I'm creating this simple strip crawl of logos (1920x95). It's a about 40 logos in one strip that I imported. I created a tween that scrolls the logos right to left lasting about 1 1/2 minutes @ 24fps. When I export the SWF file the scroll is not smooth and there is all types of small jerky movements.
View 2 RepliesI'm working on a standalone Flash application (written using Flex 3/ActionScript 3) that features a text crawl, like what you might see at the bottom of your TV when watching a cable news channel; it's a long narrow box that text moves across from right to left. I've implemented it by creating a Label element, populating it with text, and then moving it using a mx:Move object with a Linear.easeNone easing function. It works, but it has ample room for improvement. It looks a bit jerky, and tends to have a fair amount of "tearing" (the top and bottom halves of the text sometimes fall out of sync).
I tried throwing math at the problem to get the crawl's movement rate synced with the monitor's refresh rate, but that was a bust. I found out the hard way that the app's frame rate jumps around too much; the "optimized" crawl varied between looking silky smooth and like it had epilepsy.
Is there anything else folks would recommend I try to smooth this thing out? Is there some alternate design you'd recommend I try?
Edit: Some context: the crawl is part of a digital signage application (played from a standalone Flash projector -- no web browser) that does stuff elsewhere on the screen, including video playback and rendering text and images. It definitely gets choppier during video playback, but it's never as smooth as I'd like it to be.
Since I left some of the movieclips hidden on the stage and in the library, those category names are showing up in the google search.So basically, categories from site #1 are now showing up in google's search for site #2. Is there any way to speed this process up (google crawl).[code]...

View 10 RepliesI have a movieclip that I want to be resized when a button is clicked. I want the animation to be smooth as if it had weight though. I read the tutorial on this but I need something slightly different, I would rather it where I can just refer to a function that is set in another movieclip. That way I could easily refer to it again and just set the height, width, and if possible, x, and y.
And my second question, is how to keep the border of my movieclip that is going to be resized the same thickness. I want the inside to be resized but the sides to stay the same width but move to stay on the edge.
I have added 2 text3D textfields for each plane that gets rendered via xml.Everything works fine, yet as more planes get added via xml the carousel slows down considerably.If I remove the text3D fields the carousel rotates very smooth and at normal speed. Is this just a limitation of text3D in Papervision3D or is there a way to optimize this better? Yes, smooth is set to false and images have been optimized.

View 2 RepliesI have an issue with my Cintiq not drawing smoothly in Flash. I need to sketch incredibly fast and loose. Flash used to work just fine but now it suddenly began drawing really crummy. I posted some examples of flash as well as Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro, and ToonBoom Animate Pro which is another vector graphics tool. I thought the vector graphics may be the issue but that app seems to handle the drawing excellently (now if only it did the other things Flash can do). Here's some examples of how they're looking. It may be hard to tell in these already loose sketches but the performance drop is really a big difference in responsiveness between Flash vs the other apps here:[code]Does anyone know why my cintiq is causing flash to draw so poorly? View 16 RepliesAs I have a gradient background on my website where the swf is embedded, in order to avoid the white screen that appears initially while the swf is loading, I turned transparency on for the swf. In order to really get it transparent I found out that you not only have to enable it in on the html site, but also tick "Detect flash version"and chose "Transparent windowless" in the publish settings. I used the html document created when I published the swf and the transparency now works fine.
However, the films I have on my site are now playing back with a very "jerky" behaviour and not smooth at all. I tried compressing the film as much as possible, but it's still not working as before. The site in question is [URL] if you would like to see for yourself. I've tried it on both my laptop, which is even worse, and my fairly powerful dual core 64 bit stationary PC.
So I figured out how to make a zooming effect for my animation, but it isn't smooth. I have it set at 30 FPS. What can I do?

View 2 RepliesI just jumped from cs3 to cs5 and i'm curious about some behaviors of motion editor. I made a motion tween with some keyframes on x and y. I open the motion editor and try to convert those keys on x and y channels to Smooth points. Motion editor shows now nice curves on x & y but nothing changes on stage. The motion of my movie clip is not changed in anyway. Its like those keys are still Corner points. No smooth motion. Of course I can change the motion path straight from the stage or create a custom ease to smooth motion.

View 19 RepliesI am noticing a lot of stuttering on my Flash videos viewed over the internet, Win 7 64bit and IE 8, Opera & Chrome.[URL] I am a video producer who shoots, edits, encodes and manages a few websites. I am very familiar with bitrates and encoding.
The videos I am seeing stuttering on are created from HD content and were encoded in Adobe Media Encoder at a bitrate from 775kbps down to 400kbps. When I play these through my 6meg DSL connection there is a constant random stutter like the video is stuggling with a low buffer. This happens even after the download bar shows the entire video is downloaded.
So am I expecting too much from Flash video? Will it always be an "internet" experience and not smooth?When I double-click the .swf files in Windows Explorer they play just fine, very smooth. Maybe a SWF Publishing setting?The Flash player is the latest which was uninstalled and re-installed.

I created a movie clip which plays ok. But when it ends there is a slight jump, if you will, when it goes back to frame 1 to begin playing again. Does anyone know how to make the transition unnoticeable from the last frame of a movie clip to the first frame of a movie clip?
View 4 RepliesI have installed FMS 3.5 on three different machines with the same less-than-optimum result. Two of the servers were virtual on VMware ESX3 and the third is on dedicated hardware: Quad 2.33GHz CPU, 8GB RAM, Gigabit interface, Win 2003 Ent SP2 and all latest patches through 1/6/10.
The primary problem is when I connect three PCs to the default web page and start the Getty demo video, the delivery of the video is jerky. There are pauses - orange rotating circle - and the motion looks almost like stop-action animation.
I created a slideshow where the images fade out and in using a motion tween from 0% alpha to 100% alpha in 15 frames. The fading doesn't look right to me it is very jagged. Is there a better way to do this. My files are too big to upload even when I tried to limit them to 3 images.

The problem im having is the when the text animates on it tends to stutter and appear jerky whereas I need it to be very smooth.
Ive tried animating the text using basic frame tweening with easing and with various high frame rates.Ive tried various coding methods using tweening classes (both the inherit class within flash and imported 3rd party classes) which seem to improve the animation slightly but still with some random jerkiness.[code]...
I'm loading some external images and trying to get them to smooth, but for some reason it's not happening. i've been trying everything i can find on the internet over the past 10 hours or so, and nothing's worked.The code on my movieclip (first frame) is:

my images are very high-res, so i know it isn't a resolution issue. anyway, they look crappy when they're sized down too. also, i'm pretty sure smoothing is the issue, because i have a very similar image in the library (a detail from the same shot, and similar resolution, etc.), and it looks great when i allow smoothing in the bitmap properties panel.
i know about smoothing = true but are there any other ways to smooth a bitmap?
