Professional :: Regarding Loading A Number Into Fla?

Have not been here for year. Things have changed.I am strating a little research on a little project I am interested in doing.It seems like a totally easy task, and I am already finding a lot of info.I also hope I am posting in the right place... please direct me if I don't.Bottom line of my question:I need to load to flash a number from an external txt file that gets update every 20 seconds and show the change (in the swf). That's pretty much it.
I havnt played with actionscript in years, but since it seems as an easy task I though it won't hurt to ask for directions here while looking and searching.
I would like to know is there any limitations in flash textarea like the number of lines it can have or the number of bytes it can have. iam opening a text file using php in textarea, where all the contents of the files are not getting loaded in the textarea. If it is there then how to increase its size, is it same thing in flex?
i have a folder that include jpegs with numeric name start at 1 goes to n i want to count the number of them without loading them one by one and ( because there size is hight and it take time to load all of them )
I can load a variable into Flash from a .asp page fine. However, when I try and convert it to a number flash gets mad and displays NAN.I have seriously spent hours trying to figure this out!!!! I'm so frustrated because my actionscript skills are terrible!

However, when selecting a large number of images (1000+), the fileList isn't initialized yet when the SELECT event is dispatched. Is there a way to wait for the fileList to be initialized?
I'm loading data from an xml file. Anything loaded from it is a string. Later, I want to be able to do some maths, say: aBetterNumber = xmlLoadedVar + aNumber; aBetterNumber just turns out to be the two variables concatinated together.
I need a AS that will load n number of variables from a txt file, which will have string values assign to them, and then in fla, it will fade in - wait - fade out in a dynamic textbox all of them one by one, and at the end it will loop it. I know how to do certain parts of this code, but I am not really good with array's yet.
I'm using Flash CS3 Actionscript 2. I'm loading an external file (it used to be an XML file but now it is an aspx file). Anyway, my actionscript for loading the file looks like this: xmlFile = "flash/info.aspx?id=1" Which works great with the aspx file I've created. But I need the "id=1" to append a dynamic number instead of the "1".
I wonder if there is a possibility to load external files to flash, when I know only their source catalog.Normally I'd use xml file with names or write some php script, but is there some way to load those files only with actionscript?

I recently purchased a macbook pro from eBay which had Flash CS4 already installed on it, but which didn't come with the original documentation or CDs that would have had the serial number. The seller said he would send along the appropriate numbers when he tracked them down, but he never got back to me again. I'd like to upgrade to Flash CS5 now, so is there any way I can find the serial number through the software itself? I've seen similar threads to this one elsewhere in the forums and the most promising answers have involved people locating truncated numbers in the software and asking Adobe to decrypt them. Unfortunately, I can't even find these truncated numbers...
I'm using the TouchEvent listener rather than the TransformGestureEvent listener because the TransformGestureEvent listener's built in gestures (particularly zoom) seem to be extremely slow and poorly thought out. So I'm dealing with raw touch data and I need to find the number of current touchpoints. Is there a method that returns the number of touchpoints currently on the screen?

I'm trying to figure out Flash CS5 on my own, and this should be easy, but... All I want to do is validate that the text entered in a text field is a number when a button is clicked. It can be a positive, negative, or decimal, but no letters or symbols.

I'm trying to figure out how to tile a rectangle (the stage) with an arbitrary number of rectangles. Simple tiling where all the tiles are the same size and simply stacked in a grid.I'm doing this with a resizable layout and a number of tiles that is arbitrary and will change over time.
Given a more or less 4:3 or 16:9 monitor I would like a solution that tends toward minimizing the perimeter of the tile and being similar in aspect ratio to the screen. I realize that if I have a prime number of tiles that I won't be able to make a nice grid, but other than that it seems there should be some way to do this.Lets say I have 231 tiles I need to arrange. The factors are 1, 3, 7, 11, 21, 33, 77 and 231.If the screen is really, really wide 1 x 231. Wide but not not as crazy wide as before 3 x 77. And most likely 11 x 21 is what I would need.So is there an easy way to do this on the fly? Is there a pre-calculated way to make it easy?
So I have a movie containing some content that I would like to pre-load. I made the pre-loader and it works fine but it could be more friendly for the user. Because the movie is quite long in duration, I think its good enough if I only load say the first 35% of the movie and then let the remaining 65% download while the user is watching the first 35%. Is there a way that I can modify my pre-load script to do this to say something like: 'load content for frames 10 to 200, play from 10'.

im making a project to select a fuel tank capacity and want the default to be 0.0 gallons and have the user increase the number or decrease the number by clicking and up or down arrow button... If they hold the same button that function would ideally increment faster, perhaps by multiples of ten until it reached a max / min number.
how to get a movie clip to loop a specific number of times in Flash? I know how to stop a movie clip from looping by using the this.stop (); command by placing the command in a separate Action Script layer, in a keyframe, inside of the movie clip's timeline. This allows the movie clip to play through once and then stop. But I need for the movie clip to loop more than once, maybe 2 or 3 times, and then go back to the main timeline.
Also, is it possible to place a pause (I'm guessing, maybe by using a timer of some type?) between the loops, so that the movie will pause a couple of seconds before it loops again and then stop? Please note I do not need the movie clip to stop when there's an event like a rollover or anything. I just need it to play a couple of times, pause between plays and then stop and go back to the main timeline.
I've been working on building a flash website for my company and was finally getting somewhere when I encountered a problem I cannot solve. I have it setup so that when you click on an item on the first scene it plays the second scene which is where the customization of the item is to take place. The second scene is where I am encountering the problem. I have seven buttons on the left side of the stage that are on their own separate layer. Everything was working fine until I saved and quit. Now when I bring up the second scene the buttons are all grouped together and uneditable. Also the buttons are extremely small and when I compile the swf file and view the movie all I see is the label of the buttons not the actual buttons themselves. I have tried deleting the button layer completely and redo the layer but every time I add the button component it add the same tiny uneditable button. I am including the errors that I am getting in output when viewing the swf.

I'm making an interactive kind of game, and I want a number of scenes to change once the user has looked at each once.For example, they go into three different scenes. When they finish looking at them all, Flash records this, and then when they look back at each scene again, they've all changed.
