I have a for loop that loads a variety of movie clips that I want to have function as buttons. From what I've read adding an event listener is the way to go but I'm not sure how in this case. I've searched online and found a few articles that come close to what I need but not quite. Can't I just tack on an event listener for a mouse click on these objects and have it run a function I have defined elsewhere?Also in said function what code would I need to use to reference the button that was just clicked, would this. work?

At the moment, my mock-up contains code that Alex Lexcuk has written that deals with the page flipping animation. I suspect that it might be interfering with the addEventListener code I have written. View 6 RepliesI am trying to add a simple "getURL" type of functionality to a movieclip so that when it is clicked on, the user is taken to a url. i have tried 3 or 4 different ways to do this that all work when i test the movie clip in flash. However, when i embed the swf in a webpage, the click function does not work.I created a function:

I decided to try to use setInterval for myanimation, which is just a mouse trail.However, I'm trying to get teh mouse trail to be a dynamic mask.In my previous swf this was achieved by using a holder mc with the animation inside and then using this as the mask. But this time I just canpt seem to hit on the right way to get it to work. The code I am using for the mouse trail is:

I have preloader code in my main FLA, and I load the corresponding preloader (a small file) externally. When I detect that the file is fully loaded, I need to add the listener to the content that I want to "preload".[code]If I use it this way, the loaderInfo listener does not work, but if I add the listener ouside of the handler function, it does.The problem is, I need it to work from within the complete handler, because obviously, the preloaded can show the % completed only after it's loaded...

In Flash Cs3 it acts exactly as i want, the ENTER_FRAME runs and the addObject places numerous sprites on the stage. In the window output i'll see the trace. But when i run this code in Eclipse which is set up to use the Flash Player as output i get the first trace from EDHV_ImageSlider but the traces inside addObject won't show up, the sprites however are generated perfect.
The difference between the eclipse setup and the cs3 setup is the fact that the cs3 setup has a *.fla which calls the *.as package.

when i play it in flasplayer go well...if i put the swf in a html page not respond to key event...
I have a button object that I need to scale to align with the variable width of an array of images.However, when I set the width in code, the button does not actually become that width. Tracing out the width gives me the correct value, but on screen.. it's off.
I've proved it to myself by scaling the same button object manually in the properties pane and visually comparing. Both of the buttons below have a width of 410.

I can not get my MOUSE_UP to stop the drag. The drag starts on MOUSE_DOWN but then the object sticks to the mouse.

When the flash loads, the slideshow automatically starts. Then when i cpress on any of the thumbnail, then the timer for slideshow is stopped and currentIndex is updated, then the timer for slideshow is started. When i click on thumbnail images, everything is working except on one thumbnail image.Thus an error is showing which is

so basically just a function to add drag and drop functionality to an asset, note that when you mouse_down on the asset it takes it from where-ever it is and moves it to a container that sits at the top level in front of everything else.
This however appears to 'disable' the mouse_up event, which is never called in this case. If i remove the re-parenting then the mouse_up is called fine.
I have a swf that is pretty complicated, you can interact with the page and go to different keyframes and it stops and/or starts depending on buttons, but I want to put it in a fla or something so I can put other swfs next to it and build it up and put several of them together as one.
I don't care about making it too complicated, I just want one interactive swf to go to the next compiled swf when that movie ends, but when I try importing it or loading it it just runs straight through without stopping or paying any attention to the scripting.

I have 3 buttons on my stage (this is a small part of a larger project), named _button1, _button2, _button3 declared in an array so I can dynamically assign listeners and use a substring of the instance name to determine which button was clicked for other functions.My problem is that trace(e.target.name); returns the value _button1 on ROLL_OVER and ROLL_OUT as expected. However when clicking the button it returns "instance9" instead of the actual instance name I gave it.Why is this happening and how do I make it return the correct name? Why the hell would my buttonClicked function return a different result from the buttonOver function where the target is the same button for each function?
Is it possible to call a mouse-up listener if the mouse is stationary? So, if the mouse of moving over an object, and the mouse stops, you can send a mouse_up. My reason is because I'm working on a touch panel screen and it seems to keep the mouse on a constant state of left click down so I can't release any objects that are being dragged.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to more between frames using the data returned from a node n_EventID in an xml, when the node returns "1408" I want to move to frame 1 but if it returns anything else I want to move to frame 2. The part where the code moves to frame 2 seems to work perfectly but I can't seem to move to frame 1 when "1408" is returned.

I'm having a problem, where random IE's are not able to display my .swf file. All the IE's are IE8 with the latest flash pluggins and all security's are set at Medium, however some IE's get just a grey box and other's get the full flash file. What's going on? It works fine in Safari and Firefox of course, but why so much difficulty with AS3 Flash9 in IE? here is a link to the site, and it's the big image changer at the bottom of the front page.

But my proublem is that I have a flash presentation.The defalt for moving the slide screens back and forth are left and right arrows.It works fine when tested or even the .swf fileBut then the left and right buttons don't respond when I go to fullscreen.
View 5 RepliesIs it common for AS3 apps to not work in IE? Is there a way to make them work? I have a movie clip in my library linked to a custom class Main and I have nothing on stage. Just one frame. Everything is built inside that movie clip. I add that movie clip to stage through a document class and everything works perfectly in Firefox and Chrome but when I open it in IE, it's just a blank page.

What if I want to dispatch MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP when un-clicking only some objects, not all of them? I mean, when I add eventListener that listens for MOUSE_UP, it's dispatched (thought with different targets) every time I un-click anywhere, if you understand what I mean. How can I "fix" it?
View 1 RepliesAs I started developing mobile apps for iOS/Android using Adobe AIR I encountered strange problem (or feature). If you create Sprite and make it draggable using startDrag/stopDrag inside MOUSE_DOWN/MOUSE_UP event handlers, everything works. But if you add another listener MOUSE_CLICK to the same object, it starts to fire together with MOUSE_UP. Logically this behavior is all right.
What I need is to prevent firing MOUSE_CLICK handler when user drags the Sprite (startDrag) and I need it to fire when user did not drag the Sprite. What I'm trying to create is a small thumbnail bar which is draggable and after clicking on concrete thumbnail its large version/image opens up. This is actually not possible as MOUSE_CLICK fires everytime user drags whole thumbnail bar so large image opens up everytime.
How do I write a single function that would handle all three events of a single button? I am finding myself with 3 listeners and 3 different functions!
View 9 Repliesthis is what i have on the maintimeline:[code]I have 4 moveiclips called: redhex, bluehex, greenhex, and yellowhex.what the above code should do is make a 15x15 grid of hexes (yes i wanted all 4 hex mc's overlapping each other at each space on the grid.).Before i added the lines to dupllicate the blue, green, and yellow hexes also... the redhex movieclip duplicated exactly as it should.But after adding the lines to duplicate the blue, green, and yellow hexes also, in the same locations... Nothing at all showed up when i tested the movie (not even the redhex's)
