I have a MovieClip, named "thing", that's in one position and in another position on the next frame. I added an eventlistener to "thing" to advance frames. Very simple, everything works fine.I then add "thing.alpha = 0.5" in the button's event listener. Now when I publish the file, thing fades but doesn't move.

p.s. For reference, here's the entirety of my AS3 on the first frame:

i am creating a game now this is complex but i have been told by my fellow actioncript co worker that its doable, What it is i have a game "Reaction Tester" and It is inside a car going along the road so its psudeo 3d and i have the "walls" and road sorted now i want a movie clip in the road to throw out random objects From a Movie clip, now i will call them from frame names, say..

frame 1-10 is a tween with a box coming down and then frame 11-20 is a cat and frame 21-30 is a hole in the road Etc i want it to call a random frame to frame, to play

I have a few language buttons on frame 1 (englishbtn, spanishbtn) in a long timeline with a bunch of keyframes, buttons and movieclips. What I don't know how to do is set up the buttons so that, when pressed, tells a movieclip on a keyframe later in the timeline, to be on a specific frame label (english, spanish).

In other words, when the game gets to the later keyframe with text movieclip, I want the movieclip on that frame to be at a specific frame in the clip (english, spanish), because the button was pressed on frame 1. Some of the text is deep in movieclips on various frames. So those movieclips need to be on the spanish frame, if spanish button on frame1 was pressed.

I have created a motion tween to fade in a symbol on the stage. I have set a there is a diamond keyframe marker at the point where the alpha of the symbol goes to 100%. I want to be able to drag that marker to a later point on the motion tween span (not sure if I have my terminology right here) but I find that I cannot -- I have to delete the keyframe and recreate it at the point where I want it.

I have an array in a keyframe - but i want to have it in a textfile instead ( so that others can edit it for themselves. But i am having difficulty doing it. At the moment I have this on a button

What I'd like to know is how to change the above array so that it would work in a text file (which would be easier for others to edit you see). I think i could divide the letters by : and then use some code to break the array apart at ':'. But I am not really sure. Can anyone give me some pointers? Also - if u have time to shuffle the array so letters appear in different boxes each time?

excuse the lazy question but I'm tired of google I have been trying to learn about repositioning movieclips on the click of a button. So basically, the movie clip will move to a location on the screen in accordance to the browser size and relevant to the button pressed.

I have seen a few tutorials that move an object say, 100 pixels. But what I want is for it to move into the top left, or top right, or bottom middle of the screen regardless of the browser size.

In my attached fla, you'll see a movieclip with a panel that rolls out upon rollover (or on click, whatever I can get to work) to reveal a panel containing buttons. However- I cannot get the buttons in this movieclip to work. I'd also like to put a text scrollbar on a copy of this movieclip (no luck so far for the same issue), but perhaps resolving the button issue will also clear the way for a working scroller

There is a movie clip "card" created dynamically through the code. I have a class, and I instanced it and add it to the stage. I need to move the movie clip on the button click, so I created a motion tween and export it to the code. Then I wrote a function and asign it to the button through the event listener. But the movie clip doesn't move. The event fires, but nothing happens.

I have a script that plays a sound on that keyframe. You see, the movie loops. So it keeps hitting that keyframe and the sound keeps playing over and over again. How do I stop this? what kind of script? I want the sound to still loop when it's over, but I dont want it to play again on that keyframe. Only when it's over.

Can a button play a movieclip if it lives within another movieclip? Let me explain: Buttons in a map key ran route animations on the map. Code for button (accessed by selecting button and F9) ..reads : on (release) { gotoAndPlay("BusRoute_375");}

All layers and consequently all route movieClips that relate to the map as well as the stop codes for the individual route animations now reside within that MovieClip which sits on a new layer above the map key layer. However, the key buttons no longer run the route animations. What should be done so that when clicked they still play the route MovieClips. Its like the button code cant see the layers it once refered to, now that they are in a movieclip.

I have a movie clip that is about 30 frames long. I've placed an instance of it on the main timeline and it follows a motion path. My motion path ends after about 20 frames. At this time, I've inserted a keyframe which is preventing my movie clip from playing the remaining 10 frames.
 
I tried adding an ActionScript layer where the last keyframe is and it reads:
instance.gotoAndPlay (20)
 
Doesn't seem to work. Just a note that this is around frame 292 of the main timeline. Also note, a new keyframe begins on another layer with a different movie clip.

I have a movieclip called 'mcBox'. and I have a button called 'playBtn'all that I want to happen is when you click the button the movieClip plays, so simple, but really finding it hard to get to work. This is what I have

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Plays One Keyframe Then Switches To 2nd Keyframe When Date Changes?

I have a simple flash that has 2 layers 2 images. one image is on the first frame and the other image is on the second keyframe. Actionscript starts on 1st keyframe.  What I have it doing is loading frame one stop() reads the actionscript checks the date if the date is met it goes and stops on frame 2 and plays other image:
 
Everytime the flash refreshes it plays frame one then jumps to frame 2 if the date is met.  How do I avoid playing frame one if the date is met what it's doing is playing the first image before the date change and a split second after it plays frame 2.  (you see a hiccup)
 
i need the flash to "preload, check the actionscript before it loads if the date is met automataclly go to frame 2 avoiding frame one all together.

actionscript used on frame one:

stop();
var year:Number = 2012;
var month:Number = 3;
var day:Number = 22;

so i know how to make a movieclip play from a button but how do you do it just by inserting an action at a keyframe? i have a keyframe at frame 5 with the action

squaresRedMovieclip.gotoAndPlay(2);

but it doesn't work. I want the movieclip 'squaresRedMovieclip' to start playing at frame 2. but it doesn't work. am i meant to add some extra code that i'm not aware of?

I have a simple actionscript 3 problem I cant solve. Basically I have a movieclip, with inside it an imported FLV on the timeline. I placed the Movieclip on the stage with an instance name "animation" and next to it a button with an instance name of "btn_1", that will activate the movieclip to start playing when you hover over it. I figured that it should be something like this.

i already create one main movieiclip(index_mc),including menu button to link multiple movieclip, which is containt: aboutus_mc, story_mc and gallery_mc. all button in index_mc run perfectly.

In gallery_mc i've made thumbnail mc (btnthumb1_mc, btnthumb2_mc,btnthumb3) which inside already has button(btn1,btn2,btn3) to show large images in movieclip (largeimages_mc) which is large images contain several jpeg

I am trying to play a nested movieclip by clicking on a button. I have an instance name for the nested moviclip, and this is the code I atatched to the button:

_root.conference.gotoAndStop(35);
}

Nothing happens when I click the button with that code. However, if I take out the instance name, the button will play the frame specified:

on (release) {
_root.gotoAndStop(220);
}

i'm making a game and to score some extra performance im rendering every frame of every entity into an array of bitmapdata's the first time the frame is seen, and it works well, but its wasting alot of memory because we have alot of animations, and most of them are double framed at least, so more than half of the bitmaps could be ignored if there was a way to determine if a frame is a keyframe or not

I have a big Flash project that I want to update with a sort of "Breaking news"-pop up.

I load my pop-up in a movieclip "Target_MC" simply by adding the action script:

loadMovie("extra.swf", Target_MC);

In my "extra.swf"-file I have a close-button with the action script:

on (release) {
unloadMovie(_root.Target_MC);

This works out fine. The thing is that the keyframe where I have the first action script is a place you come back to many times. ANd every time this extra.swf-file pops up... anyoing!

Is there a way to say that the movieclip "extra.swf" should just load once? or not repeat? or disapear the second time?

Flash 8 :: Simple Button Navigation - Play / Pause MovieClip

I have a movieclip within the main clip called "playPause" which starts with the Pause button shown. When clicked the movie clip moves to show the play button and pauses the current parent movie with the AS "_parent.stop();" when the play button is then pressed the movie plays via "_parent.play();" and reverts back to showing the pause button.

Simple so far. What is getting me is if I add a movie clip within the parent (say some scrolling object) I cannot get the added clip to pause. For example say the "parent" movie clip the playPause moveclip is within is called "intro" and the moving object is called "introObject" which is embedded in a frame along with "playPause"

What I have setup for the playPause buttons is for pausing
_root.introObject.stop();
and playing
_root.introObject.play();
