ActionScript 3.0 :: Creating Dynamic MovieClips With The Sequential Number In Their Name

May 29, 2011

After a click event I want to dynamically create 2 movieclips with the sequential number in their name, e.g. mc_001 & mv_001 so that I can 'link' them together later on. How can I create a movieclip with a dynamic name? I am trying to use this at the moment: Code: var movieclip["name"+dynamicNumber]:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); I can't use an array unless someone can tell me how to access it across multiple classes...

ActionScript 2.0 :: [F8] Creating A Dynamic Number Of Variables?

Jan 15, 2008

I have done some (like 2 hours worth) research and have come up short, so while I browse the forums for a bit more help Basically what I'm trying to do is create a number of variables, depending on how many items are in an xml document.For example, I am running a for(){} loop to pull all the data I need out, and I would like to store it in the format:photo1.filename = whatever; photo1.value2 = whatever;

and so on. All the object property names (filename, value2 in the example) would be the same (obviously the values would be different), but I need the number of objects (photo1 in the example) to depend on how many nodes are in the xml document.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Total Number Of MovieClips On Stage?

May 10, 2007

How can I find out the total number of MovieClips on stage at any one time?

I've just had to optimise a tile based scrolling game by ripping clips off and on the stage as it scrolls. I could have used gotoAndStop scrolling but I was hoping I could try clip ripping first (reorganising my entire library wouldn't keep me on schedule) - so far the overhead has been drastically reduced.

But I want to be double sure there aren't any MCs lurking (implementing this is producing rarely occuring bugs), how can I get the number of clips attached?

ActionScript 3.0 :: N Number Of MovieClips-plays Topmost Only

May 22, 2009

I have 4 TextFields in a BaseClass

Text1
Text2
Text3
Text4

Each textfield has its own subclass extending BaseClass (i.e. Text1.as)

Each of the text fields in its subclass has an addEventListener tied to it so that when clicked, it plays a movie clip.

When I trace, I can mouseOver each textfield and the output is correct (mousing over Text3 outputs "Text3" in the console)

Problem: It won't play the movie clips tied to Text1-Text3: it only plays the topmost (last added) clip which is mc4.

If I comment out the addChild(mc4) movie clip in Main() , Text4Field no longer receives events, but it plays movie clip 3 when Text3 is clicked.

mouseChildren won't work here.

If I've created a textfield, how can I then remove it after a certain amount of time? It doesn't make sense to me since the textfield only seems to exist as an instance and not an object I can refer to.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Random Number Every Three Seconds?

Oct 5, 2009

I have the below code used to create a random number every 3 seconds and then have the timeline go whatever numbered frame the random number comes to. It works. However when I trace the randNum, I see that it is generating more and more random numbers during the interval. For ex, first it generates one random number every 3 seconds... but then it starts generating more than one per every 3 seconds. how can this be? Isn't the function supposed to run once every 3 seconds?

setInterval(createRandom,3000);
function createRandom() {
minNum = 1;
maxNum = 3;
randNum = Math.ceil (Math.random () * (maxNum - minNum + 1)) + (minNum - 1);
trace (randNum);
_root.gotoAndPlay (randNum);
};

Up until this point in my project I've only had to add single objects. I'd do that like this:

Code:

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Array To Trace Back Number Of MC From Stage

Jul 18, 2008

I have created a set of MC's loaded from library via attachMovie in a for loop. Right now I have a set of MC's that are attached with the numbers 1-8. I would like to be able to select a MC and traces back its number. I know this can be achieved through an array. I know how to build arrays, but I do not know how to create an array what would trace back a number form a for loop.

Here is the code:
this.createEmptyMovieClip("navClip",this.getNextHighestDepth());
for (i=0; i<8; i++) {
currentThumb = navClip.attachMovie("numberBox", "clip"+i, i, {_x:(i*50)});
currentThumb.imageNum.text = i+1;
navClip._x = (Stage.width/2)-(navClip._width/2);
currentThumb.onRelease = function() {
trace(currentThumb);
};}
I need it to call back in the onRelease the number associated with that clip(array).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Creating & Removing Movieclips?

Dec 16, 2009

Alright, So i have a function which generates alot of the same MovieClip on the stage, however i need to be able to both Hitcheck this MovieClips and Remove them in other functions, so somehow ( what i have attempted here and isn't quite working yet :confused: ) is putting each MovieClip in an array slot, so if you needed to remove them it would be as simple as a For Loop to run through the Array.
Also, when i hittest them, optimally since they are all in an array, i could just reference them via MovieClip.Hittest (movieClipArray[i]) i being the instance to remove.

Background for the project, adding and removing colored MovieClips Which are all systematically distributed on the stage. When the player Pushes the # Keys color it would run the construct function creating the MovieClips on screen. After that if the player hit the same color key again, before generating a new layout it will remove the previous first.

Also a key is to be able to hittest the colors against other MovieClips on stage so it needs to be linkable. Right now im attempting that by containing all my generated colors in

ActionScript Code:
"ColorContainer"

Currently my color Remove Function has Children Being removing which aren't referenced to the Array, i realize this... But want to get the generation of the Array down before i start cutting away at it.

Here is the code i have so far: For some reason i keep getting:

ActionScript Code:
TypeError: Error #1007: Instantiation attempted on a non-constructor.
at ColorantConfusion_Current_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating TabIndex On Duplicated Movieclips

Apr 9, 2010

I have set up a Qwerty keyboard within a swf using duplicateMovieClip() - all works fine. If I have no tabbing whatsoever then I can use the tab key to randomly jump all over the keyboard.

But I would like it to tab in an order. Other buttons at the _root level are tabbing fine but these dynamically created ones are not doing a thing.

The keyboard buttons are created within a movieclip called mcContent which is sat at the _root level, anything within this mc is usually referenced by mcContent. or _level0.mcContent. (if it is being really fussy).

I have an instructions button - if this is NOT included in the tabIndex then the tabbing will work on the keyboard, erratically, but it at least goes there. As soon as I set _root.mcInstructionsBtn.tabIndex = 1; then nothing but the _root level buttons work

I have tried to add the tabIndex when creating the movieclips but this has not worked either. I have tried to set the tabIndex in a copy version where the keyboard buttons are created at the _root level and it functions exactly the same.
