View 4 RepliesParent swf loads a Child Swf. Button on Child swf closes child swf and dispatches event to Parent Swf to listen for to remove the child swf from the stage. Here is the code on the Parent swf that does that:[code]function within the child swf is still going on... this function randomly calls different sounds and I can still hear those sounds!How can I stop this function?
View 1 RepliesA function within a child swf is continuing to go, even after I remove the child swf from the stage... this wouldn't really matter, except that there are sound elements called from within this function, and those sounds continue to play!

if i have a movie clip with an even listener attached to it, is the event listener being removed automatically when the movie clip is removed from the stage or should i always remove the event listeners manually?

Removing all the (mc1) movieclips works fine, but when i click on the butotn to call drawIt again, all previous mc1's are displayed again with the new ones

I have a movieclip that contains two frames, each frame contains a different set of buttons.
it seems that i cannot add the event listeners to buttons that are not in my current viewed frame.
so.. problem one: is there a way to add event listeners to all the elements in the movieclip even if the elements are in a different frame.
problem two: after I added an event listener to some elements in current frame and then I move forward to the next frame and go back to the same frame, all the event listeners are removed and i need to initialize them again. is there a way to resolve the issue without the need to re-initialize the event listeners ?
i'd like to control MovieClip timeline witch contain several DisplayObject (like Sprite, Button, ...) these DisplayObject have Motion (AnimatorFactory). How can i do seek frame-by-frame the MovieClip Timeline and use the currentFrame to control all Motion child.

I have a flash homepage using xml with different pages placed on different frames. I want to add an xml photogallery on frame 4 so that it only appears on that page on the homepage. The photogallery is made in another flash also using xml. When i try to load the gallery it either appears on all pages or on none at all. what code can i use to make the gallery load on fram 4 in my flash.
View 1 RepliesI have a child (an external swf) that I'm adding on frame 2 of my main timeline. It will load, but I have another issue. My timeline navigation is designed as such that the viewer can return to frame 1 after viewing frame 2. I don't want the child to be visible on frame 1 ever. Obviously, I can't simply use removeChild, because I haven't yet added it when frame 1 is reached and so I get a null object reference. I've also tried playing around with the visibility property of the child, but with no luck. I feel like I'm missing an obvious solution here. What should I do?

I know you can just remove/hide them, and generate/show them again.
But isn't there an easier way?
This is just a stripped down version of my problem that im using for troubleshooting purposes. I thought id try and make up a basic script to get the core of it working and then apply it to the file that im having this problem with later just to simplify things.So what im trying to do here is that ive got a MovieClip in my library called mc_brian that ive exported for action script with the class of Brian. The mc_brian movie clip has 2 frames, both with stop actions on them.So ive created my variable newBrian and loaded the Brian class into it, positioned it and added it to the stage via the addChild display object.Then im assigning newBrian an instance name and tracing the instance name, which of course returns "brian1":

My problem is, that I want the contact Form to be deleted everytime I change the frame means --> everytime I go to another subpage of the homepage.
So I would need a script to check for instances of the contact Form class on every subpage-frame and to delete them if present.
I have a character that I want to animate. Now each part of his body is a separate movieclip. What I want is that, for example, if you imagine the shoe MovieClip, I want to give it three frames - from the front, from the side, and bent.
So when I animate the character MovieClip, I would like it if I could keyframe the currentframe of the shoe MoveiClip, if that makes any sense. It's easy enough to do in ActionScript, but the problem with that is the change isn't visible until I test the movie, and when animating it's useful to see exactly what the character looks like at each frame. Is there any way of setting the current frame of child MovieClips when animating?

I am attempting to build a site using load movie commands. I have a navigation movie with 4 buttons, on the press of each button I uesd this script.

this loads an animation and plays into the news reader. on the press of a button to go back I have loaded a seperate back animation using this script

The problem I now have is I want to remove this clip at the end of the animation and return to the root navigation.
I've found the solutions for most of my many problems with as 3 but this one is really baffling The frame actions of child-movieclips of dynamically added movieclips are not firing! If I have movieclip, say "mc", which contains a child-movieclip "submc" which has a timeline animation in it with "stop();" on the last frame and I add "mc" on the stage via addChild() the stop action inside the sub movieclip will not work.
All the frame actions inside "mc" itself work. Everything works if I drag the movieclip onto the stage manually. Right now the only way I can see to stop a movieclip on its last frame is by using the ENTER_FRAME event, but that's awfully cumbersome.
I have a picture on the stage that has multiple items that have hotspots/links over them that should open a child swf on top of the background and show details about the items. then have a button in the child swf itself that removes the child from over the background so the user can click on another item etc.I found this code in someone's post and I am trying to modify it so that works for multiple swf files...it currently works for a single swf.I wan to pass the name of the button in front of the .swf in the URLRequest to have the same name as the instance name of the referring button. With a button in the loaded swf I need to unload the loaded swf (where the button is) and navigate to a specific frame label in the parent .swf. I've tried to do the following in the key frame where the swf get loaded into I've put the following:

I basically want to first load the swf called "gallery_wonderland.swf". Then in the "gallery_wonderland.swf" there's a button called "contact03_btn" which I want to unload "gallery_wonderland.swf" even though it's inside the swf and navigate to the frame label called "Contact" in the parent swf.
What can I do I've done similar before and it works, but when I do it know and I click the contact03_btn it comes with following error message:

The only thing that has me puzzled is the preview field. Basically i have a background which is a movie clip, it basically transforms from the loader to the background (over 70 frames).
is there a way to have the preview field for the root movie display a child movie at a frame other than frame 1? At the moment it looks like this: [URL]

It would help or positioning other items if i had the background displayed how it will actually be?
I wanted to create a portfolio in flash, so I designed the layout in photoshop, with different webpages in different groups. So groups i created: home, about, porfolio, contact, affiliates, topbar, menu.I use Creative Suite 3 or CS3I then imported the groups into flash as movieclips, using the import to stage function. here is the image of the main scene in the flash. I've got this interactive poem I've been working on for a class. I've basically finished each "episode" seperately. I made a parent document which essentially loads one of the ten child documents onto the respective key frame. Here's a sample of the code for the first key frame of the parent document:

Well Two things are messed up about it, well my "ChildTimeline2" variable will off and on assosciate itslef not with the main time line of a child document, but of a nested symbol inside said child document. Even worse, the "gotoAndStop();" command I will give sometimes applies to Parent document... yaay! but often it will apply to the child document. The end result being this horrible looping moment where you are stuck in one child document for all time.
I wish I could attach the documents but they exceed the 300KB. how I can get Actionscript to listen fro the last frame of the maintimeline of the child document, or tell flash to gotoandStop for the parent document

This MC is communicating with other MC's on this frame. It is for example placing MC hitspider at the same x as itself on EnterFrame.

But it still gives me an error. That it can't find the hitspider MC. Which is true cause it's not there. But since I removed the child why does it still look for this MC hitspider?
I want to unload a swf and have it removed from memory, I use 'unloadAndStop'. But how can I check if the swf / MC has really been removed?
