen.. that's fine if you don't find them all within 30 seconds, it goes to a loose screen, that's also fine the problem comes when you click to replay and then seemingly for no good reason, the timer skips more than 1 number a second.. this is the code i'm using on the timer

I am wondering how to write code so that once a character reaches a certain 'end mark' it will trigger the next frame/level. I am using Flash CS5, but I have primarily used it for animation. This would be my first leveled game.

I have seen in some games where instead of loading the whole game at the beginning of the game, they load one level, with the preloader on the screen, then when that level is over, another level is loaded, with the preloader on the screen, etc. I've been trying to find a tutorial or some information on how to do this online but couldn't find anything. I have a game that takes a long time to load when loading it all at the beginning of the game, so I'd like to load it level by level.

I am trying to understand the best technique for this.My game is like a side scroller. A new "Tile" or piece of game would contain one of each display objects.
-terrain
-slide (like a playground slide)
-other stuff...
pseudo example: the first tile set would be pieces terrain1 and slide3

One of my issues is readability and ease of level layout.i want to keep the code stacked in a way i can read pieces easily, which is why slidePiece 0 or 00 == no slide (just to keep the array in line).I can look at this and say to myself the 6th set would look like terrain2,slide4. (which are both pooled display objects) Would it be better if each "tile" is a class containing references to each asset? If so, i cant see how to assign each tile in a readable form while setting up the level layout on my end.

I'm making my first flash game but I've run into some problems. Here is the game: [URL]. Everytime I reach the next level I get this error:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

I also want the timer to stop counting when I die or finish. I've tried

I'm creating a game, here is a screenshot: I'm trying to implement a scene system in an easy way (I'm a beginner). In this tutorial the author adds scenes as movie clip. So I tried making a movie clip with action script export name the same as my main .as file. When I add it to the scene manually, dragging and dropping from the library, it works. But when I try adding it from a new starting .as file, I get a #1009 error. Adding a test movie clip with the same code works.

I tried all zooms, placing objects outside there to gain scroll access, but it won't, and seem to be outside of some lighter gray plate... is it simply the limit? how the hell can I design the rest of my level?

I have a game with multiple levels, which is working as I want it to. I would like to add just one extra bit of functionality. As each level starts, I would like a movieclip to play and then disappear after a second or so. The movieclip will just say "level 1", "level 2" etc, without any interaction. Ideally it will appear as the level loads, and then fade out to disappear.

This is my first attempt at a game in AS3.I'm currently experiencing a problem which I'm sure is a result of my poor understanding of programming concepts.My problem is this, every time I call the function to rebuild my level, the game progressively slows down.I've tried to clear everything, but somehow something is still causing the slow down. How can i load this data from an external file which is easy to edit for the level-desiners ? (and what is best to use, xml, json,?) Is is not better to just use 1 datafile instead of 3 and what is the best way to do this?

I have two layers in my FLA both with empty movie clips as follows:In mc_Empty1, I attach a faded background movieclip as I wait for mc_Empty2 to load a SWF. Once the SWF is loaded into mc_Empty2, I want to remove the faded background movieclip from mc_Empty1. When I load the SWF from the main timeline, the onLoad() function works and removes the faded background from mc_Empty1. However, when I load the SWF from mc_target, the SWF loads, but the onLoad() function does not. Here's my AS2 code:

This is making me a little kooky today. I thought I could defined a library path in PREFERENCES > ACTIONSCRIPT > ACTIONSCRIPT 3.0 SETTINGS then that library would be available to all AS3 FLA files, but that doesn't seem to work for me. If I use the PUBLISH SETTINGS and define the library path everything is fine.
Is there something that I could have done to disable the application level class path functionality? I guess I'm trying avoid having to set the library path for every new FLA I'm making.

I'm doing a bigger aplication in flash (as2).Image, there is a main "home" flash with several menu buttons.Clicking these buttons, I load external swf into an empty container in this "home" flash.[code]clicking buttons in this second level, will load external movies into an empty container in this SECOND LEVEL swf.This works fine, but now, coming to the THIRD LEVEL (don't think there will be more in the future) problems come up, some scripts won't work.Now (I'm a as2-beginner) I think, loading external swf ALLWAYS into containers in the first "Home" flash should solve the problem.But I don't know, how to load an swf from the third level into a container in the first "home" level.In the "home" level, I have a "close" button, that will unload the container content.I need to go to a certain scene "content_2" in the home swf, too.

I have called main.swf into a container in index.swf.
myMCL.loadClip("main.swf","container"); is an action on my Index.fla timeline.
I have my navigation on index. (i wanted it to go on main, but the nature of the animation meant it had to go on index)
I need to call "home.swf" into "main.swf" from the navigation button in Index.swf.
When I had the navigation on "main.swf" this was my code to call "home.swf" into the page.

("home") is the label name where the preloader is for home.swf

I am working on a project wherein a long (40-50min) flv plays inside a flash interface. I have a set of buttons that I would like to use to skip to different parts of the video as it plays, this works fine on my local machine using cue points but of course online I cannot jump to sections that have not yet been buffered, I'd like to be able to do this if possible. I'm looking at a couple of options at the moment...1, Use a content delivery network that offers a flash media server, as I believe this will sidestep this issue, however this will cost money that isn't really available for this project.2, Split the long movie file up into chunks and have my navigation buttons load a new flv onClick.If I go for option 2 is there any way of keeping a cumulative progress bar running as if it was all one video.

I'm currently streaming a video with AS2 using netstream.I have already found out how to pause my video on certain cue points, however I do not know how to skip to certain cue points.Basically I have buttons, which will each skip to a certain part of the video.All my cue points are embedded in the FLV.To pause my video I have the following code:[code]Any help on how I can use the buttons to skip to say "SecondCue" and "ThirdCue"?

I'm making a flash company profile in the style of a website, except it won't be uploaded online.and i made each button skip to a frame that i already named
some of the buttons are skipping to the wrong frames for some reason,the ones that are not working properly have some pretty big picture files on them,could this be the reason or is it just an action script mistake?

I want something to slide off the screen when I click on it. I (think I) have it set so that when you click, the button itself disappears, and a movie clip of the object sliding away becomes visible and plays.

The problem is that the movie clip will either skip right to the end and stop if I have a "stop();" put in at the last frame, or it will skip right to the end on the first play, but then loop correctly after that if there's no "stop();".

I am deploying a jwplayer (url...) to a website and I am not 100% satisfied with the way the player behaves when you skip to a new position, you press the timeline at one spot, but it skips to a different location. (the elapsed time indicator)
It seems this is a problem with flash video in general? Or can this be solved by using for instance streaming video instead of progressive HTTP playback?

When you mouse over the button, I want to double the speed of the animation by skipping a frame every frame. And when your mouse leaves the button, I want the speed to go back to normal. I have a movie with content sync'd with audio. A user can also use a scroll bar to go to specific time of the whole movie. Sometimes I have interactions in the middle of the movie that the actionscript does not load until it reaches the frame. Because of the scroll bar, a user may scroll past the beginning frame of where an interaction starts. Then the script gets skipped and the interaction won't work.How can I do to allow user navigation while preventing a user from skipping the script?

im having a problem that seems to me that its skipping lines of action script
