I'm trying to make a "weapons generator" for the game Crysis without the need of coding. to do this I'm using component buttons/textboxes/numericalsteppers. Does anyone know how to make it so when you press a button or change the number in a numericalstepper or enter something in a textbox to make it paste corrisponding text in a textbos to the left?

Firstly, I am generating an 'undefined' result occasionally. (Even with the example text from the tutorial). I have 5 quotes as per the example, but still get undefined as a result from time to time. Sometimes the text is greater than the text field so I want to be able to show a page up and page down button. However I do not want these displayed if the text does not exceed the field.
Currently the buttons are always displayed.
I understand how to get the text field info, I do not understand the "easy" bit of only loading the buttons if the text field size is exceeded.

I've done the following:
created the button background and added the TextField on it called txt and packed it all to Button called MyButton. I added an instance of MyButton called btn to a stage and wrote in the main class: trace(btn.txt.text); - everything was fine. But when I added states of the button (Up, Down, Over and Hit) the txt field of buttons became null.

View 5 RepliesWhenever I am trying to do, the button rollover work, and put the dynamic text on top of it. The area outside the text is reacting to the rollover, but when I rollover on the text, I lost the rollover effect of the button under.The only way I have found to work around this, is to create another mc, invisible, on top and covering the button and create a script to activate the button rollover effect under... but is it the only way?
I don't have to do all this with static text, but the font react bad with rollovers or some other effects.
Someone has created a map where there are little colored buttons over building locationsThe buttons were made so that when you hover your cursor over them, they will bring up a little chat bubble (like the ones you see in comics) with the appropriate street address text. What I cannot figure out is how to, after removing the cursor from over a button, make the text bubble stay put so that those who see the map can highlight then copy and paste the street address from it.

Well, I'll make 4 input text boxes, and a button in the middle. 1 text boxin the north, (power effect the body from the north) one on the south, one on the east and one on the west.(I've done that part).
Then, ill need it to subtract the north - south and east - west on(release), and display that on a dynamic box called Fx (east - west) and another called FY (north - south) Finally, I'll need it fethagorth the Fx and FY to give me the final force resultant. I'm trying to figure out how to generate an array whose elements are each arrays to make a quick loading database of sorts.the main array could essentially be something like "employees" while each employee would have demographic data like age, salary, gender, etc.In some cases the information on some employees would be greater than others, and options created by "push" would imply the number of elements within each employee array would be variable until generated.[code]But I get the feeling this type of array as it is currently described doesn't lend itself well to adding new elements in the way I've described.My goal is once an employee's information has been entered and saved, I can call up their info by array number like aEmployee[2], and if employee 2's name is Bob, then Bob's name would appear in the text field, along with all the other fields related to Bob's array, such as being male, 42 years old, and living in Witchita Kansas.Would I modify a multidimensional array, or do I want an array within an array, and is there a way to add "arrays" as elements?
View 8 RepliesEdit 04/04/11: It turns out that the UTF encoding was just hiding a bigger problem. I initially thought it was the UTF encoding as setting that seemed to solve the search problem, but it was more to do with how mongodb was serialising the search key in the background
I'm using Flash to create a small tool to generate db info for mongodb. It will generate something like:
db.save({"className":"mypackage.MyClass","name":"someName"});
And display that in a TextField so I can just copy and paste it directly into the db.
My problem comes with mongodb being unable to find that info later. After much debugging, the problem boiled down to the text not being entered in UTF-8 format. i.e., in order to make it work, I'd have to copy the line of text from Flash, paste it into something like Notepad++, set the encoding to UTF-8, then copy that text into the db.
is there a way to either specify that I want to generate the text as UTF-8 or copy as UTF-8 from the TextField to avoid having to have this extra step in my workflow.

adding the grid to a pdf with some other elements on there as well.text is not showing up in some cases. I've tested myself silly on the computers i own but there doesnt seem to be a problem.However, the person i made this for keeps saying text doesnt show up. I've seen the results of his instance of this tool and the keen, trained eye suggests that every row gets stretched out to the bottom (and beyond) of the page. A select all copy paste into plain text app suggests there is no text in the pdf (except for the text that IS showing up)
View 2 RepliesI want to generate a maximum of 5 childs in a clip called 'placeholder' using a button (placeCloud_1). the childs will 'float' to the top of the stage. when the y=0 the child must be removed (using the function checkPos() ) so i can add another child without exceding the number of 5 childs.
Everything works, except for the removeChild! i've tried removeChild(this) , this.removeChild(this), parent.this.removeChild(this), parent.this.removeChild(mc), placeholder.removeChild(this) etc... and nothing works. When using (this) it throws TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert global@2f6710d1 to flash.display.DisplayObject.
