ActionScript 3.0 :: Delete A Dynamic Property Of A Dynamic Object?

Sep 30, 2009

I am using a regular Flash object as a simple data container, and I want to remove a particular property of that object. Then that object gets passed on to a for..in loop. But even after using delete to remove the property, the key still shows up in the loop.

For example:

var obj:Object = { a: "a", b: "b", c: "c" }
delete obj['b'];
for ( var prop:String in obj ) {

[Code].....

So deleting the property seems to be the same as assigning its value to null.

Is there any way to immediately remove the property from the object altogether so that it is no longer looped over in a for..in loop?

It is not sufficient to check the property for a null value since a property with a null value is not the same as not having the property in the first place, and represents a different state. I don't want to set the property to null, I want to remove the property.

I made a game, in the game there is a zombie (movieclip), and when its life (life???) reaches zero, it should be destroyed. I tried "removeMovieClip(this)" and much more, but it didn't work, but also there were no errors.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Delete All MovieClips Inside A MovieClip?

Aug 24, 2010

I have created app where images are loaded from xml and displayed onscreen as elements, which can be dragged onto a different 'holder' MovieClip. On successful drop the 'holder' movie generates dynamic movieclip as 'mc' and adds a larger version of the droped image. so i can have multiple child of 'holder' everytime a element is dropped.

now i have created a button, on click of which all the elements should be removed. for which I am using the following code

while (mainFrame_mc.imgArea.holder.numChildren > 0){             mainFrame_mc.imgArea.holder.removeChildAt(0);            }

this code is removing the child clips as required but later when i again drop another element. nothing shows up. Unable to understand why is this happening. The holder movie clip is physically present on the stage where as only its child movie clips are added dynamically.

Flex :: Combobox Backspace Or Delete Key Does Not Delete Highlighted Text

Mar 26, 2010

I am implementing a flex auto-suggest combobox - as the user types in each character: Consider the string 'Stackoverflow' and user input = 'st'

1) the data provider is filtered to show all items starting with 'st'
2) text is set to auto-suggest string such that the un-typed part is highlighted.

So for instance, the combobox text may contain st'ackoverflow', where 'ackoverflow' is highlighted using setSelectedIndex()When I hit back-space or delete, and check the 'this.text' value, I expect that the last un-highlighted character ('t' in the above case) gets deleted and the data provider is filtered to show all items starting with 's'. However the text property contains 'st', as before

Actionscript 3 :: Add And Remove EventListeners With Dynamic Name And Dynamic Variables?

Jan 14, 2010

picture: [URL].. I am making a boardgame in flash Action Script 3 each position on the board is a buttons like this: button_1_1, button_1_2 etc. Whenever a character is selected you want to move it so the script has to add event listeners for positions around the selected unit

[Code]...

In the rest of the code I have:

function userClickedPosition(position_x:int, position_y:int) it selects or deselect a unit function selectUnit(position_x:int, position_y:int):it uses the listentoButton(1) function to add 8 listeners (the positions around the clicked unit)function deselectUnit(position_x:int, position_y:int): it uses the listentoButton(0) function to delete 8 listeners (the positions around the clicked unit)

My question: adding eventlisteners is no problem but removing them dont seem to work? What did I do wrong?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Access To Variables By A MovieClip In A MovieClip

Jul 15, 2010

I'm making a fighting game and so far all the controls are good, characters can walk, run attack etc. My problem: The character is a MovieClip, Guy, and is exported to a class Guy. In Guy.as I have a boolean "hitting" which is set to default "false". If the Guy object hitTests an enemy while "hitting" is true, the enemy will take tamage.

In the Guy MovieClip there are about 7 frames, each with its own animation. 3 of those frames are attacking animations in form of MovieClips, i.e, if we click them we get another set of frames. Say one of the attack MovieClips has 10 frames in it, frame 7 of 10 is where the punch actually lands, this is when I want the enemy to take damage, not before (while the character is still moving his hand forward). Seeing as this frame is inside a MovieClip which is inside another MovieClip(Guy), is there a way to access the property "hitting" with this inner frame?
